The last stay that we had was 6 years ago, just my wife & I, for her birthday weekend. We booked this hotel in April because of IHG being our preferred hotel brand. This was my family’s 1st stay at a IHG hotel in NYC. As other reviews have stated, we were aware of homeless people outside of the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, it wasn’t a concern because those that were outside of the hotel entrance kept to themselves. One thing that everyone should know is that the sitting area that is outside of the hotel is a “park”. There are other hotels in the NYC area that have parks or sitting areas in front of the hotel entrance. Also, there was a NYPD van in front of the hotel, so there was some assurance of security whenever we left and returned to the hotel. The hotel staff at the front desk were outstanding. The front desk employees greeted us and if we had questions, there were professional and accommodating. We were on the 33rd floor, so we had a great view of the Empire State Building and NYC Skyline. The noise on the streets were no issue during our stay. The location of the hotel is great because there are a bunch of restaurants within 1-3 blooks, 7-Eleven close by, 2 gift shops within 5 minutes of the hotel, Empire State Building & Times Square is about a 20 minute walk, Target was about 15 minutes from the hotel, so plenty to choose from on what to eat and access to other tourist attractions. There were times in the morning that the elevators were busy, but throughout the day and into the evening, the elevators were hit and miss, sometimes busy and other times, not really. We reserved a room with 2 Double Beds and when we got our room, we were told that we had a room with 2 Full Size Beds. When we got to our room, it was totally small. Our last stay in NYC, our room was double the size of this one. I was not happy with the room size and it barely fits a family of 4. On our first night, there was a family that kept going back & forth until 2am, so after my wife talked to them about the noise, it seemed as if they didn’t care and continued doing what they were doing. After I spoke to the same family and advised them that the noise was out of hand and my family is trying to sleep, they stopped after about 30 minutes. The rest of the stay, there was no issue with noise while we were in our room. Housekeeping was not available, so there was no service for taking out the trash or cleaning the room when we left for the day. I would consider staying at this hotel again because of the hotel staff and location. Read less

Hard to find much to like about this place. The lifts are literally a joke, the staff all use them as I assume there’s no service lift so it takes forever to get around. Use the stairs would be my recommendation but walking 25 flights of stairs multiple times a day gets tedious. There’s an area outside the hotel that appears to be a junkies… Read more

Use the stairs would be my recommendation but walking 25 flights of stairs multiple times a day gets tedious. There’s an area outside the hotel that appears to be a junkies playground. The seats are littered with people in god only knows what. To top it off during our stay they had no water. Front desk a waste of time. So yeah, if you like the worst lifts in hotel history, an entrance that’s used for all of New York’s many smack heads and not being able to shower, use the toilet or brush your teeth stay here, you’ll have a great time. After reading some reviews I was a little worried about the local people loitering outside the hotel and the thumbs down about the elevators but... On our arrival there was local people lounging around outside the hotel on the benches, some were clearly home less and a couple others were definitely 'high' on something. However they were not ever any trouble. They didn't acknowledge anyone coming and going from the hotel and were never a threat. The smell of weed was present but honestly walking around new york city the smell was everywhere not just near the hotel. On the second day the police had moved the locals hanging around on and were outside in a van for the rest of our trip. We were on floors 4 and 11 we didn't have any issues with the elevators but I can see at busy times why people.would wait a while. We arrived back one evening to find a large school party as well as others waiting to go up, however the security guard was very helpful and made them use one lift and all other guests use the other which made it very quick and easy to get back to our rooms. There is a sign in the lifts showing you busy and quiet times when best to use the lifts. Both our rooms were facing the front of the hotel and very busy rds, the room we had on level 4 , I thought we would be awake all night due to the outside noise, but it wasn't an issue. Slept great. Our stay was very pleasant and would definitely stay again. The hotel staff were helpful and polite and very welcoming. Read less

But walking on 8th Ave. with sorry examples of our population and the racket of the city makes me glad I live where I do. ( the preceding comment may sound prejudicial and I try to be understanding, but the collection of crazies on the street is not encouraging. As far as the hotel goes, it was the least favorite of my trip. This narrow building spread over 36!floors with often slow elevators, narrow corridors, and a claustrophobic room with no room to place a suitcase I find annoying. Yes, this is New York and space is at a premium, but it looks like the architects were out to cram as many tourists as possible into a constrained space to extract the highest amount of revenue. The location is great! 2? short blocks to Port Authority, lots of food choices nearby, walk to Time Square, bought discounted TKTS tickets to a broadway show, walked from the theater to hotel 5-6 short blocks away... Small rooms, not much space to move around when you have luggage though we managed and we're Asians, so we don't use up as much space LOL the 2 elevators is definitely not enough for the hotel, sometimes would have to wait coz it was full. Suggest you take very high floors or very low...that way either the elevator is still empty and you get to ride first coming down or take the stairs if you're in the lower floors Cons: lots of vagrants and beggars outside, along 8th avenue. they didn't bother us at all but saw someone with a syringe (hopefully was insulin but...) at the doorstep of the hotel and the smell of Marijuana smoke throughout the city was so annoying. No breakfast, no bottled water, no parking (there was parking nearby but expensive and no in/out privilege, no laundry service. Cleaning service was a hit or miss, you HAD to inform reception of your request early, we did but room was not cleaned, so the next day, when we saw a cleaning lady, gave her $2-3 to make sure room was cleaned. There was a gym with 4-5 machines and a business center was a single pc and printer/scanner at the Lower Lobby Overall, will definitely stay here again, the location can't be beat, subway was great though had to keep an eye out for hate crime so stay away from the edge and always keep looking around you for crazies and a-holes who might try anything though am a guy and can handle myself Read less
