Radio City Apartments

Midtown, New York

The hotel

You’ve seen them do it in the movies, but now you can experience New York living for yourself – walking below the bulb-lit canopy to enter your apartment block, a friendly nod from the front desk, before you hop into the elevator and ride up to your pied-a-terre. But this is New York living on a different scale – as Radio City Apartments is right in Midtown Manhattan, just moments from its namesake, Radio City Music Hall. It comes with all those home comforts you’d expect if you lived here, like complimentary WiFi and a kitchenette with a microwave, hob, fridge, and coffee maker – and those come as standard whether you’re picking a two bedroom pad or a studio. And the location’s the same for every apartment too – just steps from sights like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Fifth Avenue.

We check out tomorrow, December 14th, 2021. Since we checked in on Friday the 10th we have complained about the room’s #208, lack of heat and our tvs’s remote! We just returned tonight, December 13th from dinner a day before we check out and the heat seems to be finally working properly. And during our 4 days, the day time temperature has been unseasonably warm, up to 60 on Saturday. Now to the tv remote, the maintenance person can to our room on our first day, the 10th and aiming the remote at the tv he was able to control the volume and the off and on of the tv, he was capable of completing those functions. Of course that is both handled by the tv itself. We asked for replacement batteries for the remote, 2 triple A batteries. Nope, never replaced. The cable box is hung on the back of the tv and requires RF signal provided by good batteries!!! Not the weak ones we have in our room 208 tv remote! My review would have been much higher since the property is located near to most NYC attractions and the rooms offer a kitchenette. But since the “attention to detail is very poor” I will stick with a rating of mediocre, 3 stars! Read less

However, the rooms were clean; the location was very centrally located to walking, theater, subway, etc. We appreciated having the coffee maker and refrigerator and microwave in our room. My daughter and I stayed in a double deluxe, and we had enough room to leave one suitcase open. The other we closed up and kept in a corner. It felt like plenty of room. My mom stayed in a queen, and that layout was even more comfortable. The hotel was pleasant in accommodating our request for a late check-out for one of our two rooms. Finally, this hotel was an excellent location for us to view the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. It was a half a block walk to the parade route. (Parade went past on 6th Ave at 49th St.) We got there at 6:30 am and got a great spot, but we were still close enough to take turns going back to the hotel for bathroom breaks. The hotel itself was also pretty quiet for New York. There was some street noise but not as bad as I’ve experienced elsewhere. Read less

Worst hotel experience I’ve had in 30 years and the front desk could care less. The day I checked in I smelled natural gas in my room, I thought perhaps it was coming from the outside so dropped my things off and left for the day. Came back to change and the smell was still there. Left a few minutes later for a show and came back to smell it in the hallway. Called the front desk and maintenance came and turned the stove off. They couldn’t smell the gas. I asked to change rooms and the front desk said it was too late in the day to do that. He said someone will come up and show me how to open the window.! I packed up my things and went to the front desk and got a key to another room. That room did not smell like gas so I slept there. I should’ve packed up and left the hotel. Day 2 - Went to take a shower, took 10 minutes to get lukewarm. Front desk said they would fix it. The solution, let it run longer to heat up. Day 3 - Went to heat up water in the kettle for tea, it was filled with mold - replaced with an insincere apology Day 4 - The room was so hot and there was no way to turn the radiator off. Called the front desk at 5am “he’ll show you how to do it.” The controls were behind the fridge (half the radiator is covered by the fridge) and the way to to adjust the temp is to pull the entire fridge out to get behind it. Called the front desk back to tell him guests cannot be expected to do this. He didn’t care, “call the manager on Monday.” We stayed here because some people we know with very discerning taste have stayed here multiple times (pre COVID). Looks like this is another business that has gone downhill significantly. I tried hard to be patient due to all the problems the pandemic has brought to the hospitality industry. But if the room is too hot (or filled with noxious fumes), the shower too cold, the teapot too moldy, and a front desk clerk who is completely unsympathetic… it’s time to sell to a new owner or close down. This is literally the worst hotel experience I’d had in my life. But that night at 1:44 am, someone literally OPENED MY DOOR and try to walk in!! Thankfully I had the chain latched, and I screamed out. The man said he was maintenance and was sent to clean the room (at 1:45 am?!?) he then started saying that I’m not in the computer and I need to come out and go downstairs. I said I’m not going downstairs, so I called the front desk, who was like oh but the room was unoccupied earlier. No apologies nothing! I don’t know if they were trying to get me out of the room so they can bulgrarize the room, or saw a single female checking in. But of course I stayed up all night and as soon as I could go back into my office, I checked out, and now disputing the charge. Read less
