We stayed at the Verandah Resort in March 2020- right in the beginning of when coronavirus hit the US. We have been to both Beaches Turks and Caicos and also Beaches Negril. While the food is better at Beaches, overall we LOVED our time at Verandah (and it is literally half the cost of Beaches). We stayed in a Superior waterfront room with our 2 kids and loved all the space we had. The room could use some updating- new flooring, udated furniture, etc, but with so much to do at the resort we were hardly in our room. The room was clean and comfortable and the most amazing view of the ocean. The staff was friendly and warm. We loved the beaches- especially the Rasta beach since it was more private and secluded. I could have spent 100% of my time on that beach and been perfectly happy. My husband and son went fishing one day (set up thru the activities desk) and had the best time. They caught a ton of fish and really enjoyed the boat captain. We also did Sting Ray City combined with a new turtle sanctuary. It was an incredible time. As mentioned earlier, the food is average. There was a good variety, but overall is was just average. We did pay the extra $40 per person and went to Nicole's one night which was excellent. Well worth the extra money. They could definitely use more options at both beach lunch places. The resort is spread out but there is always a cart and driver available to take you wherever you want to go. We actually enjoyed walking the resort to help burn off some calories. We feel very lucky to have gone to Verandah just before the virus hit and will absolutely be back once things are back to normal. It was an excellent vacation at a great price! Read less

The room was a little dated but was clean. How much time do you spend in your room anyway. There is a lot of walking up and down hills. We knew this ahead of time. We enjoy walking. Maybe not good for everyone. You can call for a shuttle if you don't want to walk. The food and drinks were good, with lots of variety and the service was good too. Shout out to Nigel. You were always smiling. Made my day. It only rained once in the week we were there. To bad it had to happen after they had put in all the work to set up the food and Barbecues and tables with tablecloths by the pool. It was still lovely but extra work for the staff. There are 2 nice beaches and 2 pools. One pool was for adults only which was great. We played mini-golf quite a few times. The Entertainment at night was good most nights. We met lots of very nice people at The Verandah. We walked over to The Pineapple Resort next door to check it out and thought it looked pretty good too. Had a nice lunch and a few drinks there. We also walked over to Devil's Bridge which is nearby. We went on the Shelly Jay Tour of the island. It is a great way to see a lot of Antigua. The tour was about 6 hours. We lucked out that there were no cruise ships in that day so it was less busy. Marcus, our driver and guide was full of information about Antigua. We felt safe everywhere we went on the island. We travelled here late February as a family of 4. We have two young children 5 & 3. The resort itself has beautiful scenery but it needs some money spent on it to bring it up to the standards of a 4 star hotel as it claims to be. Unfortunately my 5 year old fell ill the day after we returned from the hotel and was hospitalized with salmonella food poisoning. She was extremely poorly for over a week and given that she got sick 12 hours after we left the resort, it was obvious she got sick from there. Doctor reports to prove this. Hygiene is not a priority in this hotel. That is obvious in the ‘canteen style’ buffet area. The hotel have taken no responsibility that she got sick there even after months of trying to prove this to them. There are even other trip advisor reviews which have stated they got food poisoning on the same dates we were there. We will definitely not be going back and I would not recommend it. Beware! My wife and I stayed at the Verandah in December 2019, and could not have been any more impressed with our stay. The location was beautiful, and we really enjoyed our room with a view of the Main Beach. We also highly recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise. It was like none other. The facilities were superb. We really enjoyed learning to sail, and all the other water-based activities - snorkel rental, kayaking, pedal boats, etc. - were great. Equipment was good and readily available. Staff were personable and fun. Outside of the ocean, there was plenty to do - the pool, games, tennis, walks. We felt we had plenty to keep us busy and happy over the seven days, and finished each day exhausted (in a good way). The event staff were fun and helpful. The food was super. We ate at the buffet nearly every night, and there was good variety with efforts made to keep it fresh and fun. The staff were sociable and welcoming and really added to the great atmosphere. We especially appreciated the effort put into the Beach and Pool Parties, which were hugely memorable for us. Overall, the staff were courteous, welcoming, friendly, and fun. We were not in want of anything during our stay and although we were skeptical of our first all-inclusive holiday (tending to prefer hikes and roughing it), we loved it...and that was largely due to the efforts of the staff that made the stay effortless for us. We can't wait to visit again. Read less
