Centara Mirage Beach Resort Dubai

The hotel

This is the first of the Centara resorts in the UAE, and they’ve pulled out all the stops to create the ultimate family themed family resort to make your dream holiday come true. Inspired by mythical Thai and magical Arabian adventures, everything has been taken into consideration when it comes to suiting family trips, with interconnecting rooms and bunk beds available for all family sizes, and there’s even a childrens spa to sit alongside the adults one, so they can have their fair share of pampering too – after all, it’s tiring going down the water slides all day long! If you want to add that extra touch to your stay, upgrade to a Mirage room for access to the Family club lounge, complete with family-friendly check-in and a kids’ play area. It will be hard to pull them away from the adventure water park for food though, complete with water slides, high ropes, and a lazy river – it’s unlikely you’ll see much of them in the day, especially with the E-zone too. If this is the case, sneak away to the rooftop bar and enjoy a sundowner cocktail or a spot of shisha before dinner, overlooking the Arabian gulf.

We are a family of 5: Myself, my husband, our 9-year old twin boys and the nanny. It is worth mentioning that one of our sons is in the (Autism) spectrum since part of our experience is related to this. Check-in was excellent. Sharmila welcomed us as if we were friends who have not seen each other for a long time. She was genuinely interested that it was our first time at the hotel and she even took the time to chat with my sons. Walking at the lobby, going to our room, almost every staff we came across greeted us with friendly smiles. Other female staff who were amazing were Sophia, Minnie and my personal favorite, Pancake who is assigned at the cafe in the lobby. Do look for her when you go there! Lifeguards Moses and Kingsley were friendly and attentive. They were cheerful and happy to assist the kids to ensure that they are enjoying, are safe and having fun. Special Needs parents be aware: Not all of the lifeguards are like Moses and Kingsley. We had, unfortunately, an untoward incident with one of the lifeguards assigned in the kiddie slides. He was obviously in a foul mood when we arrived and looked unhappy. I witnessed him grab my autistic son by the forearm and dragged him roughly out of the pool after my son took the slides and got confused what he had to do next after sliding. We raised this promptly to the hotel and are thankful that Chery and Brett addressed the issue and took the time to discuss it with us and ensure that this does not happen again. Since we booked a Mirage room, we had our breakfast at the Mirage Family Lounge and we loved it! The lounge has an assortment of good food and the kids enjoyed the play area while my husband and I sipped our coffee. As for their pools, the lazy river was great for the whole family to pass the time. They also have a family pool and we felt safe in it because the depth of the pool is just right for our 9-year olds. There were other pools that we were not able to try since our kids enjoyed the lazy river and family pool so much, they did not want to leave! Also, it is 100% true that the hotel is spic and span - from the lobby, to the rooms and even at the lounges. Indeed, Centara lives up to its reputation as one of the better family hotels in Dubai. We intend to stay there again and hope that our special needs son will be treated better. Read less

We booked this holiday just 1 week in advance via Gemma at Travelbag so we didn’t have much time to research/ prepare for such a big trip. We travelled as a family of 5- children’s ages 10, 12 and 13. We arrived after a slightly delayed flight so 11pm. Usually, food has stopped by this time so it’s tough- Not here! We were advised that we can use room service as part of the all inclusive which was amazing. Food was wonderful and a high standard, plenty of choice. Rarely had to wait to be seated. All the staff were efficient and polite (unlike some of the guests towards them!). We ate in the varied restaurants without having to book in advance. The pools were great fun. The water slides were geared to younger kids so my 3 didn’t use them however, they had the lazy river, sea and Inflatable pool so no issues. Hotel was clean and maintained well We had an interconnecting room which was great as the kids had plenty of space to sleep in one room whilst my husband and I shared the other room- having our own space whilst ensuring the children were ok. My husband thought the noise of the airplanes was too much but I didn’t mind and he got used to it. The other big bonus for us was that the food was pretty much available all day every day. This meant that even if we went out later/ all day, we were able to eat before and after without worrying that we had missed a meal so have to eat out. We never managed to get a sun lounger by the pools despite the hotels apparent “no Towel reservation” policy however, always found a spot on the beach- a shame when guests plonk their towels down and don’t return most of the day. Again, this is a reflection on the guests rather than the hotel. Overall, we had a wonderful holiday and would recommend this hotel. I have added a list of what we did when below as I would have found it useful knowing which landmarks were near each other. I would deffo suggest all inclusive as in general, it is quite expensive Day 1 (pm)- Burj Khalifa tour, Dubai fountains and light show (highly recommend) Day 2- Wild Wadi waterpark- expensive but the kids loved it. The all inclusive food option was limited but a good saving overall Day 3- view of the palm followed by party on a private yacht- highly recommended Day 4- museum of the future and Dubai frame (I didn’t particularly enjoy either of them as by this point had seen the view a few times).
