Six Senses Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand

The hotel

When you arrive at the Six Senses Samui the view is at once exhilarating and strangely familiar. The sweeping vista of palm-clustered islands and shimmering seas brings to mind all the fantasies we have of the Orient's beaches. The resort is made up of a stunning collection of bamboo-clad villas looking out over the Gulf of Thailand. At Six Senses there are only villas, most with a private swimming pool with polished wooden floor interiors. Following the renovation, all villas are fully enclosed and air-conditioned so there are no "open-air spaces" as such and the bathroom and bedroom have a sliding door that separates them. The restaurants and bars are open pavilions, deriving their aesthetic from the communal longhouses of traditional river communities. The view, the architecture, the style and even the temperature intentionally immerse the guest in the location. This is back to nature – without a hint of roughing it. Six Senses Samui gives you everything, including a comprehensive spa that offers every conceivable treatment in Asia.

My partner and I had a fantastic stay at Six senses with two children aged 5 and 7. We had two excellent pool villa’s which were extremely comfortable and relaxing. The service at the hotel is exemplary and the team do a remarkable job in providing a thoroughly relaxing and enchanting stay. Gary, the GM, greeted us each day and took real care in listening to his guests need. Summer, the GEM assigned to look after us was extremely helpful in providing us with a ‘stress free’ stay. As well as the small details, she arranged for the children to collect fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast and organized reservations and other needs at the restaurants. The hotel’s commitment to sustainability should rightly be applaud and an example for other hotels to follow. The whole setting of the hotel and the use of natural materials for construction makes one feel connected to the natural world in a way that other hotels would struggle to match. Facilities are outstanding, both pools are well located to provide stunning views and the children enjoy the sea kayaking and pizza making by the beach. We had a romantic diner at the private table at the ‘Dining on the rocks’ with the chef and Khun Bank providing excellent cuisine and service (as well as being our personal photographer). Sidney and I are very much looking forward to visiting again soon. Read less

We arrived on the first night that the resort had just reopened and were told that we were the second guests there. A private hotel limo and driver greeted warmly from the step we reached the airport, and we were welcomed with refreshing drinks. The hotel followed very strict policies aligning with the COVID-19 preventions, measuring our temperatures, all staffs wearing masks, hand sanitizer and social distancing implied everywhere. Our GEM, Khun Nam was extremely kind and helpful, making sure that we receive the best treatment possible. Here, every member of staffs treats the guests much beyond our expectations and we can clearly say that it has one of the best hospitality we have ever received. We had booked a pool villa but got an amazing deal to upgrade to a sea view villa. Our room was a great home to us for 7 nights with a spacious, bright and airy feel that takes in a great view of the ocean especially during the sunset. Everything about the villa was great, though there is quite a lot of mosquitoes in the resort but it is understandable with the conditions of a tropical island. One suggestion would be for the hotel to add a ceiling fan to the terrace space next the pool as that would make sitting outdoors at night time much more enjoyable. The food at the hotel was spectacular, every meal we had was very fresh, heathy and delicious with just the right amount of everything. We especially enjoyed the newly launched Dining on the Rocks 6 course tasting menu and the meal Chef Mauricio had made. It was a very innovative experience, especially for the local ingredients he has incorporated in the dishes and making them turn out extraordinary. We really liked the caramelized banana dessert at the end of the course and it was unbelievable that such a simple dish could be so good. On our last night, the chef prepared us a special complimentary dish of sun-dried watermelon and cheese. It was unlike anything we have tried before and proved to be a savory yet sweet way to end the night. Our waiter, Khun Bank, took care of my family very well, offering us great advice of the right menu including portions and meal pairing. He also made sure that our food along with others got served properly, even though there was a bit of delay sometimes. He also gave us loads of tips and stories about places to go in Samui and was very knowledgeable about everything. We had a great chance of taking the Sustainable Walk tour on Farm on the Hill with Khun Gary. He was very kind to tell us of the hotel’s efforts in becoming more environmentally friendly and had also told us of lots of great ideas that the hotel has been using. He and Khun Peter would always check up on the guests during breakfast and make sure that everything would be going well and listened to guests’ feedbacks to improve on. Overall, we had a memorable stay at Six Senses Samui with such great service. Our lives have now been spoiled and we would definitely be coming back soon! Read less

Excellent service, beautiful pool villa, great amenities. The only disappointment was the Dining on the rocks restaurant: overpriced for unimpressive food and very slow service. The other restaurant, Dining on the hill was much better.

Very tropical location, a lot of trendy restaurants. Excellent food although a bit pricey. There’s a nice pool and outdoor shower. Incredible service. The staff there couldn't have done more to help us with insect bites.

We liked the complimentary small drink, crackers and dips while waiting for our lunches to arrive plus the hot hand towel. Their special “reverse osmosis” water did taste good. A very pleasant couple of hours overlooking the bay and watching the planes come into land. We has a short tour of the resort from Moon, one of the butlers, which gave us a good idea about the rooms and the small beach with snack bar. The bill came to 1,965 Baht with the usual 7% tax and 10% service charge. Read less
