I booked the room for my partner (now ex, but don't let my horrible taste in men reflect on this hotel) through American Express. One of the most amazing things about staying at the hotel is the reservations to the Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar which is an iconic Tiki Bar and is a must experience! We enjoyed some cocktails and appetizers in the atrium and then made our way to the Tonga Room for dinner. The room itself was very spacious and the bed was so comfy! I loved it had a soaking tub and shower. I also loved all the historic photos and historical timeline that was shared on the walls on the main floor of the hotel. We did enjoy the breakfast buffet in the atrium and it was delicious! They had such a great mix of options and loved the omelet station. If you want to experience classic elegant hotel service then this is the place to stay! Read less

A warm welcoming when coming to a hotel makes all the difference in a stay. This was around November 2018. We have stayed 3x throughout the last 5 years pre covid, and Juan at the valet remembered us. This was at a time where the hotel would have 300-400 check in a d check outs every day. We were blessed to spend fleet week there without it being in the plan. Albert was fantastic as well, giving great recommendations whilst making us feel very comfortable. Juan, Andres, Albert you all rock! I hope to see you all again soon either in Hawaii or back in California! Read less

The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location. The front desk and auxiliary staff inside couldn’t have been nicer. The lovely woman who checked us in was super friendly and helpful. The hotel operator and house keeping/room service staff we perfect every time we needed anything. Since we were visiting during Covid spike we totally understood the precautions taken and had no issue with mask wearing and distancing. We specifically selected a higher end luxury style hotel because we knew we would be spending more than normal hours in our room and would be dependent upon a well trained helpful staff to make our visit more stress free There were a few issues during the weekend that definitely made our stay less enjoyable than we had expected. First, the biometric temperature device registered my temperature differently on each visit. 98.9 on checkin 99.0 later in day. 100.4 the following morning. 97.8 later that afternoon. And finally 101.4 at which point I stopped using the machine as it was causing unnecessary anxiety. I had just had a neg Covid test the day prior to leaving for San Francisco but the fluctuation in the device made me very anxious that my test was incorrect. Secondly. I am very supportive of the film industry and realize that especially during these times the hotel really benefits from the presence of film crews. We were however made to feel like we were in the way and could tell that the crew was annoyed any time we tried to enter or exit the hotel. We were asked on several different occasions not to take pictures ( which, by the way, we had no interest in doing ). The bellman asked us every single time we tried to enter the building if we were registered guests. Overall we definitely felt that our presence was more of a nuisance than a welcome. Uber drivers were unable to pick up or drop off in the front entrance area since all the surrounding streets were closed off for filming. Our reservation was made at least a month in advance so I’m sure the hotel was well aware of the extensive scope of this location shoot when we made our plans and could have easily notified us about the potential issues we might run into prior to our booking. More of an effort to help us navigate the situation would have been appreciated. Telling us at check in what to expect and what changes were in store for the weekend surely would have prepared us for a more pleasant experience. We got nothing. No apology for the inconvenience. No explanation. Not even an acknowledgment that this was not business as usual for the hotel. Read less

As the girls grew up they looked forward to our special stay in this incredibly elegant hotel. Every year we enjoy their spectacular Christmas Tree and the opening of the Ginger bread house, Santa’s arrival and much, more. They are nearly all grown up now but they still want to keep this tradition that we share with each other! Because of Covid I was not sure about whether we should break from tradition or not. I decided we couldn’t miss it! From the first moment we walked in after being greeted so personably by the wonderful staff and seeing all the Covid precautions that have so carefully been put in place and the gorgeous Christmas Tree again, We were thrilled! We left rejuvenated, pampered and filled with the joys of the holiday season. Thank you Fairmont San Francisco you and your staff are a class act! Read less

We loved our first time visit to this beautiful, iconic hotel. The rooms are very clean, large and very well decorated. The staff (inside and outside bellmen) were exceedingly friendly, helpful and cheery. During these trying times many things were closed or scaled back, but they did their best to make our stay wonderful.
