The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

My wife and I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the sea and Golden Gate Bridge. It was for our honeymoon. And it was absolutely perfect. The room was wonderful and well kept. We took a room with a view of the sea, which also had a view of the bridge, and the start point turn table for the cable car, which was great to have on our doorstep. Everything we needed was on our doorstep, and right in the hotel is a fantastic restaurant and a wine tasting bar! Which we took full advantage of. We walked, cable car’d and UBER’d our way around San Francisco from here, it felt rather like we were in the perfect spot for our honeymoon. We plan to come back sometime in the future… same room if possible! 11/10 for the hotel and lovely helpful staff. Read less

We stayed one night after our long transatlantic flight and liked everything about it so much we re arranged our trip to spend our last night in california there. The hotel has a perfect location right beside the beach and we loved to walk along the shore and watch the swimmers and boats. The staff were fabulous at helping me re book our second night and, as it was my birthday they had put a card and wine in the room for me when we arrived- so unexpected and just a lovely touch! The staff called when the room was ready ( before the official check-in time), the car was parked for us and delivered to us when we needed to leave, the bar outside with fires burning was a great place for excellent cocktails! And we had a really excellent dinner in the blue mermaid to celebrate my birthday. The room was simple and spacious and the way it has been renovated from an old building was very clever and I really liked the nautical theme throughout. The bed was huge and very comfortable. I absolutely loved staying at the Argonaut. On our last morning, while we had a lovely breakfast, Tenzin printed out our boarding passes, super efficient and extremely professional person. He couldn't have been more helpful. All the staff in the restaurant were similarly attentive and really friendly to us. Thank you for a great stay. I would love to be able to return one day. If you are heading to San Francisco we would highly recommend this hotel ...such a treat! Read less

The suite was impressively spacious, included a dining area, living space, bed area, and a jacuzzi with a breathtaking view of the bay. With our reservation including food credits, every aspect of our stay felt worth it and the hotel's location couldn't have been better, placing us conveniently close to everything we wanted to experience. A special mention goes to Stephanie at the front desk, whose warm welcome and thoughtful gesture of wine, chocolates, and birthday cards made our stay even more memorable. Thank you for the enthusiastic service, it truly made our celebration unforgettable. We hope to come again next year. Read less

Large rooms with excellent views of the Bay. Wonderful service too! We stayed five days and had a large suite (950 sq ft). More than enough garage for us and our kids plus a large dining table which made meals and games fun. The hotel staff was very responsive with waters, room fixes, meals and parking service. Would definitely stay here again.

I travel a lot for work and this staff was far and away the kindest and most accommodating of any hotel I've ever stayed at. Even before my injury this was already apparent to me. They have a phenomenal restaurant, interesting events, awesome and friendly people. Not to mention a phenomenal location and comfortable accommodations. My first time in San Francisco, and on my second day, after my business was concluded, I took a scenic bike ride to Marin County and back. A word of advice if you do the same and it starts raining--probably best to pack it up and call an uber! I took a spill from the bike and broke my femur, and had to go to the hospital. Veronica was awesome for gathering my things for me, and Irfan was a saint to bring some essentials for me himself, visiting me in the hospital and bringing a to-go meal from the Blue Mermaid. He also got me an ADA accessible room so that I had somewhere to stay before my return flight, once I was released from the hospital. I also have to mention Javier, who was incredibly sweet, always going the extra mile helping me with my bags, pushing my wheelchair, and even helped me put my shoes on when it was time to leave and the pain was too great. It was a truly humbling ordeal in an unfamiliar city, but they made sure that I never felt alone. Thank you to everyone at the Argonaut for making my stay as lovely as possible despite the circumstances! Read less
