Hotel Inglaterra

Havana, Cuba

The hotel

Every bit the gilded old-world glamour you’d hope for in Havana, Hotel Inglaterra first opened its doors back in 1875. Since then it’s welcomed the rich and famous, drawn in by its authentic colonial styling, its legendary roof terrace (which features a grill bar for good measure), and its unbeatable location — facing Parque Central and just steps from guidebook favourites like the Capitolio, Gran Teatro, and the pedestrianised San Rafael boulevard. As well as the rooftop grill, there’s the breakfast venue El Colonial, the chilled-out La Sevillana café bar, and Gran Café el Louvre, a sidewalk sanctuary whose bohemian collection of patrons past have ranged from musicians to poets, and where today you can listen to live music as you watch Havana’s hubbub outside from one of its old cast iron seats.

For the price you pay this hotel is a joke, despite the huge and pleasant entrance hall. I arrive in a group (15 people altogether) and it took 1 1/2 h to have everyone registered. Ridiculous (Nov 18th, 2021). We returned on Dec 7th, 2021 - 13 people) and again, the same process took still 50 minutes, with 3 employees working behind the desk! The… Read more

Ridiculous (Nov 18th, 2021). We returned on Dec 7th, 2021 - 13 people) and again, the same process took still 50 minutes, with 3 employees working behind the desk! The breakfasts are standard, brought to you straight from the kitchen (no buffet). It includes ONE single cup of coffee only, for a second one you have to pay extra. One single tea bag included. I asked for a glass of cold milk - they would have only hot milk. A few slices more bread? No, because they need the bread for later coming guests... Luckily I booked this hotel with a tour. Just after the country opened its borders again on Nov. 15th, 2021. An individual booking would have cost € 126 for a single room. Read less

As soon as I sit down the doorman came to me and said if I m not a guest I couldnt stay there I told him I will stay only 5 mn and I wasnt disturbing anybody anyway but he insisted and was very arrogant. How do you sell wifi cards at the desk and having a wifi that everybody can access and then treat customers like that? I was having drinks and meals at the terrace of this hotel before but since then never again Teach your doorman how to behave please! Read less

But our server was quite rude. The next visit was to the covered patio at the entrance to the hotel. Again, our server didn't seem to be interested in giving even mediocre service. The meals, when they arrived after nearly an hour of waiting, were dry and not appetizing. Dine elsewhere, there are lots of choices nearby. Read less
