It was our first time in the Maldives and we were a bit confused while picking a resort. After reading multiple reviews for 50+ resorts and almost losing our sanity in that process, we finally picked OBLU by Atmosphere for a few key reasons: 1. It fits in our budget (a tad bit higher) 2. They had great reviews for food 3. Their house reef had great reviews Guess what? They exceeded our expectations. Transfer to/from the resort: We opted to stay in Male on the day of arrival so that we could maximize our time in the resort. The resort took care of arranging a speedboat transfer from the airport to the island. There was a bit of delay as we had to wait for another couple who were landing from London but that's something you need to adjust to. It took about an hour to reach the island and it was quite a comfortable ride. We requested for a late checkout and luckily for us, they could accommodate our request. This made me extremely happy, and thanks to the lovely staff for taking care of this. The sea was a bit rough on the ride back, so be prepared for it. Hospitality: The welcome was grand and done very stylishly in local Maldivian style. At the first look of the resort, I wondered if this is paradise? Oh yes, it was! The hospitality was warm right from the time they picked us up. They arranged for a birthday cake for the husband which I requested and delivered to my room at midnight. The resort staff decorated our villa with a happy birthday note for him with leaves and flowers - it was very sweet. The restaurant staff was so courteous as well. Anybody we spoke to was very warm and welcoming. There was nothing to complain about. Stay: We split our stay in a beach villa as well as a water villa. Everything was bright and vibrant and we sprung into vacation mode as soon as we were in the villa. The beach villa was pretty spacious and had a lovely ambience. It opened up to pristine blue waters and had an open-air bathroom. The rooms were spick and span and so was the resort. We were provided with everything that we would want inside the resort - an umbrella, waterproof beach bag to carry around stuff, slippers to walk on the sand, snorkelling equipment and daybeds to laze around the beach. The beach line is not vast, so that was something we missed. Also, the currents were strong where our villa was so we couldn't get into the water. The water villa was wonderful too, except the lagoon was a bit rocky. This is not the typical ocean villa one would expect in the Maldives, something you need to watch out before you book. We didn't climb down into the sea from our lagoon because the current at that place was a bit strong. But the villa had a private swimming pool and the view from there was breathtaking. Why you must definitely choose to stay in a water villa when in the Maldives? 1. It is a different experience in itself 2. You can see lovely aquatic life right from the villa, without even stepping into the water - we saw baby sharks, bright coloured needlefish and even a turtle! 3. Sip wine while you and your partner enjoy a lovely sunset House reef: My first snorkelling experience was here, so I wouldn't have a yardstick to compare but I saw such lovely fish - in all striking colours such as yellow, blue, green. I spotted starfish, needlefish, Dory, bright yellow fish, white and black fish and so many more varieties. The corals were beautiful and full of life! My husband and I encountered a blacktip reef shark on our last snorkel there - oh my what an experience! The only thing we missed (due to the season) was turtles. No manta rays too. We also went on a scuba dive too (paid) but I felt the snorkelling was way better than the scuba dive. FOOD: We are from India but chose a resort that wouldn't serve us mainly Indian food. My husband and I are big foodies and are never hesitant to be experimental. We loved the spread of the food they had. We chose this resort because it was an all-inclusive package - unlimited food and drinks. The house wine was great and we had a pretty good time, drinking wine by the poolside, by the beachside and in the restaurant (hahaha, we were an intoxicated couple). They had good vegan options as well but don't be afraid to try new cuisines, especially with seafood. We never got bored with the food in our 5-day stay but the downside was we were well fed and put on a couple of kilos (or pounds) of weight. We also had some Indian food towards the end of the trip and that comforted us. Hat tip to chef Ajay for notifying us about that. Activities: In our 5-day stay, we kept ourselves pretty much occupied. We did quite a bit of snorkelling. We went on a PADI Certified Scuba dive (it is pretty expensive!!!). We also went on a Dolphin Cruise (that was also quite expensive but it was a birthday gift to the husband) and spotted pilot whale dolphins on our ride, which was a first for the crew too. My husband tried out stand-up paddleboard and had great fun, but watch out if you have back pain don't try this. We went on a date to 'JUST GRILL', an ala carte fine dining restaurant and it was pretty good. There are lots of other things to try out as well - a visit to a local island, sunset fishing, night snorkelling etc. You can also simply choose to relax at the island on your day bed reading a book. There is no such thing as too many days on this island. Hope this review is helpful and if you visit this place, have fun! Read less

