Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown

Financial District, New York

The hotel

A cut above the rest, this chic hotel jets up from Lower Manhattan, giving city views from its spacious suites and rooms. It’s not just the architecture putting it on another level though, with high-living luxuries including a spa hosting Resident Healers and dining by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck at CUT – a stylish restaurant specialising in Wagyu steaks. Every inch oozes the timeless style you’d expect from Four Seasons, but the dedicated health and wellness floor puts you on cloud nine, letting you swim among the skyscrapers that sit beyond the lap pool’s floor-to-ceiling windows, all just a block from One World Trade Center and The Oculus.

Serious ethical concerns regarding the conduct of business at all levels of management. In stark contrast, staff are sincere and genuinely warm and welcoming. The setting and location maybe the best thing this place has going for it.

We visited the four season down town on December 2021, arriving at 10:50pm. On the reception was one lady, engaged in conversation/ argument with another couple. We wanted for half an hour in the “lobby “ which consists of a wide corridor, until we got the attention of the receptionist. She Said they didn’t have an upgrade ( made reservations through Amex centurion). Went - with no help from hotel stuff - to an exceptionally small room, that had a stuffy smell, and felt a bit claustrophobic. We called Amex, intending on checking up for another hotel , and surprise surprise, all of a sudden there was an upgrade. We checked out the next day, not before we enjoyed their magnificent spa, which is, in our mind, the only good amenity of this hotel. Definitely not a luxury hotel, nor a great service ( manager was supposed to call us, and never did) Will not recommend this four seasons to any of our friends. Read less

Had I not stayed the previous four nights at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia, I would have thought this was pretty darn good. And pretty much everything was, especially the custom lettuce and olive salad with salmon that room service delivered to me when I arrived to get on video calls in my room, desperately hungry. Staff: Excellent. Housekeeping came while I was on the interminable video call and I pointed out blood stains on one of the pillows which she changed immediately. Front desk was excellent and friendly. I arrived early and they were able to accommodate me and get me to the room. Spa: Didn't use. Just ate. Location: I was going to Capital Grille for dinner (meh) so it was an easy walk down Broadway. Room: Man the bed mattress was worn and slightly lumpy. Again, after the Philadelphia stay, it was modestly disappointing. Having said all that, this is my go-to place in NYC and will remain so. Read less

Adjacent to Wall Street, Tribeca and around the corner from City Hall, The Four Seasons Downtown is as good as it gets. Adjacent to Wall Street, Tribeca and around the corner from City Hall, The Four Seasons Downtown is as good as it gets. I guess wherever there is a Four Seasons, this is probably true, and I have stayed in many of them around the world. The service is matchless, and the 21st Century bells and whistles are all here. The security is amazing, as are the Co-vid precautions. The room was spotless and maintained twice a day. When I tried to close the huge heavy curtains by myself, I couldn't find a drawstring. When I began to tug at it, the entire wall of curtain magically closed by itself. Room was super quiet, equipped with an i-pad for services, and an Nespresso machine which I was too dumb to turn on. That afternoon I received a handwritten note saying they noticed I tried to use it and would be happy to demonstrate. It's the little things that make it first-rate and also very expensive. A word of warning, though: There is no real lobby area to sit with visitors. The little bar off the lobby attached to the Wolfgang Puck restaurant is incredibly noisy (and closed Mondays)... so you really can't invite someone for drinks or coffee at the hotel. Read less
