Location was good. Hotel design and layout was nice. Well equipped gym. Particularly, liked the hot tub by the pool overlooking the sea. However, rooms were plagued with constant maintenance issues with water supply. Better communication with guests needed. Considering the amount paid expected a lot more value for money.

I loved the location of this resort. It had a beautiful private island. The staff was polite and helpful. The drink service was quick and the food was good. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and lunches. The food service was slow though. The room was clean and comfortable. It was decorated differently on the website photos, but still nice. We easily got taxis to restaurants in the area. The weather is perfect too. It was close to St. John's and we enjoyed a nice lunch, shopping at the port, and dinner at Hemingway's another evening. The Bistro was also a great restaurant close to the resort. The biggest thing this resort is missing is some live entertainment at night. It always adds to the experience. Also, they should inform people about their amenities like the private island, water aerobics, etc! A schedule of activities and some suggestions are always helpful to newbies on the island! It was close the airport too. The best way to get back and forth is a taxi. If you are there a few nights, try to go to Shirley's Lookout on Thursday or Sunday nights. It had live music and food. We also had fun snorkeling on Capt. Sean's sailboat. We had a wonderful adventure with him. He provided food and drinks and we snorkeled off the reef. Read less

I'd visited Hodges Bay twice before - once in 2018 after it had just opened and another time in 2021. Both times the experience was wonderful - beautiful property with friendly staff and great service. However, when I returned for a third time most recently with my family, it was a huge disappointment. While the resort remains beautiful, when you take a closer look you'll notice that things are falling between the cracks and it's due for a serious update and maintenance. For one, the seat cushions were dirty to the point we did not feel comfortable sitting on them and we requested multiple times that they be cleaned or changed and that never happened. The carpet in the room was filthy and stained, the glass on our balcony was rusting and needed to be replaced and overall, the accommodations just did not feel clean. I started to feel uncomfortable to even put my baby down on the bed because it seemed that there was not a focus on cleanliness and I was skeptical if even the sheets were bing washed thoroughly. Most notably, we had to call daily to ask for our room to be cleaned and one day housekeeping did not even come until 7PM (after multiple calls to the front desk). In addition, the service and food have gone down significantly - waiters were rude, food was bland and presentation was flat out sloppy. It's hard to write this review because I used to think so highly of Hodges Bay and it is a resort that has a ton of potential. What I experienced was far below what I would expect of any 5 star hotel, and even a 4 star. I would not consider returning to Hodges Bay or recommending without a significant transformation in service and operations. Read less

We went in late February as a couple in our late 20s for 7 nights in a junior suite. We prefer to stay in our resort so spent the entire time there. We used most of the facilities except the “kids” pool. Positives: Contrary to some of the recent reviews, we felt the services and facilities were of a standard expected for this price point in the Caribbean. The resort is not spotless but we had no issues we wanted to raise during our time there. Breakfast is only a few metres from the beach front with a stunning view. We think we went at a fairly quiet time as we had no issues getting sun loungers anytime at the pool or beach, that was mentioned in previous reviews. There wasn’t a culture of reserving beds as there were lots of options. The bed was at least a large king and was very comfortable. We slept so well here. The fridge did make some white noise and you could hear the birds outside but we liked this. The food in the restaurants/bar is good and reasonably priced for a resort. We ate exclusively here as our preference but there are restaurants a short drive away. There is a good range of food between the bar, white sands, prickly pear and NaCl. The fine dining NaCl restaurant in particular was delicious and only open Thursday-Saturdays. Cocktails were reasonably priced and very good too. Most staff were really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. In particular Craig who manages the beach bar was very attentive and personable. Guests can go to prickly pear via a short boat journey. There are also kayaks and paddle boards for guests to use, plus 2 pools and a hot tub. Negatives: As other reviews have mentioned, some of the staff were really quite rude. We found this in particular with the waitresses at breakfast or the white sands restaurants, if you asked for some water or milk for the coffee they seemed almost offended. This was never anyone in management or reception and some of the other waitresses were so lovely. The resort is not exclusive in that people not staying here can pay to use the facilities for the day. It wasn't an issue when we were there as it wasn't too busy but could imagine in peak season it might get a bit crowded. Overall we will definitely recommend to friends and family and would consider coming back ourselves. The location is beautiful. Read less

This review is based on the fact that this hotel is holding itself out to being a 5 star hotel. To be fair, the beach is beautiful BUT incredibly small. Maybe 12 lounge chaises on the beach and 20 by the pool. Good luck getting a beach towel. About 1/3 of the cushions were slashed and the wicker on the chairs was frayed. Now the staff at the front… Read more
This review is based on the fact that this hotel is holding itself out to being a 5 star hotel. To be fair, the beach is beautiful BUT incredibly small. Maybe 12 lounge chaises on the beach and 20 by the pool. Good luck getting a beach towel. About 1/3 of the cushions were slashed and the wicker on the chairs was frayed. Now the staff at the front desk, the bars and water front were really friendly and helpful but you had to find them. They rarely approached you to see if you needed anything. The waitresses at the one and only open restaurant were rude and resented you even being there. I could never get water or coffee without having to get up and ask the hostess for some. The food was bland and no where near what anyone would call 5 star. Their attitude might be partially based on the hotel keeping the service charge AND any additional tip that you give. If you want to tip anyone who provided you good service, do it in cash, don’t put it on the check because they will never receive it. The rooms were pleasant but the seat cushions were stained and there were numerous cracks in the plaster. (This is after a renovation 5 years ago) we had an ocean front room and the view was amazing. Be aware that this hotel is on the Atlantic side of the island so the water is clear but not warm like the Caribbean side. Now am I being hypercritical, I think not. There is an actual definition of 5-star. It incorporates facility ecxcellence, an extra effort to food quality, and a customer service that goes above and beyond. So while the beach and prickle pear island are beautiful I would equate this hotel to a Holiday Inn that hasn’t had any updates or maintenance since it opened Read less
