The Don Cesar

St Pete Beach, Clearwater and St Pete

The hotel

The stomping ground of celebrities past and present (think F Scott Fitzgerald in earlier years and Justin Timberlake more recently), The Don CeSar Hotel is regarded as Florida’s legendary Pink Palace. Registered with the Historic Hotels of America, it effortlessly blends the Great Gatsby era of pampering with modern European grandeur. Picture-perfect in every way, the beach is a wonderful place to relax or indulge in a variety of exciting water sports – kite surfing anyone? There are also 2 beautifully furnished beachfront swimming pools to take advantage of, so grab a good book and some sun cream and enjoy! Whilst you’re busy, chilling out or enjoying a pampering session at the spa perhaps, the kids will be having at ball at Camp Cesar. Enjoy the family-friendly touches – there are kid’s menus and even a cupboard full of toys to play with! Even a dedicated retail shop carrying all the essentials to keep kids and teens happy and active. At Camp Cesar, however, they’ll have the time of their lives, participating in beach crafts, seashell hunting, castle contests and pool games. Dine around The Don at one of our many restaurants or lounges. Enjoy dining al fresco for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner at Sea Porch, experience an exquisite evening at Maritana Grille, or take in the stunning sunset views with coastal cuisine and cool cocktails at Rowe Bar.

I have been visiting this amazing hotel since I was a child and now have the pleasure of taking my children too. The staff always accommodate us with the room that we have stayed in every single trip. The beach by the hotel is beautiful. The pool is always so clean And well maintained by the pool staff. The breakfast is delicious and the highlight of every day is getting an ice cream from Uncle Andy’s. So many of our favourite family memories have been made at this hotel. The staff are always willing to do anything that you require. My children especially love being greeted by Michael the doorman and think it’s incredible that he still remembers them as 18 and 20-year-olds as he did when they were 6 and 4 and all the times we visited in between. There is only one pink Palace. We hope to visit again soon. Read less

This was an anniversary staycation for my husband and I. We actually live across the street and always envy the guests coming and going as we have learned a lot about the extensive history of this hotel resort. Hotel and grounds: There is construction taking place at the entrance to the hotel that did contribute to some confusion on how to get to the lobby check in area from the temporary side entrance. The Lobby is beautiful and the lobby bar is absolutely stunning. Check in employees were friendly and helpful and that was to the extent that we saw hotel employees inside the hotel. Service at the restaurants, pool and beach were wonderful. The ground floor is confusing to navigate, but otherwise the hotel is easy to get around and find what you are after. The grounds outside of the construction are very well manicured and nice to take a stroll. Room: Beds were VERY comfortable. Very clean rooms and the decor is lovely. The bathrooms could use an update for sure, but still retain some charm from previous renovations it seems. Pool: Lots of accessible loungers that are decently spaced to accomadate the social distancing requests, but could be improved. Service at the pool was sparse, but the drinks were well prepared. They do have towel service available very conveniently. Beach: ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! The softest sand and beautiful water. Employees to check you into loungers and umbrellas and someone walking around taking orders for snacks and beverages consistently. Comfortable loungers and towel service. Restaurants: Only the ROWE bar was open during our stay and for our 3 day stay we grew tired of the same limited menu. The same menu is available to order from at the Beachcomber bar and from the employees circling pool and beach for orders. The ice cream store was a nice treat and did have grab and go options, but of course at a steep price. We overheard an employee informing a guest that soon the hotel will begin a very expansive renovation, so maybe check on restrictions for that time, but looking forward to seeing the final make-over. Overall we had a lovely experience given the necessary limitations during these unusual times of public health awareness. Looking forward to a stay in the future. Read less

A beautiful old fashioned hotel with a pristine beach. Great staff. The food was of average quality and limited due to COVID, and also expensive, but there are plenty of dining options close by. My fiancé and i are currently staying at the don cesar, for four nights. We are supposed to be in Aruba but canceled our trip due to Covid. Things are shutting down extremely early, no menus at the beach bar, poor service when asking for towels. They say many of these things are due to covid precautions yet not a single server at the bar or the beach has their mask on despite county ordinance, and despite that they are handling food and drink. We had an amazing stay at the breakers this summer during covid, felt amazingly safe and well care for and hoped the Don Cesar would provide the same accommodations. Quite disappointed. Read less

Valet parking was not operating, so we had to park the car across the street and got wet going into the hotel because it was raining. The first thing I noticed was a foul smell of wetness, not sure where that was coming from. The layout of the hotel is very confusing. The reception was a small area where five employees were standing around talking with each other, and after me saying "excuse me!" they finally acknowledged us. The room was very small, not what I had expected but didn't care much because you don't come on vacation to stay inside a room. We went to the bar at the pool, and some nice guy Mario took care of us and was a good bartender. The guy who was running the drinks and food at the beach was simply amazing, wish I could remember his name. The last day we went to the outside restaurant by the beach and had breakfast so we could enjoy the beach a little while longer before we headed home. We were sitting down for over 8 minutes before anyone came to the table to greet us. We got our drinks, and my husband needed a spoon for his coffee, so we had no silverware or sugar. He went to another table and took their sugar, and I had to go and grab silverware from the bin they had. When I opened my napkin to put it on my lap, it had a hair in it, so I asked to get another set. The food was something I could have done at home myself, and they forgot my husband's side of sausage. I really wanted to give this place a chance, but sadly the pink palace was truly a let down :( Read less
