Such a special place. I love how they have renovated the old plantation cottages while maintaining the integrity of the buildings and the feeling of old Hawaii. Beautiful property with views of ocean and Ni'ihau, surrounded by quiet Waimea charm. An ideal property to relax with pupus and drinks on the lanai. Location super close for easy exploration of world class Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Parks.

I ended up really liking this place! It is quaint. It is laid back and relaxing. It is a perfect place to enjoy the sunniest side of the island and take excursions out to the Napali coast. I ended up really liking this place! It is quaint. It is laid back and relaxing. It is a perfect place to enjoy the sunniest side of the island and take excursions out to the Napali coast. The cottages are old fashioned but they are cute. We were in a two bedroom cottage. Cute kitchen with a back porch and front porch to sit and enjoy the evening. The property is really pretty and the smell in the air at night from the flowers was absolutely heavenly. This isn't a fancy pants place so if you want turned down linens and chocolates on your pillow this isn't the place for you but if you want to see an old historical Hawaiian plantation, be in a good position to explore the low key sunny side, enjoy art walks and good restaurants in the town of Hanapepe like Japanese Grandma's Cafe and Porky's Kauai or The Fresh Shave in Waimea and visit the absolutely amazing beach at Polihale State Park this place is good. The grounds are well kept and beautiful, there are BBQ's, a pool to take an end of day dip in. A wedding took place one night and I couldn't help but think what a magical place it would be for that. I recommend spending time here and time in another location like Koloa Landing or Hanalei. You'll be glad you came here to the sunnier side for some of your stay. Read less

For almost 40 years I have been singing “ I want to go back to my little grass shack...” to my children and grandkids at bedtime. Without a doubt the Cottages At Waimea Plantation are about the closest you can come to that wonderful quiet and peaceful experience in Hawaii today. I know there are many people who prefer a swanky posh upscale resort with all the bells and whistles who may disagree with me but the quaint well appointed 1920s cottage with amazing wide open windows was exactly what we were looking for. We fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves lapping at the shore. We walked through gardens, across lawns and beach combed the black sand beaches each day and finished the day watching the most glorious sunsets over Niihau. Our cottage contained period pieces that took our breath away. The hand carving on several pieces was exquisite. We loved puttering in our fully stocked kitchen fixing breakfasts and even a dinner. It would be difficult to find a more picturesque breakfast or Happy Hour view than the view from our Lanai. We enjoyed the birds and lizards who joined us, even the chickens. Something fun about hearing the roosters crowing. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel at home. You were the end of our amazing anniversary vacation but we know that we will have to return again. There is too much wonderful that we still need to enjoy. Mahalo nui loa! Read less

This turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had a beach view cottage and it did not disappoint. We awoke every morning to a view of the serene beach and slept with our screen doors open to the sound of the waves. This is not for those looking for white sand beaches but the beach is great for long walks and no crowds. We had great weather as this is the drier side of the island. Although I wouldn't rave about the restaurant, it was nice to have for at least one meal where we didn't get in the car. The town is rustic and has a funky vibe but not a lot of food choice. There was a wedding while we were there and it looked like a wonderful event beneath the banyan trees. Read less
