Clift

Union Square, San Francisco

The hotel

After a big renovation at the end of 2019, you’ll get to check out a brand new Union Square hotel. The Clift Royal Sonesta is a stunning meeting of the glamourous Italian Renaissance-style and the beautiful modern design, reflective of this cutting edge city. The legendary Redwood Room, always a San Francisco favourite, has been refreshed while preserving its iconic history, and there's a new bistro to check out. Even the bees are busy producing honey on the rooftop, ready to add to your drinks and salads.

This is by far the most under rated hotel in Union square. The inside is amazing, newly renovated and the best part of the hotel is staff. The whole staff was amazing, friendly and hospitable. Jing who was at the front desk was wonderful and I thank him from his service.

Have you ever heard of anyone trading in a Lamborghini for a Honda Civic? That’s the equivalent of what they did with the renovation of this place. It’s been neutered and sanitized, expunged of every last trace of its erstwhile character, style, and swag. But not all is lost. The staff is still to die for. The rooms are comfortable and clean. It’s been neutered and sanitized, expunged of every last trace of its erstwhile character, style, and swag. But not all is lost. The staff is still to die for. The rooms are comfortable and clean. And the legend of the darkened-lobby, signless Clift of the Shrager and Stark days will forever remain in the hearts and spirits of the hops, agents, and guests who lived and loved it. Hops never say die. Boom bud, boom. Read less

We came to spend our Christmas family holiday for 4 nights here. We got the 2 queens Executive Room. Let’s just say so glad we picked this hotel because it is one main reason that made our trip a successful one! The location is strategic. Walking distance to Union Square and major shopping area. Wide selections of good food nearby. Our room was clean and all staffs are very accommodating. We were concerned prior to our arrival about some bad news happening in San Francisco lately around the area. But we’re so glad to find out that there’s nothing to be worry about. We will stay here again when we visit San Francisco. Read less

Stayed here on a Saturday fir a concert at the Warfield. Neat chic style hotel. I was in room 932 which is a corner room on the floor. Nicely sized. Gym had dumbbells to 75 so a decent upper body workout. Don’t come on leg day. No machines The best part here was the breakfast. Excellent and great rich coffee. Nice stay in union Square

I highly recommend not staying here. I stayed in October 2021 and received the worst customer service EVER from the second I checked in until I checked out. The judge upon appearance if you aren’t wearing snazzy, flashy attire, you will not be treated fairly. The first rude comment I received was when I checked in, and the front desk attendant… Read more
I highly recommend not staying here. I stayed in October 2021 and received the worst customer service EVER from the second I checked in until I checked out. The judge upon appearance if you aren’t wearing snazzy, flashy attire, you will not be treated fairly. The first rude comment I received was when I checked in, and the front desk attendant asked, “are you even at the right hotel?”. I have never received that type of disrespect from anyone in the hospitality industry. I spoke to a manager at the end of my stay and told him about my experience and how disgusted I was with my experience. He assured me he would take care of my inconvenience and begged me not to leave them a bad review. This was posted two months after because he did not stick to his word. It goes to show what type of staff they hire. Read less
