Finolhu

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The designers had fun when they created Finolhu. A mix of retro-chic design and futuristic touches, it would defy its desert island setting if it weren’t for the rustic Maldivian gestures. Head to the funnel-shaped bar terrace or to Baa Baa Beach Club — enjoy one of the DJ sessions or cinema screenings or time your stay for a retro pool party. Visit the Milk Bar ‘old school tuck shop’ and take a stroll, swim or dhoni boat to the the rustic yet refined Fish & Crab Shack, set out on the sandbar. Among the many water experiences here are cruises to spot dolphins and, between May and October, trips to see manta rays. For something a bit different, try glamping Finolhu-style in the Beach Bubble Tent — chill out, watch the sun set and enjoy a private beach barbecue, before spending a night under the stars and watching the sun rise next morning.

Service is prompt and polite, feels like everyone really cares about your well being on the island. Food was up to Maldivian standards, though missed some fine dining options. Hope after the reopening of the hotel will be more sophisticated options. Overall very satisfied, for us as a couple the Ocean pool villa was the best for its privacy and comfort. A tip- try the floating breakfast! That’s something you would like to have on your Instagram account. We will be back, thank you Finolhu team! Read less

We stayed at Finolhu resort early March 2020. Shortly before leaving home to travel to the resort we received an email from our hotel in Malé that our overnight reservation was canceled due to corona virus restrictions. I rang the manager of Finolhu resort and unfortunately due to time zone differences I woke him from sleep. Despite the early hour he was able to book us on a late night domestic flight from Malé and speed boat transfer from a nearby island instead of our sea plane transfer. All this was achieved before we left home that morning! We arrived at the resort after 2am local time and were warmly welcomed by Customer Service Director Anna Yurinok. After an express checkin we made our way to the stunning over-water room where finger food & snacks were waiting incase we were hungry after our long travel day - Very thoughtful. Due to corona virus there were very few guests in the resort during our stay however there were no cut backs evident in the resort restaurants. Buffets were well stocked with a large variety of food selections available. All restaurants were open and offered high quality food choices. Golf carts were frequently available when we wanted to use them but more often than not we chose to enjoy the walk instead. We enjoyed breakfast in the main restaurant & lunch at the Crab Shack. We had a romantic dinner on the beach one night with a personal chef that went above & beyond to make sure we enjoyed each course he served. We had a late afternoon seaplane transfer on the day of departure so had some last minute time by the pool before leaving. Anna was there to see us off and as we had already checked out and settled our account Anna shouted us lunch & drinks as we waited for the sea plane - Another great personal touch. As the domestic flight & speed boat transfer was part of our package I requested a refund of the sea plane transfer from the hotel on arrival however was advised to contact the agent - Luxury Escapes. I sent them 2 emails during my stay and Finolhu Resort also contacted them. No answer was forthcoming. When I returned home I emailed and eventually called Luxury Escapes and was offered a Luxury Escapes credit valid for 12 months to the value of the sea plane transfer. Given the worsening corona virus situation I advised them I didn't foresee travelling within that time frame and requested a cash refund. I was advised I would incur a 20% fee for processing the refund. I found this unacceptable and no number of emails or phone calls would change their minds. I contacted Anna from Finolhu resort and even though she was at home in Belarus she was kind enough to take the time to contact Luxury Escapes and convince them to process the refund without the 20% fee. What amazing service! Overall a great resort offering fantastic accommodation, food & service. I would definitely stay there again. Read less

We booked Ocean villa with private swimming pool and sunset view on All Inclusive package. For us it was more than enough! Make sure you spend at least a day in Crab Shack - it’s not only the lunch restaurant, but a perfect place for a peaceful time at the beach, more in Cafe Del Mar style. Beach Bar was also quite nice with everyday activities and fun in the evening. Kanusan is worth going for a romantic evening, just make sure you book your dinner time in advance. Staff and management are very attentive, feels like they really would like to make friends with you and do care about our holidays. Keep it up, we are coming back! Read less

The Seaside Finolhu is one of the most amazing resorts I have ever been to and they will go above and beyond to ensure you have the perfect stay. Airport Arrival into Male was exceptionally smooth and the Finolhu lounge was amazing, lots of food and drinks on offer and the representative was extremely helpful and ensured we had a smooth transition to the sea plane. The sea plane is such a great experience and I would highly recommend this option. As soon as we landed, we were greeted by the Finolhu staff and offered a drink.... great start to our honeymoon. Rooms We stayed in a lagoon over water villa and when we arrived it just blew our minds. As a first category room, you get so much for your money. The beds are huge, and the pillows are like clouds, safe to say we slept very well throughout our stay. They also have Marshal speakers and cable TV which is perfect for times you want to relax before going out for dinner. There is always so much to do, so you will never be bored! We used our villa quite a lot as we would sunbathe on our deck and swim in the lagoon, which was fabulous. The cleaner that looked after our villa, made us feel very welcome and looked after as they made the bed twice a day and also did us a rose bath and a happy honeymoon display on our bed which was a really nice touch. Food There is a huge variety of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! All the staff are very attentive and friendly, and you never have to wait for drinks. The chefs are very personable and take pride in the food and work that they do, everyone works so hard and you feel privileged to be catered for by all the lovely people that work there. We dined at Kanusan a couple of times for dinner and was one of our favourite restaurants as we love Asian food. The Fish and Crab Shack is a must for lunch, it is utterly amazing. It is located at the far end of the sand bank and you can either take a stroll across to the restaurant or take the boat which is a nice experience. It is an ideal setting with the crystal-clear blue waters and white beach surrounding it, you will be dining with your feet in the sand. The food is outstanding, and we visited a couple of times as we loved it so much - sometimes on a weekend they have a DJ playing which provides all the cool vibes. The main restaurant holds different themed dinners every evening and we really enjoyed the Mexican night which included a taco station and churros...yum! The breakfast at the main restaurant is also particularly good and I had pancakes most morning.... I also highly recommend the banana jam!! Entertainment As we were on our honeymoon we wanted to relax as much as possible and not overdo it with activities. There were enough activities available for you to take part in if you wanted to. Some of our favourite things that we did on our stay was watch the band 'Silent Alarm' on an evening whilst drinking cocktails, watching the entertainment crew doing circus acts - they are very talented and watching a movie under the stars with snacks. Activities Snorkelling items are free of charge, which is a bonus, but all other equipment is chargeable as standard. On our stay we wanted to spend our money on an experience, so we decided to do the evening dolphin cruise, which was amazing. It is not always guaranteed that you will see the dolphins, but we were lucky enough to see them - it is an experience we will never forget. A big shout out to Khaleel, who really looked after us on the dolphin trip and made sure we had the best time. We also used the spa and booked massage treatments which were amazing, however I do think they are quite expensive, and we would have used the spa and booked more treatments if the prices were lower. Overall, the Finolhu is a little slice of paradise and we had the most amazing honeymoon and have made memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. The staff, servers, chefs, cleaners, buggy drivers, maintenance, spa staff and everyone on the resort make it a fabulous experience. Anna the guest services manager is an asset to the team and ensured every day that you are having the best time. Hopefully, we will return in the near future. Read less
