The hotel

An indulgent institution on the island of Barbados, The Crane Resort has been welcoming luxury seeking guests for more than 130 years. The first travellers came for the blush-pink sands below this cliff-edge hotel, soft under their feet and washed by frothy white Caribbean surf. Today you can reach Crane Beach in the hotel's dramatic glass elevator, tucking into Bajan bites and rum punches while you're down there. And, although you still get the grand colonial styling and refined ambience, today's travellers are also rewarded with a cliff-top pool paradise, an historic adults-only pool, luxurious spa treatments, and sophisticated global dining experiences.

There’s a few negative reviews recently but I suspect this is people who don’t understand Barbados Covid protocols rather than anything to do with The Crane. Thanks to Chris Forbes and all! Read less

Our covid tests were delayed and we were unable to leave our room for 6 days. The Crane did little to make our stay more tolerable. They seemed annoyed that we were there, aside from our continuously mounting room service bill. Nobody called to check on us or see if we needed anything until day 5. The grounds of the resort were beautiful but we did not feel welcome here.I've tried to contact The Crane multiple times and can't get a response. - Disorganized and delayed covid testing and results notification (4 days) - Limited room service options, mediocre quality and over-priced - Rude staff and non-existent service - 3 hour wait at check-in - False promises, people say they'll help and push you off to the next person - Staff not wearing masks (including front desk) - Recepits aren't itemized so you have no idea what you're being charged for - The room amenities are okay but not what we'd expect of a 4-star resort. Cheap linens, stained/worn out furniture, dated decor - The private pools are REALLY cold! - ATM was broken for several days and there aren't any within walking distance A note on travel to Barbados during covid - Upon arrival, everything seemed very safe. At the resort and around the island, we saw lots of people that didn't seem to care. When we left, 8 out of 10 staff at airport security weren't wearing masks. If you're concerned about contracting covid, I'd delay your plans or consider traveling to a different location. Read less

Arrived Halloween 2020 - mid November so stayed here for a good three weeks. This was my first visit to Barbados, and months later I still dream about the island. I miss going to Crane Beach every morning, and getting my banana bread muffin from the cafe after on my way back to the room. If this is your first visit like mine, then first things first, get yourself an amazing tour guide / driver who will show you around, and give you the best experience of the island, through the eyes of a local. For us, we used E-Z-B Tours, headed up by the sensational Ezra Quintyne. Make sure you book him in advance via WhatsApp, (+1) 1246-234-8176 / ezb.qin@icloud.com. Ezra gave an awesome island tour, and got us from A-B throughout the trip, including tips on where to go, what to eat, the best hangouts. And Bajan sayings!! CHEESE ON BREAD! will be used in my slang arsenal, forever, thank you. He was such a blessing to my trip, a massive contributing factor to Barbados being one of the best holidays I've ever had, he essentially was my Bajan big brother from another mother at the end of my trip. Yes he is that awesome, and you will understand after you've met him. Now The Crane... I think during these weird times during COVID I feel it's not really fair from some of the comments I've read here, hating on the staff onsite being rude or being incompetent. There's a global pandemic going on and everyone is doing their best to make everyone feel safe, and carry on with their jobs to make everyone's stays as close to how it was pre-COVID, that's how I felt anyway. From my experience, everyone from the bellhops to the housekeeping were nothing but hospitable, for most of everyday during my stay - everyone was eager to help, nothing was too much trouble, people are friendly and happy to have a chat when the opportunity presents. Even down to the gardener who showed me a secret shortcut to the Crane beach when I got TOTALLY lost onsite, yes I was having a particularly 'slow' morning - portrays when I mean, everybody. Everyone is happy to make you feel welcome. My only negatives, were some system problems particularly at reception, which I'm sad to see the staff getting the wrath due to it (e.g. our check in took a couple of hours but we were happy to get pissed on the rum punches in reception, we are on holiday afterall so why get the hump??), I also think some of the rooms, particularly in the suites next to the Chanel pool, (the 200 suites? apologies, forgotten) could do with some renovating, particularly the plumbing......... (CC: the management, Chris - you know what happened!..) For a first trip during COVID to this incredible island, I had honestly the best holiday ever. The Crane was a good base, for me, the ridiculously convenient elevator access to Crane Beach, I still bang on about and dream about as one of my favourite beaches compared to all the others I've been to on the island. Maybe I wasn't so caught up on the details of what a resort should be, but I think you have absolutely everything you need at The Crane, and it's a good haven to recharge after exploring. The ocean at Crane Beach I still miss while I write this. If you want to stay onsite, there's plenty of choice food wise so you know you'll get awesome food - if not, you can walk to Marco Polo's across the road for doubly-awesome fare. If you want to explore, this is a good, safe base to do that, whether you stay here post your quarantine booking or not. All I can say is, thank you to all the staff at The Crane for looking after me during this wacky year, (personal and COVID reasons wise) - and giving me the chill, inimitable Bajan vibe that I have bottled up and carried with me through. I'm not usually this hippy-dippy and flowery but this is what after a visit to the island does to you. It chills you out, makes you kinder, reminds you, especially when you're out in the ocean, that you are so insignificant in comparison. The troubles at home bothering you are insignificant. I had the best time even during COVID restricted times, so I will definitely be back with a vengeance when this is all over. THANK YOU X Read less

