Ocean Point Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

Virgin rating

The hotel

At times you’ll get the impression you’re in the heart of Italy – at others there’s no denying you’re in the Caribbean. Exclusively for adults, Ocean Point Resort & Spa is a kick-off-your-flip flops fusion of the idyllic Med and the exotic Tropics. From its gardens, where bougainvillea grows among palm trees, to its fabulous Sottovento Beach Club, where chefs will use fresh island produce as you dine just steps from the sea. This may be a far cry from home, with its huge beachfront pool and two seductively sandy coves, but the family owners have created a truly homely space, complete with a resident cat and dog, informal yet comfy guest rooms, and day trips for snorkelling and turtle spotting.

We had a great time at Ocean Point. The view from our balcony was like a picture postcard. The beach was kept clean and the water was lovely. We swam in the pool, which is open 24 hours, early mornings and it was very clean. We stayed all inclusive and the food was very good. There was a good choice for breakfast and lunch and the evening meals changed everyday and were all superb. We liked the fact we ordered food from the menu as opposed to a buffet and we thought that was a good idea as we are sure it means less wastage. The staff were always polite and attentive. It was nice to see the food being prepared in the kitchen and showed how hard all the ladies and gents worked to make sure the food was prepared and presented well. The owners were on hand to ensure the guests enjoyed their stay and their attention to detail was second to none. Bryan in the bar was always on hand to brighten the day and he enjoyed we ordered salads for lunch which he found very amusing even though there were many other choices on the menu. The rooms were cleaned daily and although a little dated they were clean and comfortable. We would recommend Ocean Point if you want a relaxing holiday away from it all and don't want much entertainment. You will enjoy it. Read less

It’s a quiet hotel. If you’re looking for a quiet break then this is the place for you. I would say this hotel suits couples or slightly older clientele but if you’re just looking for a quiet break then this is the place. Such a clean hotel. It was very refreshing to see the effort put in on a daily basis from all of the staff from cleaning to grounds maintenance. The views are stunning. We had two separate rooms as trip had a stop in between and both rooms were beautiful with their own amazing views. The pool is open all of the time. Perfect for me and early morning swim which I made the most of. There are perfect spots to watch the sunrise/sunset. There is entertainment every other day so if you’re looking for busy nightlife then you may want to head out. The food. The food was delicious, we would have liked to have seen more local dishes showcased or part of the all-inclusive menu. The menu consisted mostly of English/american/italian dishes. The hotel could do with slight ungraded in places and bigger shower cubicles but on the grand scale of these, these are minor. Read less

Positives: -gorgeous spot with two bays for swimming - pool and deck are pleasant spaces - very quiet Major Negatives: - All inclusive menu is restricted to a small set of dishes, some are there every day and they offer a few daily specials- but these are sometimes unusual. The bulk of menu options come at a significant extra charge. -Breakfast and lunch are good quality but the dinner is substandard and comes uncomfortably quickly. - Staff seem to be learning their craft. Sadly, orders are routinely confused and the reception team were unable to provide extra bedding and pillows. - No watersports facilities and equipment at all, despite reception promising this. - Bedding is thin, bedrooms are very dated and the showers are basic - drain smell too... More of a hostel vibe. They could have a real gem here but they have quite a lot of work to do. Read less

Special thanks to Melissa, Brian &Jay, plus so many others sorry I can’t remember all your names. The food is amazing we had no problem choosing from the great variety every day. The wine was of a very good quality, as were many of the cocktails. The beach was clear of seaweed, never had a problem getting a sun bed, plenty on the beach and round the pool. The room was clean and the bed was so comfortable, bedding and towels changed frequently. We did have a slight problem with hot water, this was sorted out. Coffee machine on the next level down, great coffee. Met some lovely people while we were there. Hopefully we’ll see you again soon. Read less
