Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa

Palm Springs, California

Virgin rating

The hotel

An oasis in the desert, you’ll find a huge range of things to keep you busy among the Hyatt Regency's 45-acres of perfectly manicured gardens. There’s seven different pools to cool off in, as well as a spa for a little more indulgence. If you’re a golfer, pick from two courses – and a pro can help iron out any kinks in your swing. Travelling with young ones? There are some great kids activities going on, as well as a family pool with a water slide. Maybe something more tranquil? The adults-only pool may be more your style – and maybe a cocktail by the pool at sunset followed by a tender steak.

This is a lovely hotel with wonderful staff. We stayed here for Coachella, and every single staff member had a smile on their face. While it's not the hotel's responsibility, the transportation to and from the festival was easy and well run around the clock. However, unfortunately, the hotel has leaned too hard into a combination of texting and phone systems. From our room, you could not dial an outside line. Selecting the "8" for an ony line gave a "The number you have dialed is not in service" message. To reach the front desk, you have to first go through an AI system, which wants to know your problem. The front desk could not then connect to an outside line. Similarly, a text system appeared to be asking questions like "What time will you arrive?" When we arrived, the front desk had not received that information. We received a text when we were at the pool that our room had a "do not disturb" sign on the door and could they please service it; we had removed it at least an hour before. Bottom line: if you encounter a human being, you will be delighted with the help, but don't let your phone get pickpocketed or you will be unable to reach the outside world. Read less

The hotel is indeed in a beautiful location, and the facilities, rooms and environment are much improved as new wings open up. But be warned the hotel is still in full construction mode (as of April 2024) that include accompanying noise (jackhammers, drills, etc) in full operation during daylight hours. Don't think you'll be able to take a nap during the day! And the normal lobby bar and restaurant have been relegated to the forgotten 2nd floor...Not ideal for a cherished family vacation spot. I wish the hotel made up for this inconvenience by paying extra attention to customer service, but alas, our experience at the pool and during check out were sub optimal. During Spring Break, the hotel clearly didn't staff up adequately to handle the rush in the pool area, with food/drink orders taking forever and then running out of towels (frustrating!). Then the construction-related discount offer at check in didn't get carried over to check out, which caused more frustration and underscored the lack of efficiency/communication within the hotel. In sum, I'd recommend waiting for the construction to wrap up before putting the hotel on your destination list for a family vacation. By then, I'd hope the customer service focus is restored too. The hotel is undergoing renovations, which hampers dining options and the hotel is not prepared for this resulting in a two hour wait for dinner for us. Given the room rate, I would suggest reconsidering booking here until the restaurant renovation is complete or they deal with their F&B technical issues. I was traveling with 2 small children and it took two hours to get dinner. I didn’t want to dine in a conference room doubling as a hotel bar full of televisions and so opted for room service. The problem is you have to order through an app which doesn’t show the kids menu. You are then directed to call them, and get an automated voice that can’t help and directs you to a voicemail box, which wasn’t returned. I then contacted someone through text message and ordered but only part of the order was delivered. When I alerted them they redid the rest of the order but said they knocked and I didn’t answer the door, which surprised me, but they could not call me because their phone system was down and so just left me without the rest of the order until I kept following up. I understand hotels need to renovate but this is failure after failure: - No restaurant - A mobile ordering system that doesn’t work - A machine phone service that can’t help - A room without a door bell to alert guests - A phone system that is broken to alert you of your failed delivery This is a beautiful resort with exceptional water facilities, making it ideal for a family vacation with a lazy river, many pools, waterslides, nightly smores and outdoor games. Saying that, I would recommend waiting until their renovation and IT issues are resolved before making the considerable expense of staying here. Read less

Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa: The Good: - Amazing Pools: The highlight of the resort! Perfect temperature and the lazy river was a blast (spent 1.5 hours there!). - Great Staff: Friendly and attentive, valet staff was excellent even though we didn't use them. - Spacious Room: Discoverist upgrade wasn't quite an upgrade, but large enough for our family - Comfy Amenities: High-quality hangers, strong enough water pressure with multiple shower settings, and a good-sized bathtub. - Cleanliness: Room clean enough upon arrival. - Balmain Bath Amenities: Pleasant, light scent. Areas for Improvement: - Décor: A bit dated, could use a refresh. - Unclear Upgrade: staff told us that we were upgraded, but upon checking the available rooms for that day, didn't seem that we got one.. - Missing Amenities: No toothbrush, toothpaste, or razor provided (although some Hyatt Regencies charge extra). - Maintenance Issues: Ceiling fan malfunction and empty soda can on patio. Room still smells like fresh paint. For those who sensitive to smell, may get you nauseous. - Housekeeping Oversight: Sticker found under sofa bed and missing linens for the sofa bed. - Thin Walls: Renovation noise started early (around 8am). - Limited Toiletries: Only bar soap provided, no liquid hand soap. Overall: Despite a few shortcomings, we had a fun stay at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells! The amazing pools and friendly staff made it a great place for a family vacation. We would definitely return for another stay. Read less

The hotel is undergoing renovations and is in complete disarray. I would stay away from this hotel until the renovations are complete! The issue is that the furniture is completely being overhauled and does not look anything like the pictures on the website. I booked this hotel specifically because there was a room with a king bed and pullout couch and an executive desk so that my husband and I would have some space to sit and work throughout our stay. When we got into our room it looked like someone had stolen all the furniture. Not only was there not a pull out couch but they replaced the sitting area with an uncomfortable bench and a tiny table. I think a lot of people booked for the same reason and the front desk was not equipped to handle it. When I went down to the front desk to change my room several other people were complaining about the same issue and it took several hours to get a room change. The room they finally put me in had an issue with the air conditioner where it wouldn't turn on unless the temp was higher than it was set then it would kick on extremely loudly. This happened every 3 hours or so and woke us up every time throughout the night. Thankfully I booked this with Hyatt points and was issued a full refund but it didn't really make up for the fact that the hotel experience was ruined and I didn't get a good night of sleep. For the price they are charging stay far away until the renovation is completely done! There are plenty of other fantastic resorts in the Palm Springs area that are actually worth the money Read less
