Westin Resort & Spa Whistler

Whistler, Canada

Virgin rating

The hotel

When they created The Westin Resort & Spa in Whistler, they made sure it featured all those rustic stone walls, lodge-befitting wood highlights, and roaring fires every good mountain escape should have. After all, it is set in Canada’s peak outdoor recreation resort, named number one ski resort in North America by SKI Magazine in 2016. Steps from the gondolas and Whistler Village’s heart, its guestrooms feature fireplaces to snuggle around after al fresco adventures, and windows to bring that mountain air in. When you’ve made the most of the mountains, there’s always its Avello Spa & Health Club, gym, hot tubs, and outdoor pool. Not forgetting its dining venues: Grill & Wine, an upmarket take on a grill restaurant, and FireRock Lounge, a cross between a tapas bar and après-ski snug, promising another of those obligatory fireplaces.

Went by concierge approx 10 x and saw someone there once. I really needed a pin for my shirt and no one could help. Went to front desk and they told me to go to concierge. Stem in health club wasn’t working and looked for help but not a single staff member in gym, pool, hot tub area etc. seemed insecure and unsafe. Bed was comfortable even though we had to make it ourselves night 2. Read less

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a 12 night break in Western Canada. We drove up from Vancouver and self parked in the underground car park, which can also be used by non residents. It is a little confusing as the lifts at the far end of the car park take you to other parking levels or the shopping area linked to the hotel, but not directly to the hotel lobby, so you have to the get another lift or use the stairs to go back down a flight. However, the lifts at the front end of the car park will take you direct to the lobby. We went the long way round with help from a staff member! Register the car on check in and pay on check out. Check in was smooth and staff pleasant and helpful. We had a pleasant suite, fully equipped and clean. We had food and drinks in the bar on 2 nights (the restaurant had corporate events on those nights so there was no option to have food in the restaurant). Quality was excellent, and as service was a little slow one of the nights we had one of the main courses free without us asking, proving the staff to be very customer orientated. Breakfast in the restaurant one morning was good, and on the other 3 days we used their take away service for coffee, pastries, etc. Weather wasn't great but we managed to use the outdoor pool one afternoon. Again, everything was well organised. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from all the village attractions and the numerous restaurants/coffee shops/bars. We would be happy to stay here again. This was a good size, with a separate bedroom, combined lounge/dining area and a good kitchen area. This was well equipped with oven, large fridge and microwave. The bathroom was also a good size with separate bath and walk-in shower. There was a very small balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that the room wasn’t as clean as it should have been. There was quite a bit of dust on surfaces in the bedroom, a cigarette butt on the balcony and rubbish in the corridor outside our room. It seemed that housekeeping was either inexperienced or rushed. The other issue was the air con didn’t work, but given it was May, it wasn’t a big problem and we just opened the windows and balcony door. Read less

The hotel also provided a ski drop off at the bottom of the mountain so you did not have to carry them and placed them in a secure storage room. We ate breakfast in the hotel on two occasions which was delicious! Staff were very friendly and helpful. There were a couple of negatives being that our room was not cleaned every day and upon checkout one of our parties bags were removed from their room and left open and unattended outside the hotel. Check in with Noah was quick and friendly. We felt welcome. Housekeeping went above and beyond during our stay, paying a delicate attention to our needs promptly. Valet staffs are very friendly and helpful. Pool attendants are attentive and constantly cleaning the area. The gym is spotless and I enjoyed the functionality of the equipments available. Special thank you to Mr. Aitchison to make our trip flawless and making us feel so welcome at the Westin Whistler Room service staff were fantastic; however, Im not a huge fan of the paper bag delivery. I think going back to plates is something to consider. The food and drinks at the restaurant and lounge were really good, with excellent service. I have many other great things to say about the Westin, but is limited on here. Feel free to contact me. Customer Service at the Hotel has taken a major positive steps up from our prior stay and we sincerely appreciated it. Highly recommend anyone to stay here. Read less
