Sands Suites Resort & Spa

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

Virgin rating

The hotel

Nestled on the beautiful beach of Flic en Flac and surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens, this relaxed resort has a welcoming Mauritian atmosphere. The outlook across the lagoon and the bay of Tamarin, with Le Morne Mountain in the distance, is impressive. Being on the west coast of Mauritius, you'll also be spoilt by amazing sunsets. The beach here is bounded by two reefs, an inner one that gives the hotel's swimming beach privacy and an outer reef where there’s a selection of complimentary water sports on offer. Enjoy the translucent, calm lagoon and keep a watch from the terrace for the dolphins that come into the bay. When it comes to dining, there's the main Tamarind Terrace restaurant, the intimate Pink Peppercorn on the beach terrace, and Spices, with its refined indoor dining room or more casual outdoor terrace. It's clear to see why this resort has a high volume of repeat guests.

Many thanks to Selven, who was there every time and always with a big smile James, who likes my clutch about the colours and had lovely laughing Ruddy, who literally took care of everything even cleaning my sunglasses on the beach Jonathan for the amazing water gymnastic and who was singing only for us "what a wonderful world" with the guitar Reeteesh who was there to help before we even thought of asking him for something and for all the little talks Jean, who says "Hello Mrs" with a big a smile every evening on the buffet Nalindee who makes the best scrambled eggs in the morning You all made our stay so amazing! Thank you! We hope we see you all at our next stay. Luisa Read less

This hotel was a wonderful place to stay if you want to experience top notch hospitality with fantastic rooms overlooking a sheltered bay and Le morne mountain The superior rooms were large with balconies where you could sit and listen to the numerous birds and hear the waves lap onto the Sandy beach This hotel has 2 stone reefs which protect the bay from wild seas. You will need beach shoes in the water as there are sharp fragments of dead coral and sea urchins lurking . Sadly it was not possible to snorkel off the hotel beach as any slight winds churn up the water resulting in no visibility . The sea clears further behind the inner reef but sea life was minimal on the days we swam out . There are lots of other water sports you can do such as SUP and kayaking . The infinity pool is a fantastic addition being so close to the beach where you can enjoy the view of the waves and mountains whilst floating in the calm water The food was very good each night and I would recommend booking a special dinner with a private table on the beach - we had the lobster extravaganza which was expensive but delicious and perfect for a birthday celebration . The breakfast choices are plentiful and cater for every preference - hot or cold - healthy or a holiday treat ! The only part we were a little disappointed by was how quiet the hotel was after dinner considering the majority of guests don’t go elsewhere . We had planned to go to some flic en flac bars on some evenings but it is quite run down and it’s too far to walk by road or along the beach . We did visit the Sofitel hotel beachside bar for some amazing cocktails at sunset by walking along the beach for ten mins but you wouldn’t want to do this later in the evening as it’s very dark. There was some light entertainment at the Sands laid on with a DJ or live singer but it was very pared back and lacked energy or atmosphere . The only evening which was outstanding was the Monday night with the traditional dancers and violin music accompanying current popular tunes . Hopefully this will change as we did speak to the entertainments manager regarding this feedback and the music did improve towards the end of our stay One notable daily event was the morning aqua aerobics - the playlist was up to date and high energy which encouraged lots of guests to participate and work off their big breakfasts in the infinity pool In summary I would highly recommend if you want a quiet high end mid size hotel with a fantastic beachside location , great food/drinks and rooms Read less

Stepping into this hotel was like entering a different world. Relaxing, and peaceful in the most beautiful setting. The rooms are well designed, more spacious than most hotels and very clean with lots of storage. The bed was big and very comfortable. The housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay. We had a first floor room with a balcony and good view of the gardens and the beach/sea. The staff are a credit to the hotel and a big part of the whole experience ,always polite and helpful and always looking smartly dressed. The service was excellent wherever you went. We ate in the Pink peppercorn, Dolphin bar and the main Restaurant. Breakfast was particularly good with a big choice, including plenty of fresh fruit, waffles, pancakes, cooked breakfast, breads. My husband celebrated his birthday while we were there and he was made to feel special with several lovely surprises including a cake and a card signed by the staff. Returning to our room in the evening we found the bed had been beautifully decorated. Thanks to Sheila in housekeeping and all staff involved for arranging these surprises. There’s a great water sports centre on the beach. The centre had its own glass bottomed boat so we went out on several snorkelling trips. Some days you can see lots of fish when snorkelling close to the beach even in the shallow reef. We loved the gym too and the lovely little air conditioned library/snooker room We would not hesitate to go back to this very special resort, we just loved everything. Read less

We stayed at Sands for one week and switched hotels (as planned and pre booked) for the second week. What should I say? After one night we cancelled on our reservation and drove back to Sands without having any booking and are now able to enjoy another week at this outstanding hotel which already feels like home. Thanks for making this possible, Sands-Team! I personally never experienced such an amazing service. This is definitely worth more than 5 stars! The location is absolutely superb, the beach is great and you don’t need to stress about any ‘towel reservations’ to get your sunbed secured. In addition to that you are able to enjoy many water sports activities such as waterski, snorkelling, stand up paddle boarding etc. (for free) at the boat house right at the beach. Not to forget Jonathan who will make sure that you join his water gym sessions at 11am to deserve your drinks and food afterwards ;-) Food is also great and every evening you will have a theme for dinner and enjoy great food with a large variety as well as high quality. All in all I can highly recommend to spend your vacation here if you are planing to come to Mauritius. You won’t regret. Promise :) Read less

We travelled to Mauritius as a couple to this paradisiacal hotel. The location is unique with a view of the sea and the mountains of Mauritius. Le Morne can be seen in the distance. Simply marvellous. The weather was perfect during our stay in April! The service is exceptionally good! Without being intrusive, every wish is fulfilled so that you will certainly never forget your days as a guest. Special thanks to Selven, who helped me with planning the birthday surprise for my wife and kept an eye on us the whole time to enjoy the hotel in every facet. Furthermore, I want to mention Jennifer, Farhaan, Soudesh and of course Krishna! Thank you very much for the great time until the last minute of our stay! If you like sports, than you definitely need to get in touch with Jonathan! He will be your best pal with keeping you motivated! His aqua gym is most fun! Do you have a wish at the pool or the beach? Ruddy will get you covered and reads every wish from your lips! The food in the hotel could be a little more varied. The quality of the food is good. You will definitely find something for yourself and be able to eat your fill. The drinks are high quality, varied and extremely tasty! Great wines from France, South Africa, New Zealand... are on offer! Great! The rooms are spacious and very cosy and stylishly furnished and therefore very cosy. Wi-Fi is very weak in the rooms (at least in ours), but you don't spend much time there anyway as there are lots of other places in the hotel to spend time. The hotel is very clean and well-kept! As there are so many further staff, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you very much for the great time! Read less
