We had a pleasant socially-distant staycation at our favorite SF hotel, but I wish I had known they didn’t have room service/in-room dining right now due to Covid. This should have been made clear when booking reservations. The best part of a staycation is indulging in room service, and had we known this, we would have just stayed home.

I spent four nights here on a trip to California pre-covid and was very very pleased with my choice. Wow. What a fabulous room with fabulous views. The iconic Fairmont did not disappoint despite lots of COVID restrictions (no room service, only one to-go restaurant open and minimal staff). The staff that were there were solicitous and kind. The room itself is unbeatable. It’s 1500 sq ft and really feels spacious. The views are incredible. The… Read more

Staggering views of San Francisco from our palatial (to us Brits anyway) room in the Tower building . Never tired of the panoramic views down the hill of the Golden Gate to Alcatraz and out across the bay. I enjoyed reading the extensive history of the hotel in the photos and texts along the hallways. Unbelievably, the original hotel was finally finished and ready for business just before the catastrophic 1906 earthquake.... They had to knock the incredible building down and start all over again. I enjoyed wandering around the sensational common parts of the hotel and the evening free canapes and glass of wine (although we don't drink alcohol!) was very welcome and a nice way of meeting fellow guests - something we always love to do. My only warning would be to those who find hills a bit overpowering. I was fine but my husband found being so high up a bit inhibiting as far as going for a walk was concerned, although there was a nice park right next door. so we took a lot of taxis...The tram museum was also within an easy level walking distance. And the cable cars run straight past the hotel if you like hopping on and off - worth getting a two day ticket if you are staying longer than a day. For two of you taxis are cheaper than the cable cars if you pay per journey.... Read less

I was lucky enough to stay here. It's central, grown-up, decadent yet business like; a preferred meeting place for the Silicone Valley, Harvard Boys and the Financial Sector, being a stone's throw from the tallest building in San Francisco; Transamerica Building and the Financial District. The staff at the Hotel are very business-like, super… Read more
