Westin Resort & Spa Whistler

Whistler, Canada

The hotel

When they created The Westin Resort & Spa in Whistler, they made sure it featured all those rustic stone walls, lodge-befitting wood highlights, and roaring fires every good mountain escape should have. After all, it is set in Canada’s peak outdoor recreation resort, named number one ski resort in North America by SKI Magazine in 2016. Steps from the gondolas and Whistler Village’s heart, its guestrooms feature fireplaces to snuggle around after al fresco adventures, and windows to bring that mountain air in. When you’ve made the most of the mountains, there’s always its Avello Spa & Health Club, gym, hot tubs, and outdoor pool. Not forgetting its dining venues: Grill & Wine, an upmarket take on a grill restaurant, and FireRock Lounge, a cross between a tapas bar and après-ski snug, promising another of those obligatory fireplaces.

The subject says it all - The Westin Whistler consistently proves comfortable rooms at a decent price perfectly located. (Steps to the lifts but back from the village square noise.) Service was excellent from check in to queries to (very importantly) getting a ride to distant restaurants. (Well "distant" in Whistler terms...) We will be back.

Booked 2 normal suites for a 6N family ski holiday. The Westin is one of the pricier hotels in Whistler, but I must say it was worth the splurge! The Westin’s location is unbeatable. It was ~150m from the Gondola and minutes from shops and restaurants. As a platinum, we were upgraded to a 1BR suite which connected to another standard suite. The combined spaced was sufficiently large for the entire family. Each room came with a full kitchen: oven, microwave, 1/2 size fridge, dishwasher, pots and pans. Great for whipping a quick breakfast or warming up evening meals. The rooms were very clean and free from pet fur (this is a pet-friendly hotel). Housekeeping occurred every 3rd day which was a bummer. There was a $2 coin operated washer and drier on each floor, although the drier on the 8th floor was busted for the entire duration of our stay. As a Plat, I received breakfast vouchers for 2 persons per day entitling us to the buffet spread. It was a large spread comprising hot and cold items but remained largely the same for the entire stay duration. Bookings were essential at dinnertime in the restaurant due to limited capacity arising from Covid social distancing. We rented skis / snowboards at CanSki located within the hotel. The skis had to be stored overnight in the Valet which was complimentary because we rented from CanSki @ Westin and we stayed in 1 BR suite or higher. Apparently the Westin Valet sets up a tent at the foot of the mountain for guests to return their skis between 2-4pm after a day of skiing but we only saw them in operation on 2 days. All the associates that we interacted with were courteous and helpful. We’re happy to note that the hotel took Covid safety protocols seriously with vaccination verification at food outlets, safe distancing visual reminders, sanitizers, but I wish they would be more proactive when reminding guests to mask up or to wear them properly. Will return. Read less

3 families, 2 rooms (connecting). We had a good deal with our stay. Our room has a great view. Family friendly hotel. Place is accessible to gondolas, and restaurants. The hotel is perfect for those who have winter activities in their itinerary as it is walking distance to almost everything.

Enjoyed a long weekend at the Westin. Stayed here many times and have enjoyed it every time. Good location, good food, comfortable rooms and many room styles to choose from. Pool area is not very big.

We normally stay at the pan pacific mountainside and can’t help compare the westin. We wanted to try something different and here are my personal opinions when comparing the two experiences. We stayed at the pan pacific mountainside Jan 1-4, then moved to westin Jan 4-6. The pros: updated room, impressive lobby, nice take out coffee shop, amazing bed, helpful and friendly staff when dropping off skis at end of the day was awesome. The cons: pool too crowded for us, too much chlorine in the hot tub irritated my eyes , ski valet wait to pick up skis in the morning too long (miss lockers at mountain side), charge for ski valet for regular rooms is annoying (ski lockers are included at the pan pacific mountainside), charge for internet if not marriot bonvoy member could be frustrating $15/day (internet included at pan pacific), no hooks in room to hang ski gear. Location wise both are equal. Just a couple of differences that I wish I knew for my family before I booked. Nice place but just be aware before you book. Read less
