For our first trip to the Big Island we decided to stay here for 6 nights. When our room wasn’t ready we were able to check in our luggage and it was brought to our room once it was ready. We luckily got to stay in the Makai Tower. Highly recommend this tower since the activities, pool, spa, restaurants are here and a self parking entrance. The room itself was nice and the shower head/pressure was good. This is rare, it is always bad in my experience. We did not utilize the pool much as it was overcrowded, chaotic, and people hoarded chairs with their towels so no one else could get one, ever. The cafes all closed by 4 which was very inconvenient. Only the Italian restaurant and Kona Bar was open past that. Food is outrageously expensive and the location of the property is about 20 mins from Kona, 1.5 from Hilo so you are stuck eating there or driving a few mins within the resort to the King’s and Queen’s Shops that have some eats, stores. We frequented the Island Gourmet Market for breakfast but that was mediocre. Luckily there was a Starbucks so I went there alot too. The laundry facilities were non-existent. Machines were broken. The only other ones were in a tower across the resort, a maze to get too only for out key NOT work. Resort itself is nice, but I think I would stay in Kona for a few days and Hilo for a few for this to be ideal. Waikoloa is a bit of a drive if venturing around the island like we did. Hapuna Beach was nearby and our fav beach here. Read less

The hotel is terrible! We did not get the room we reserved and paid for. The room we did get was filthy dirty, and had dirty sheets on the bed. It took us a full day just to get clean towels, and never did get room service to replace the sheets or empty the trash. The hotel told us to simply put the trash out side the door. I would highly recommend you avoid this resort at all costs. Read less

We arrived late in the evening and were only staying for one night on the island. This trip is for our honeymoon. Check in was excellent, front desk staff and tram operators were so helpful. But then it went off the rails. The valet attendant asked if we wanted to have our bags brought up to our room, I normally would say no but decided because it was late I’d take advantage of it. It was the WORST decision I have ever made. After we called to retrieve the bags once we got to our room it took awhile and they called back to say, “There are bugs coming from your bags. So we will bring them up and you can check them outside your room. We will also grab the rental car and see if it came from the car.” When we left them OUTSIDE on the sidewalk there was nothing wrong with them. They bring them upstairs and there’s still nothing wrong with them, no bugs. They get the car, nothing in the car. All of this was extremely upsetting and entirely ruined our ONE night here. The management staff was extremely dismissive and unkind when I called back upset about the issue. Frankly, whoever reported this was mistaken, they caused undue stress and panic for something that was simply NOT TRUE. I will not be returning and will not ever recommend this resort to someone else. I cannot trust the staff here. Read less

Rest close at 4pm . No Starbucks on site , but there are other coffee shops which close around 3 i believe so no coffee after 3 Food is expensive but thats expected Long walk to everything or take slow moving tram . Feels like a fancy resort in Florida except for the strange tram-like thing that goes between the hotels. It’s dirty and stuffy and feels like you’re in a subway in Tokyo. If you’re going to have a tram in an island resort then make it fun and tropical! Very strange.
