We landed on our feet here. We were put into Room 217 and had the best view of the main pool, the bar and the beach. The room had a balcony (with fridge), and the bedroom itself was large with a comfortable king size bed. Lots of pillows of different softness too - always good. The bathroom was OK - shower was a bit small - but it had everything that we needed/ A mention to the cleaners, who did a magnificent job each day, making the bed, changing the towels and leaving a lovely clean smell in the room. The air conditioner was efficient and quiet. After a long day on the beach it was a joy to come back to. We took advantage of the happy hour every day. Top tip - the Happy hour at the hotel next door is from 5-6, at Southern Palms from 6-7 and over the road at My Friends Place it runs from 7-8. Try doing that every day! We booked a room-only stay but enjoyed lunches at the bar and indulged in the buffet breakfast a couple of mornings. We ate out a lot and have not had a single bad experience on the Gap - every restaurant serves great food and has great service. Special mention to Cafe Sol and Tabu, but Harlequin, Cocktail Kitchen, Primo, Sharkeys and Castaways are all great. And please please please go to Daddies and Happy Days - cheaper but still awesome. The hotel has a great position on Dover Beach, which is 0.5km long - I know this because at 8am each day we would walk it end to end multiple times and the old Apple Watch recorded it. Beautiful, clean, white sand. The sea was a little rough the first few days but the last 4 days, it was fantastic, and so warm! We had no problems getting sun beds on the beach - never tried around the pool. Reason? Turtle TV! So many turtles swimming in the sea directly opposite the hotel - just set up and watch. I'm convinced they like surfing. The last days there we went swimming a lot and the turtles would come so close, investigating those weird bipeds in the water. The staff at the hotel are all brilliant - no exceptions. They really do make you feel at home and I loved chatting with them. It was like being looked after by your mum or grandma! They all laughed a lot with each other and the guests - a great sign of a great hotel. We will definitely be returning, and I will heartily recommend it to anyone who asks. We were very sad to be leaving. Read less

We loved it. Omg the beach, so beautiful but be careful with the waves. We saw turtles daily. We enjoyed taking shade with the palm trees. Had a meal in the hotel on the first night which was very good and we enjoyed happy hour. Maid service was great, reception and bar staff.

Very chilled hotel right on the beach. No rush for sun beds in the morning! Just pick one up and put it anywhere on the large expanse of beach. If you need an umbrella you can hire one from next door or use the palm trees. Free swimming with turtles in the sea. There are at least 4 opposite the hotel. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. We had an upgrade to a duplex which was great. Rooms cleaned daily. Fabulous sea view. Bar was lovely. Great cocktails. Not the fastest, but hey, we are in barbados on holiday! Breakfast buffet was great. Plenty of choice. We ate out daily as b&b. Couple of shops for snacks if needed. Ate at the van (restaurant/bar) parked up on the roadside. Great fish. Lisa's rotis are delicious if you don't mind a 10 minute walk. Daddies good for snacks and drinks. Lots of places to eat and drink on the gap. Highly recommended. Read less

We had a wonderful stay at the Southern Palms. Check in and out was super easy. The beachfront is GORGEOUS. It’s literally everything you want. Crystal clear waters at the shore that ombré out in teals and blues. The beach is very clean. They keep it chill and not covered in umbrellas- it’s actually gorgeous compared to the endless sea of umbrellas at the hotels next door. There are some palm trees for shade or you can pay a guy for an umbrella for the day. We did pay for one for our full beach day and it was perfection. There are NO creatures to bother you in the sand or on the beach, practically vendor-free, it was February and not very humid, and no seaweed until our second to last day, but even then, the seaweed didn’t ruin the picturesque serenity. The groundskeeper is amazing- you see how hard he works to keep everything running. The bar knows how to make a really good drink. We didn’t eat at the a la carte, so I can’t speak to that, but did do the dining area for dinner once- it was the day we arrived so we were really hungry after our travels and felt the island time when it came to service :/ We are a family of 4 with two young kids. This hotel was definitely filled mostly with elders, but there were a few other families and kids there as well. To be honest, this is probably how the beach stays relatively clear and picture perfect (many elders are at the restaurant or the pools, which all still somehow remained totally uncrowded). They have some live entertainment, but definitely some oldies kinda stuff. And this is such a small thing, but there were soap dispensers in the shower as opposed to teeny little bottles, which I loved. The rooms are clean and cleaned very well. The ocean view balcony is perfection! The hotel is in a wonderful location- there are great restaurants to either side of the hotel along the strip. Daddy’s was a favorite of ours- a local spot that grills amazing food right in front of you and has folding tables. Loved Happy Days cafe for breakfast. The view at Mimosas cannot be beat and the food was great. We had a truly excellent time and highly recommend Southern Palms! Read less