Where do I begin? So much to say about this island of paradise, we absolutely love it. This was our second visit to this amazing place, We were exceptionally lucky and honoured by a upgrade to the beautiful Lagoon villas. The room was spacious, very comfortable and the views to melt any heart. I loved watching the array of marine life from our patio/pool/steps into the ocean, Especially the sharks, I've grown to love the black tip reef sharks and the nurse sharks. The food is out of this world, great choice for all culinary tastes. Marine life is awesome, never thought you would see me enjoying swimming with sharks, but I do, the turtles, rays, Nemos, every coloured parrot fish you can imagine, the Titan Trigger fish are stunning, way to many to mention, all beautiful, we even heard dolphins clicking and doing echo calls while snorkeling, I cried it was amazing, yes we saw enty of dolphins also, but to hear them communicating with each other actually through the ocean was heart stopping (WOW). The island is so well maintained by the very hard working genuinely friendly staff. Nothing is to much trouble, day or night. I really cannot fault a single thing on this island or the staff. Here are a few that literally went above and beyond their duties to make our stay simply perfect. Thank you so much for not only making our holiday perfect but for making us feel like your family, (love you guys) Sajani Fernando in reservation who assisted us right from our first visit till the last minute of our second visit, you are superb in every way and Atmosphere are blessed to have you on their team. Deleepa Sandakelum in reception, who could not of done anymore for us if he tried, from coming to collect us in the buggy (partner has bad back) making sure on a daily bases we are ok to escorting us back to our room on a very late night (not tipsy, honest 😉) and the delicious a la carte meal at Just Grill. Once again Atmosphere are sure blessed to have you on their team. Ali the life guard, never misses anything going on in the water, thank you for helping Mr Clive and many others. You are a true asset to Atmosphere. Then of course huge thank you to Deepak and head chef and whole team in catering, esp Shemal for the delicious desserts you made for me. Spa team. Mavis, Wahyuni and Manju, best spa treatment ever 🙏. Spa is a must everyone. Binod best breakfast omelette maker in the world (plenty of garlic😁) Ajay for having a great team and being such a considerate professional manager to all the team and great with customers too. Sorry this is very long, but credit must be giving where credit is due. If you are thinking of the Maldives this Island and its team are the One. You will not be disappointed. But I will warn you, You will lose a piece of your heart to it. Don't just look.. BOOK IT! Sorry if I missed your name, you all are amazing.. Ms Magz and Mr Clive Read less

We visited for 2 weeks from the 15th March (or as its now known, COVID time). Firstly the resort dealt with this very well, having hand wash on the boat ride, medical check on arrival and then every morning before you entered the buffet and on the departure giving faces masks and packed lunch to make up for the possibility of a lack of food on the plane home. By the start of our second week at the resort it felt almost empty, with only a handful of people around so in some ways it was nice to have what felt like almost an exclusive island to ourselves! The island itself is kept very clean and tidy all day by the staff, the main path up the island is kept clear so people can walk around without any footwear all day if they choose. The rooms were probably the best maintained and cleaned of any holiday I have been on. We stayed in a deluxe beach villa and it was amazing, the photos on the web site do not lie. The rooms had UK plugs so no need for lots of adapters and the safe was large enough to get all my camera equipment in. The fridge contained plenty of fresh water for each day and some other drinks. We used the pools a few times, they were very nice, but we could not help spend most of our time in the sea as the snorkelling is the highlight of the trip to this island. Every day we would go out multiple times for hours snorkelling along the drop off, I ended up with hours of footage of the fish, rays, sharks, turtles and other creatures. The current can be strong but it generally only pushing you along the reef so we felt safe, plus each room has life vests provided so I did use that when snorkelling, and the life guard has a jet ski so he will come and collect you If you look like you are having trouble. We ate at the buffet every day and the food quality was excellent, there was a nice variety of food and despite me being a fussy eater I found something to eat every meal time. If I had to pick a negative thing, I could only think of one and that would be the beach sunbeds were very solid so not the most comfortable for a long lay down on the beach, but then I suppose it stops them getting blown away in high winds. It was a truly amazing holiday and we hope to return one day, I recommend anyone visiting the Maldives and wants to go snorkelling to pick this resort. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and I feel very bad that at the moment the Maldives is closed to tourists due to the global pandemic and that all the staff rely on the tourism for their livelihood, I hope things improve soon and it’s safe to return to such a beautiful place.
