Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

At this oasis of luxury, you can relish two palm-fringed tropical islands, as well as a separate Spa Retreat. The resort is linked by a 500-metre footbridge — stroll across and admire the underwater life from above or take a dhoni or beach buggy if that's more your style. Choose from three different luxury resort experiences: beautifully furnished Beach Villas on the main Rangalifinolhi Island, home to the main pool, kids pool and water sports centre; amazing, thatch-roofed Water Villas perched on stilts over the shallow waters off Rangali Island, where you'll also find the Quiet Zone pool; or luxurious Retreat Water Villas, with their own treatment room and jacuzzi, part of the only Destination Spa in the Maldives. You'll also be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining, with eight restaurants across the two islands. Set five metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean is the underwater restaurant, Ithaa, with fantastic 180º views of the surrounding coral gardens and serving exquisite European cuisine.

Considering the time of our visit, I have separated my review in to 2 parts: Part 1 deals with the excellent safety provisions in both the Maldives, and the resort WRT COVID. Part 2 deals with the wonderful experience we enjoyed. PART 1 The COVID measures at Male airport were excellent, as they were on our EK flight from Dubai. The hotel staff met us as advised and took us to their dedicated lounge. We then transferred by seal plane to the resort - at all points strong COVID measures were followed. At the resort everything was sanitised and masks worn b the staff. Temperature were taken regularly and people showed good vigilance and practices. The team arranged our return PCR test which was performed at our convenience on the island - the results were back within 24 hours and were readily accepted by Emirates. In summary we felt 100% safe during the journey and at the resort in these COVID times. PART 2 We stayed in a luxury beach villa. Beautifully appointed, with direct beach access, it's own pool, it was spacious and immaculate. It was also a short walk to everything. For those not wishing to walk a buggy could be summoned at short notice. There was great wi-fi, UK 3 pin plugs, USB points, and a Nespresso coffee machine in the room. We were also kept well supplied with drinking water. There report had 5 restaurants / bars open so we had plenty of choice. All were excellent and the staff really knew the menus. Some high spots were the grilled lobster at Sunset Grill, the Chicken and Risotto at Mandhou, the 7 course undersea meal at Ithaa, the fondue in the wine cellar, and our regular lunch of the Keralan Fish Curry at Rangali bar. Great wine selection at all outlets - the St Clair Sauv Blanc especially good. The chef met us on a number of occasions and created a special desert on our last night. First class wining and dining. We dived most days and also went on the Whale Shark trip. This was all run by Ocean divers - an expat led business in the island. True luxury diving and some great dive sites to enjoy (quiet now so take advantage). We saw 4 whale sharks on that trip - you snorkel as they stay near the surface. The staff, led my the charming manager Carla, were excellent. They contemplated your needs and went the extra mile at all times. We arrived as guests but left as friends. We can't wait to return. Beyond the incredible scenery... Comments on Rooms: The rooms were top-notch. We stayed in three different room types during our weeklong stay: Beach Villa, Deluxe Villa, and Superior Water Villa. The difference between the water villas was not very noticeable except for increased privacy as you go up in price/size, and the bathroom is larger with a fuller view. Both were very spacious, though. Bonus: the quiet island was definitely more secluded and less busy + almost no families/children. We used the Beach Villa for one afternoon between check-out and plane departure. It was gorgeous. Outdoor tub and shower, direct beach access with designated chairs. The reef-side beach is a bit more rocky, FYI. All beach villas are on the big island which is busier and holds most of the families with children. Comments on Food: The breakfast buffets were so wonderful. The primary buffet had a fantastic fruit spread and wide range of options from traditional Japanese to Chinese to American to a full fresh juice bar. Ufaa, Mandhoo, and Vilu were our favorite dinner locations. The staff at Villu can't beat! Expect astronomical prices ($100+ per couple per meal). Comments on Staff: Everyone was so friendly. The scale of the operation is quite amazing, and it's impressive for the staff to be 'on' and both working hard and being friendly all the time. Kudos to the team. 100% recommend. Also recommend using Hilton points to save so much $$$ Read less

The family stayed for 6 nights at the Conrad Maldives after arriving on Chinese New Year Day and it turned out to be absolutely amazing. We stayed in the newly renovated 2-bedroom Deluxe Beach Villa (220), Superior Water Villa (334) and Premier Water Villa (314), which were all terrific, the PWV was by far the most gorgeous, private and modern (including a PS4 for my daughter). As Hilton Diamond member, we enjoyed breakfast and drinks at Vilu and Atoll on both sides of the two island resort (actually 3 in total). We also dined primarily at the Rangali Bar, Mandhoo, and also the world's first underwater restaurant - ithaa. We were lucky that most other dining guests left the Ithaa early and so we had the whole restaurant to ourselves to take beautiful memorable photos. Having in-room dining on your private overwater balcony with delicious Maldivian lobsters was also an excellent option! We also got to see and tour the absolutely stunning Muruka which is the world's first underwater residence. There were also a great variety of activities available to guests, paid and complimentary, and snorkeling in the morning was fantastic at the House Reef on the very east side of the Island. I would like to express my gratitude to our reservation supervisor Nadia for arranging the variety of beautiful Villas for our stay. In addition, a huge thank you for Asif and Maad for quickly sorting out any issues for us during our stay and accommodating any special requests we had, especially during the busy end of January season. You both have made our stay very memorable and have set an excellent example of the flawless service offered by the friendly staff at the Conrad Maldives. Finally, we would like to also thank Jessica (our host) for welcoming us, showing us around the island and providing any assistance we required during our stay. Everyone says you have to visit the Maldives at least once in your lifetime. But after our stay at the Conrad Maldives, we firmly believe that you really have to visit the Maldives 'not just once' in your lifetime! Read less

Loved our time in the Maldives, stayed in a water villa with direct access to the lagoon. Couldn't fault the staff, food, ambience. Weather was great for the duration of our stay. Have been to other islands in the Maldives, and they're all great, but this one is definitely one of the best.
