Anse Chastanet Resort

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

This romantic 600-acre hillside hideaway is a unique resort in harmony with its lush, natural environment. The 'get-away-from-it-all' philosophy means that rooms have no TV or radio — instead, you admire the spectacular scenery from the beachside rooms or sea views from the treehouse-style rooms further up the flower-decked hillside! How much you get up to on this holiday is up to you. There are many activities on offer here, from non-motorised water sports to walking the many miles of estate trails, jungle biking and birdwatching, snorkeling and scuba diving. For the less actively inclined, simply do nothing, lie on the beach or enjoy one of the therapeutic body and beauty treatments. The resort operates its own organic farm and chocolate laboratory making chocolate from their own estate beans. Guests are welcome! Dining choices include Caribbean fine dining in the Treehouse, East Indian-St Lucia fusion at beach level, and Emeralds, a vegan restaurant. Due to the secluded location of this resort, we are selling it on an All Inclusive basis so you can truly experience the fine dining and facilities it has to offer.

The excellent service from this resort began even before we arrived, with my husband swapping e-mails with the front desk, ensuring that they could tailor our holiday as much as possible to meet our requirements and relax as soon as we arrived. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Anse Chastanet (AC) over Christmas and New Year. We came back thoroughly relaxed and very brown. We had to book AC at relatively short notice as the resort we had originally reserved had to close due to Covid-19. However, this is by no means a “second choice” resort – just the opposite. We stayed for 14 nights and were very lucky to get the room we requested (Premium Hillside 7E). We revised our room choice 3 times after studying previous reviews, photos, and the hotel website, and are very glad we did – this is an amazing room, and the resort was very accommodating with our requests for change. This room is situated right at the top of the resort and has no closed walls so we were able to enjoy not only the beautiful views (The Pitons on one side and the resort and the Caribbean on the other) but also the breeze coming through (therefore no need for air conditioning) as well as the birds visiting us every morning whilst we enjoyed a cuppa on the expansive veranda. There is plenty to do, both on land and sea, so you can be as active or relaxed as you like. My husband took full advantage of the mountain bikes at Bike St Lucia and hiking trails in the extensive resort grounds and came back with some great photos. The highlight was him climbing Gros Piton for the second time (first time was 9 years ago when we stayed at the Rendezvous). He also enjoyed kayaking and snorkelling. The snorkelling off the beach was excellent, proved by the number of visiting boats with snorkellers from other resorts. We enjoyed going on the beach every day and although we had to go down 380 steps to get to it and 380 back up to our room, this did not stop us from doing so! (there is a shuttle service from room to beach and vice versa so don’t let the steps put you off getting a room high up). The steps helped burn off some of the extra calories put on from the extra food and drink, so had an additional benefit! The beach service was fantastic and we were kept regularly supplied with drinks (and food when required). Just plant a yellow flag in the sand and someone is there to take your order within minutes. It got to the stage where some of the servers pre-empted our flag and asked us if we wanted “the usual”. In the evening, we enjoyed eating at either Trou Au Diable (Beach Grill), Apsara (East Indian Caribbean Fusion) or Treehouse (Caribbean Fine Dining). The menus do not change so when staying for 14 nights, it is nice to have the option of more than one place to eat. Apsara was definitely our favourite menu and we were lucky enough to meet the Chef and compliment him on his food. All restaurants maintained a high standard of food and service. It’s worth mentioning that we were on the All Inclusive plan, which I think is definitely worth paying for the variety (and quantity) of food and drink on offer. It was amazing how the resort was able to offer such extensive choice with the Covid restrictions we’re currently living through. The resort deserves huge praise for the manner in which they applied the restrictions, which was not intrusive, but made us feel as we were in an extremely safe environment, but took nothing away from our holiday experience. All the staff led by example, and politely reminded any guest who forgot any of the protocols. Another experience, which is a must, is a visit up the hill (or round the corner for us) to AC’s exclusive sister resort – Jade Mountain. Just to have a look round somewhere that looks as if it has come out of a James Bond movie, or to have lunch or dinner with even more stunning views. We had dinner there, which was excellent and well worth the $50 each surcharge on top of our AI rate. (A drink at their bar is included in the AC AI rate) The entertainment there was also of very high quality. All the staff were very friendly and attentive throughout our stay, engaging in conversation and always quick with a greeting (from the groundsman to the Manager). We could not fault any of them. This is our third visit to Anse Chastanet so I should say up front that I’m a big fan but this visit exceeded all expectations. A nail biting time in the run up to our trip with private tests and rapid tier changes in the U.K. made for a highly anticipated trip. BIG THANKS to Sue in reservations who was endlessly patient. courteous and efficient as we brought our dates forward not once but twice to avoid getting locked out of travelling. Once here we were blown away by the room high up on the hill with a view over the sea, a SWING in the room, 4th wall missing and an enormous shower with a tree growing through - truly a grown up treehouse. It is the perfect resort to stay in during the pandemic. We felt very safe and all the team were super vigilant about mask wearing, sanitising and temperature testing guests as well as a rigorous clean of all equipment and furniture (using a machine to ‘fog’ sanitiser on sun beds between guests for example) As all the restaurants are open air and there is plenty of space to stretch your legs over the 500 acres of hills and plantation it is a real paradise in these anxious days. The staff and the food was exemplary, as always and despite that last minute (understandable) firework display cancellation over new year, they laid on a spectacular acrobatic display with fire eaters. Well done AC, you lead the way in showing how travel can resume safely and beautifully. I hope the New Year’s Day rainbow in the bay brings you joy and luck for the future! Sharon Read less

The beach is lovely (though small), there is excellent snorkeling (no need to get the excursion boats, as you see the same reefs) and the place overall is not so perfectly tidy that you cannot feel at home. Staff are wonderful and friendly. The menus were varied but staying three days all inclusive, one could start to get tired of the food. Some activities are included in all-inclusive, and others not, which can be a bit confusing. But if you are looking for a calm, friendly escape from Covid and development, you can find it here. We had a marvelous time just lazing on a perfect beach. Read less

The staff makes this place amazing. We had a beach room and were happy we did. Food very good. Yes, you must be ready for the 100 steps to go to breakfast, but you can also call a ride.
