Mondrian Park Avenue

Midtown, New York

The hotel

Sleek, sophisticated and bold, it’s easy to see why the Mondrian Park Avenue was named in Conde Nast’s ‘Best 25 hotels in New York City’ in 2019. Overlooking Park Avenue, you can sit and watch the world go by in the rooftop lounge (drink in hand, of course). Wake up to the sights and sounds of the Big Apple from the comfort of your room, and enjoy a morning yoga class, run twice a week. After the sun sets, you can enjoy some Mediterranean-inspired food in the restaurant, or make your way to the hidden lounge bar to enjoy some live music or a DJ set. And when you’re ready to go out exploring, you’re just a few block from some of NYC’s top assets.

I had THE BEST experience! From before I even arrived all the way up until I left. I had two rooms booked so I requested an early check in as well as the rooms being on the same floor. Not only did they make note in my reservation and honor my requests, the rooms were connected with a joining door which was perfect!!!! I even had a package delivered and they held it for me until I arrived. Secondly, the customer service at this hotel was PHENOMENAL!!! From check in to check out! I really felt like the employees were family. Rachel is AMAZING!!!!!!!! The entire staff was great. The hotel was clean. The rooms were nice. If you needed anything in particular, the staff didn’t hesitate to bring it to you or provide it for you. Yes the rooms are smaller than normal, boutique size, but that’s majority of the hotels in NYC unless you’re booking presidential suites for the big bucks!! Anddddddd it’s one of the few hotels that provide double beds in some of their rooms. The double room was actually pretty spacious. Nice Most NYC hotels are king beds only. Nice size bathrooms with the walk in showers which I prefer!!! Also, this hotel was in the PERFECT location. Close to everything. I will definitely be staying here anytime I’m in NYC. Best birthday trip ever. Read less

If you're looking for a hotel with a great view, the Mondrian Park Avenue is a great choice. I booked the Balcony King for a weekend staycation. The room was on the smaller side, but the balcony more than made up for it with its incredible view. If you need more space during your stay, the hotel lounge on the 15th Floor is one of the most spacious I've seen. The lounge is also a great place to relax during happy hour with their super friendly bartenders Koko and Luke. Rachel, the front desk manager was extra accommodating when I needed to swap my room. Great customer service, great bartenders, great view. It checked all my boxes for a great stay. Read less

I don't ever really leave reviews. However, I think it's important for other potential guests to recognize the potential experience(s) they may face when staying at Mondrian Park Avenue. Please note, I am speaking to my experience at Mondrian Park Avenue. However, based on the reviews I've just come to find on here these issues are not new. Let me start by noting that the pandemic has certainly brought about unprecedented difficulties, from staffing shortages to supply chain issues. As travel bounces back, I think it's important for guests and hotels to understand that things are being adjusted and improved each day. However, I cannot excuse my experience at Mondrian Park Avenue. Please note, I really wanted to like this place. I completed pre-check in before my arrival and checked in a little after 6/7 pm. Upon my arrival, another guest was having a conversation with who I believe was the on-duty manager about room issues. I thought nothing of it because it was not my business, and sometimes guests make mistakes, and sometimes hotels make mistakes. After a long day, all I wanted to do at this point was get up to my room and wind down. Check-in was easy. When I finally got upstairs and opened the door to my room red flags began to pop up everywhere. First red flag - I requested a room with some view besides the side of a brick building. Looking back, I should have asked for a room on a higher floor. However, I wasn't notified until AFTER I called the front desk to voice my other concerns that they didn't have a room available in my room category with a view. Why wasn't this expressed to me before I checked in or after I booked the room? The images online and on social media tell me otherwise. I want to note before listing all of the physical issues in the room that the front desk associates, when I voiced my concerns about the room, tried to offer me a paid upgrade. This was extremely disappointing that this was their initial solution to an in-house issue. After profusely expressing my disappointment and concerns, the on-duty manager, Moses, who was kind during the experience, finally got on the phone with me and offered a complimentary upgrade to an ADA room, but it did not have the view I initially requested. I get he was doing what he could considering they told me they were completely sold out besides the penthouse. It was the fact that I was initially offered an upgrade at charge because there were issues in my room because of the property's lack of attention + upkeep. It’s just bad customer service, especially when I went online to find that the next category of the room was going for a lower price the two nights I was staying there than what I was already paying. So when I refer to both rooms, I am referring to the initial room I was sent to and the one I was ‘upgraded’ to. Now for the room + hotel - sharing a list below of *some* the concerns/issues noticed: - Severe scuff marks all over the walls in the first room. - Wallpaper pulled off the wall near the framed photos on the wall - Streaks all over the glass in both rooms - What looked to be either excess grout or mold in + near the shower in the second room - The minibar wasn't fully stocked (regardless of whether someone uses it, it's just general good business practice to offer your paying guest a fully stocked mini bar) in both rooms - The doorstop was unscrewed, flipped upside down, waiting for someone to step on it in the first room. The engineer did come up and fix it after I mentioned it to the front desk associate. - Both rooms were extremely dusty; there was a film of dust on the duvet cover. I ran my finger over the duvet and pulled a layer of dust up. Things look like they had not been dusted or vacuumed in a while. - The shower heads had crusted over hard water on them and were desperately in need of a scrub. - The rooms clearly had a slight wet smell to them, which no explains the sore throat I got with the AC running. - The room had two different brands of toiletries (Malin + Goetz and Ciel spa) - pick a brand and stick to it. It looks half-assed and piecemeal. Not very 4/5 star energy. - It seems like there was decor missing from the rooms. (Based upon Google review images, socials, and even the property site, some decor is missing from the property.) - Wifi is EXTREMELY slow (essentially unusable) + no cell service. I’ve stayed in many hotels in the city and have never had an issue with cell service. All in all, I could have gotten a better experience elsewhere. Responding to these TripAdvisor comments is great, but this hotel is extremely flawed and needs a lot of work. I’m floored seeing a similarity in complaints that date back a while. I wish I could say I would try this hotel again, but I know that there are better places to stay in the city. Funny thing is, people were raving about this hotel when it first opened. Read less

Their sincerity, sense of humor, and high level of hospitality made for such a pleasant stay; they reminded me how good vibes and positive energy are contagious and so very much needed in our day to day and in life, in general. Location is in the heart of Nomad, an easy walk up and down Park Ave or 5th Ave depending on where you need to go. Room was spacious for nyc, bathroom and showers were clean, AC was awesome, bed was comfy, and interior design was unique and artsy. Access to public transit was easy to get around the city. Huge shoutout to Julia, Gabe, Justin, Lee, and especially Hosam! Thank you for being you! Thank you for making my weekend that much more special. Y’all are the best! Xo. Read less
