Stayed here for 7 days as part of a 3 location trip to Malaysia. Hotel is situated at the top of Feringgi beach and was a short walk into the resort. We had booked a superior room in the Rasa wing and we were fortunate to be allocated a room with a balcony overlooking the gardens. Room was immaculately clean and modern. Grounds were immaculate and well kept and gave direct access to the beach. Staff, location, food, services are all absolutely fantastic, there is nothing I can fault. The Rasa wing pool is an oasis of peace and quiet and the pool staff look after all guests superbly. Afternoon tea at 3 is really lovely, this is followed by drinks and canopies at 5.30. Some evenings we didn't need to have a meal out as the food at 5.30 is so good and so tempting. I could sit and write lines and lines on this hotel but it's not necessary, the hotel is simply wonderful and I would book another stay here in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a classy, well managed and beautiful hotel in this area you should go ahead and book the Shangri La Rasa Sayang - you will not regret it! Staying here makes you see how good a stay should be. Read less

When we stayed the hotel was a full capacity which made breakfast very busy so we had to wait for 2-3 mins before being seated which was not a big issue for us. There was plenty of choice, catering to both local and international tastes. The pool areas had plenty of beds which were very comfortable. Only criticism I have is of the noise in between the rooms. We booked one room but was placed in a room that had an adjoining door to the next room. Even though the door remained shut and locked we could hear their conversations and even phone alarm from the room. They were not even being loud, the noise insulation needs to be looked at. There is no way the hotel will redeem itself but in the 2 days we have been here our experience has not been what people here are describing. The breakfast is what annoyed us the most and it was what made me write the review while still being in the hotel. It is unacceptable to form lines while tables are empty. It is also unacceptable to run out of simple things like nutella while the guy at the pancake station was hogging it and giving barely enough to cover half of one. The staff obviously cannot handle too many people and it is kind of laughable that before even the breakfast ends you can actually run out of some stuff - and especially things that they don’t even have to make themselves. That is a very far cry from 5 stars. We asked for housekeeping to come late as we were in the room when they first arrived. When we came back it was obvious they had not cleaned anything. The room still had that very little amount of sand we brought in with our sandals, the bed sheets needed changing but were not changed and the amenities like Q-tips were not refilled. Now lets talk about the terrible food they serve at the bar/restaurant by the beach but you know what, don’t take my word for it, read the mediocre reviews it has gathered one after the other. Remove the Shangri-La name and this hotel is miles below the others that bear its name. I guess because it is cheaper than the other Shangri-La hotels I have been to, I should expect different standards. This has been noted and I will probably not choose this chain or recommend it in the future - except from the ones I have already been to and were good. I will stick to hotels that keep the same standards everywhere. For the price? Yeah it is a good hotel. But if you come here expecting the usual Shangri-La you may have visited in other countries, you will be disappointed. At least the hotel has obviously been renovated at some point before, that is something. Read less

Room wasn't ready upon check-in, the check-in staff was kind to guide us to our room and explained about the feature of the room, which has the annoying alarm feature. Gym and pool was just about right. I had a relaxing time enjoying their facility. I'd love to come back to this hotel again. Read less

i spent a week here in the Rasa Wing. The service in the hotel and pool area is very good but the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Our troubles started when our bathroom sink leaked. We reported this and it was repaired. A couple of days later it happened again and it was again repaired. When the leak occurred again we were told they would allocate another room. This was reported early in the morning and we were told we could move at 2pm. So we packed up our room and went to reception to get the new room. We were told the room was not ready. By this stage they had turned off the water in our original room so we were unable to do anything but wait. I visited reception on 2 occasions at 3pm and 4pm and still no room. Finally at 5.30pm we were given a new room which was identical to our previous room on a higher floor. When we entered the room we noticed that the bench which houses the television was covered in a dirty film with childrens hand marks along the bench. This was reported to reception and nothing was done. When we checked out 2 days later the stain was still there. Lots of apologies were offered but no compensation whatsoever was provided to us. Given that we lost most of the day and time dealing with the other leaks and did not have access to the amenities of the room for most of the day we were most disappointed. Upon checkout I asked what compensation we would be offered. The staff member told me that her manager was not available and she would get back to me. Two days later I was offered a one category room upgrade, subject to avaialbity on my next visit. A hotel that does not maintain rooms and fails to maintain basic cleanliness standards, especially when they are pointed out does deserve my future business. I have stayed at several Shangri La properties and this one needs to be refurbished. Even my replacement room had a loose shower head fitting and was missing a cover on the bathroom drain. The rooms look dated and there is considerable wear and tear visible on the room hardware and furniture. Why would anyone return to a hotel that charges $385 a night yet fails to deliver basics such as water, maintenance and cleaning. To be fair the public areas and grounds are well maintained and the staff are very good. As for the compensation offered I think any fair minded person would would be incredulous that the offer to rectify the situation involves the customer staying again and then the compensation being subject to availability.
