After a 45 minute drive to the resort we were greeted with a cool drink & warm hand towel. Our ground level Garden View Suite was private, clean & the perfect location, We were surrounded by lush jungle & tropical flowers. Only sounds heard from our patio were cooing doves. We saw humming birds, tiny frogs & adorable geckos, & no bugs. The elusive green monkeys were fun to watch as they frolicked in the trees at dusk. The lovely pool was never crowded with plenty of shady spots to relax & Rashidi at the bar always greeted with a big smile. A limited barbecue was available for lunch but we chose to eat at the charming open air restaurant overlooking the pool. Breakfast was buffet style with lunch & dinner serving a 3 course a’la carte variety of Caribbean specialties which we enjoyed. As mentioned in previous reviews the service was slow & sometimes forgetful. Only tea & coffee were available all day with a variety of finger sandwiches & cookies put out at 4:00 tea time. There was a poolside barbecue one night and 2 special outdoor buffets all with local talented singers. Both Michelle & Karina at the desk were friendly & answered all my many questions. We took advantage of the complimentary glass bottom boat ride to see the turtles which was a lot of fun. (Be forewarned the Sugar Cane is a laid back resort with no loud music, organized activities or rude vacationers.) We plan on returning in the near future. Read less

We booked this hotel based on how good the reviews were. It was our honeymoon and mainly wanted relaxation. We knew the hotel wasn’t on the beach and in a quiet part of the island. This didn’t bother us at all. The guy driving the shuttle bus was really accommodating and we used it to go down to the supermarket and Heywoods Beach, he even came back for us after a quick shop and also took us further towards Mullins one day so thank you very much for the great service. The hotel is clean and well-maintained, and our room (ocean view) was large and well-equipped, only complaint is there is no mini bar and water only provided on first night. Not ideal with no shop on site (there is a tiny kiosk but not much in it!) The pool is lovely and relaxing, always sun beds available and a bar pool side. The food we were so impressed with, most of the time it is a la carte and every single meal we had (lunch and dinner) was lovely. We also liked the buffet by the pool with live music, lovely atmosphere. We are a couple in our 40’s and we were one of the youngest guests, however, we found a lot of the older couples we met were lively and very sociable. We were only disappointed by two things: firstly, there is not often music playing around the pool or in the evening if there is no live entertainment, it only seemed if the bar staff wanted to they would put music on. This means sometimes the atmosphere was lacking for us. We were looking forward to hearing some reggae while drinking a rum punch! Secondly, and this was my biggest annoyance, the lack of bar staff both during the day and evening. It seemed only one bar was open at a time, with only ever one bar person making drinks. Sometimes they would disappear for ages, I’m talking half an hour, with a bar full of people wanting drinks. On top of this they would start closing up at 10.30pm which for me was far too early for a hotel. If the staff need breaks there should be cover when they go. We don’t mind laid back but this wasn’t very good service at all in my opinion. Saying that, there were a few members of staff who were really lovely and helpful. On the whole an amazing visit, we fell in love with Barbados, thank you Sugar Cane Club! Read less

Every lunch time there was a BBQ by the pool, with fresh fish, meat, salads if you did not want to go to restaurant for lunch Hotel was spotless Staff friendly and helpful The all inclusive option was worth it as it included cocktails My only slightly negative comment would be that the bar shuts early sometimes 10.30. There are also times when the beach bar was shut, main bar was not open so you could not get a drink, but this was only for a short time before one or the other opened I highly recommend this hotel and I intend to return Read less
