Finolhu

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The designers had fun when they created Finolhu. A mix of luxury lifestyle and barefoot chic, it would defy its desert island setting if it weren’t for the rustic Maldivian gestures. Head to the funnel-shaped bar terrace or to Beach Club — enjoy one of the DJ sessions or cinema screenings or time your stay for a memorable pool party. Visit the Milk LAB and take a stroll, swim or dhoni boat to the the rustic yet refined Crab Shack, set out on the sandbar. Among the many water experiences here are cruises to spot dolphins and, between May and October, trips to see manta rays. For something a bit different, try glamping Finolhu-style in the Beach Bubble Tent — chill out, watch the sun set and enjoy a private beach barbecue, before spending a night under the stars and watching the sun rise next morning.

We stayed in January 2021 and was totally at ease around the resort. It was perfect and we couldn’t pick a fault at all. All staff were polite, helpful and welcoming. The rooms were beautiful and was always kept clean. The restaurants and activities at the hotel were great and there was lots to do and lots to eat and drink!

This was our second time staying at the Finolhu and we simply adore the place...it really is an Island Playground with plenty to keep you active and entertained whilst being able to switch off from the rest of the world and completely recharge! The food is incredible - we have never been disappointed!!! Huge shout out to the new Executive Chef, Hernandez, who with his team went above and beyond to ensure we were completely satisfied with our food and options... Shyam, an incredible chef from India is by the far one of the kindest, most humble humans I have ever met... always greeting us with radiant smiles and his butter chicken curry and freshly made naan bread (made right there in front of your eyes) should win awards!!! It is by the far the best Indian food we have ever tasted! The water sports team of Noif, Gerrye and Core are fabulous - they know all the right spots to find treasures of the ocean... we took out jet skis and had dolphins swimming alongside us and jumping out playfully in front of us!! And on another day we took a speed boat with the team to snorkel in the turtle reef and swam right up close with the most stunning turtle... was simply electric... The whole team are just incredible - Marc, Xandra, Francesco, Kamal... we could just go on and on!! Thank to you all for making sure we had such a wonderful trip! We will be back thats for sure! Usually on our Maldives trips we do 2 islands in one go. We try a biggish one followed by a small one. With a house reef being of paramount importance! Our first stop was Finolhu. It’s large, buggies take you to your room and to the restaurants. There are buggy buses every 5 mins or so driving up and down collecting people. There were a lot of families with small children, so the pool area for us (with a child of 13) was a bit of a no-no. If you don’t quite enjoy small kids around then Get a villa with private pool. The beach area by the pool was also full of families with children. We basically stayed in our villa and snorkelled out every day all day. The service is very friendly and very good. Staff in the restaurants were superb. Food at the buffet was amazing, very good variety. The sushi restaurant is superb, as was the Arabian Grill. The room itself was a nice size, good view, the usual awesomeness of a maldives resort BUT THEY NEED TO SORT OUT THE HOT WATER SITUATION. It takes forevvvvvvvvvver to heat up, and on one occassion it didn’t heat up at all. After snorkelling late evening you kind of want hot water immediately. The bath once full gets blocked and the cleaner had to deblock it every morning. The reception is very slow.... very very slow. Friendly yes but snail pace slow. If you have a guest infront of you, well, grab a cocktail. You’ll wait. The dive centre could have a few more tops and clothing for sale. They don’t provide bags to take your flippers to your room. We never really saw folks snorkelling , I don’t think they sell Finolhu as a snorkelling resort. We love snorkelling and this reef wasn’t too bad.... they could do with more dedication to the reef, maybe building coral cages. We saw a turtle, octopus, rays, eels and a few sharks. 1st snorkel out my son son and I swam with 2 manta rays.... what luck!! My favourite spot was entering the water at the end of the pier..... where the rockstar villas are..... and then swim the entire reef up until the beach. It was quite a long reef. If you are an avid snorkeller and want a top notch reef, then this isn’t for you. Its a friendly, family orientated, colourful resort. Read less