Our trip in general was pretty poor. Similar to other reviews, the service was lacking. When we arrived our room wasn't ready and we had to wait approximately one hour. On getting into our room it wasn't what we have booked. With Two young kids, (5 and 2) we booked a room with a roof top pool, nice and safe. Instead we had a plunge pool with no protection or guards on all the window/gaps. Looked lovely but for two boys who just wanted to jump in and out it was dangerous. The balcony also never got any sun, great view of the sea, but literally no sun at all. Always in the shade. After alot of calls, they couldn't move us, then they could but all the rooms we had booked were in the area of the hotel designated for positive covid test residents in isolation..... Clearly thats not sensible so we declined. Why allow us to book it to begin with? No one really cared just brushed us off. Once out of quarantine a customer service manager called to see how things were. Funny when we couldn't leave our rooms and wanted to change they couldn't offer an alternative that was safe. He declared they could but with one day left on our stay, what was the point. We knew we couldn't leave the room until we had our second test, hence booking a specific type of room. The room we got was on the website cheaper than the one we booked, in effect a downgrade... When questioned about refunding the difference they just battered it off as we booked via the Hilton website as their issue. Funny as the Crane were happy to take my money on check in. Food on the whole was ok, expensive but what you would expect. Covid test result came back just over 48 hours but to get the certificates we needed to show to our next destination on the island was a farce. 4 days, 16 phone calls and sitting in reception until we got them for an hour and finally they arrived. Very much happy to keep you waiting, one guest who we saw on the beach who had the test the same time as ours was left 4 days for a result, even though when he rang the lab to get an update they said it was sent to the hotel 2 days prior. He had to pay for extra nights because of the delays. Room was comfortable, enough space for the four of us to cope locked up for 5 days, Bed was comfy. Didnt want the TV as we had a Amazon Fire Stick... a must. Kitchen was adequate but getting rubbish picked up during quarantine was poor, No instructions on check in, no guidance on what we could or couldnt do, we ended up asking the nurse who did our second covid test what we were allowed to do.... Answer... Not much till your negative. Wifi.... You HAVE to use a VPN on their wifi network. As an IT professional its the worst Wifi set up I have ever seen in a hotel. You can access everything. The boys took great delight in changing peoples netflix from my phone, stopping, pausing, fast forwarding, basically being the jokers.... but thats not the worst. You could browse to the reception desk phones and given my knowledge could have dialed out. You could log into their Unifi equipment as the passwords were the default, you could log into their Cisco switches as the passwords were default. You could access their Windows servers on site too. The network is completely unsecure, any password you enter on any website can be obtained through their wifi with the correct tools unless you protect yourself with a VPN. Its a joke really as they use Unifi equipment, changing one setting on their controller (which you can also reach) would block all guests and devices from talking to each other and make the network significantly more secure. For a luxury resort its very poor. If you've recently been and had any fraud or accounts you need to change your passwords. If someone on site wanted to cause damage, the cranes internal networks would allow them pretty easily. Read less

I was so excited to visit The Crane Barbados as it was also my first trip to beautiful Barbados. My boyfriend and I booked The Crane for both New Years and his birthday. I booked an Ocean View suite. Right from booking there were lots of problems. They overcharged me and did not send me a confirmation email - I had to call 5 times. to receive one I also called to ask about the rules for quarantine and was not told that we could not go to the beach or use any of the amenities and would be locked in our room (I would have stayed elsewhere). When we arrived in our suite, our jet tub was broken - we reported it (it was never fixed). There was zero room cleaning. The concierge at the hotel also lost our original COVID-19 tests when we checked in and rudely blamed us of this and threatened to not let us get tested. The toilet was broken (reported & also never fixed). Room service was always very late and rude even though we spent thousands on ordering in. We left disgusted and checked into The Little Arches, a luxury boutique hotel and thank god they were so lovely and we had a wonderful experience in Barbados after all. The Crane was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in in my entire life. I would highly suggest never staying there. Read less
