We are spending a TON of money at this resort and the experience has already been terrible! We are terrified knowing that our wedding is not a priority to UNICO at all. We have been trying to plan our wedding that is booked at UNICO for the first week of May, but have not had any communication with our assigned on-site coordinator and we are only 1month away from our wedding. Our contract states that we would be in touch with our on-site coordinator 60 days out to ensure we are appropriately accommodated for our big day. We have sent several emails, have called, left voicemails and have gotten nowhere. The terrible customer service on property, and the wedding department specifically is extremely unacceptable. We have reached out to try to find another solution, but instead of helping us find an issue and get the ball rolling all they can say is that our coordinator, that should have reached out to us 30 days ago, has completely dropped the ball and is on vacation. They can’t tell us when we can expect to hear from him nor has there been any other solution given. Each and every person we’ve spoken to on the phone continuously talks over us , gaslighting our worries, and fail to help us at all. We haven’t even visited the property yet and we are riddled with anxiety about something that we were under the impression would be very easy. We have not been taken care of and are now weary that this exactly what our upcoming stay will be like. I don’t know what sort of upgrades can be granted for this extreme inconvenience and poor customer service, but we would love to hear an offer. Read less

Staff was excellent as usual, kudos to pool staff, they work very hard and also Balsam bar staff who are all extremely helpful and friendly. In particular Saul in the quiet pool, Elvira In the main pool and, Yuridia in the Balsam Bar. Read less

My husband and I went with another couple that are members. We were there March 15-19. Airport Pickup: 30 minutes late Pool: No warning from hotel that the main pool was closed due to a leak. No apology, no compensation. All guests had to fight over the remaining two pools. Food: Horrible. Poor quality. Flavor was bland, too salty, or too sweet. I have had better seafood out in town with the locals. There is only one a la carte restaurant option for lunch at the 2087. Since the food at the pool was so bad, we decided to try the 2087 for lunch instead. The first day we were there around 3:30pm. Food was average. Decided to go there again the next day around 1pm. Since it was a busier time to have lunch, the service was lacking. We were never given the sushi menu like the previous day. Waiting over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Glasses of water and drinks sat empty. All of a sudden all of courses arrived all at once. Salda, soup, and main course! Six plates between the two of us at a small table. My soup and risotto were cold so I had to send them back. I tried to just eat it to be polite, but why should I? Did I pay so much money to eat cold dry risotto? I wasn't nasty about it. Reminded the server that it wasn't his fault that management did not staff enough help to keep up with the lunch time rush. I asked for the sushi menu and had that instead. At least sushi is suppose to be cold. Even the ladies at the next table had to also ask for the server to check on their food too. Very disappointing. Room: Very spacious comfortable bed. House keeping did a great job cleaning the room and turn down service everyday. The oil diffuser was only turned on only once on the first night, though. Spa: The only good thing at this resort. Unfortunately it is grossly overpriced. I only booked a treatment because we had resort credits. I had the Blue Agave package and it was fantastic. Highly recommend. My friends did confirm that food used to be much better when they were last here a couple years ago. I've been to a few Palace, LeBlanc, and Riu resorts. I would rank my first impression of Unico as close to be the least favorite so far. Tips: Go reserve pool chairs before 7am. Don't have high expectations for bold flavor Mexican food because you'll be disappointed. Avoid trying to eat at the 2087 between 12pm-3pm. Read less

Second trip and I loved it as much as the first. Almost everything was perfect. I will list the good first: -Everyone is assigned a local host to smooth the way for you to enjoy as much as possible. Dinner and spa reservations, booking tours, ensuring your comfort etc. We were fortunate enough to have Marco Montes as our local host. There was nothing we could ask that he wouldn't fulfil and always went above and beyond his duties to ensure our happiness and comfort. Whenever we go again, I would always ask for him again. 5+ stars! -The friendliest staff anywhere. All very much service oriented and always with a smile. There are too many names to mention of people who enhanced our stay but a few stood out: Dulce, Patricia, Jesus, Wilberth and Carlos at Unico2087 grill; Antonio and Luis at Mura House, Miguel at Mi Carisa; Elvira providing pool service. Again, all staff were wonderful; these are the few of whom I made special note. - Special thanks to Rafael, Sebastian and Ricardo who are part of the entertainment staff and run an AquaFit programme everyday. Their energy, charm and enthusiasm would make even the laziest of us want to get in the water and join them. -Rooms are kept in pristine conditions, serviced twice a day if you want. Housekeeping staff will bring you anything you could possibly need. The less than good: We were in a lovely ocean view room near one end of the property. There is an event venue just next door to the hotel where one wedding and at least two other parties were held. This is not within the control of Unico but the music and the pounding of the bass made sleep impossible for three nights. I have to believe there are noise laws in Mexico. Again, through no fault of the hotel, the main pool sprung a leak two days after our arrival and remained out of service for the next 12 days. This caused serious crowding in the other pools and a lack of loungers. I would like to think that in high season, this repair might have happened more quickly Check in process is much too long. As soon as you arrive, you receive a pre-sales sales presentation , which, if you show interest, becomes a Legendary Club presentation the next day and an office meeting if you continue to be interested. Full disclosure: I am a Legendary member who finally is taking advantage of the benefits the club has to offer, but It's a shame to take so much time away from your brief holiday, While less aggressive than in the past, the sales pitches are everywhere. One other minor annoyance: The Legendary membership consists of at least four levels: Deluxe, VIP, Hall of Fame and Chairman's Club. The latter two groups have a dedicated pool, and another pool is designated for all members. (Previously VIP and up.) Every day, countless loungers at the members' pool were reserved for Hall of Fame members, many of whom never appeared, while their pool remained virtually empty. As a result, there was a shortage of seating for other members. Normally, this would not be such a big issue, but with the big pool out of service and the resort packed, it was annoying. All in all, a fabulous holiday which I hope to repeat soon. Read less
