The hotel

The adventure of a jungle safari comes alive right before your eyes at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. With lush surroundings and beautiful savannahs, you'll be transported to another world when you step through the front doors. From restaurants, viewing platforms, and possibly even your room, you can watch zebra, giraffes and gazelles roam free and graze in their natural environments. Little ones can learn more about the fascinating animals, and even be a junior researcher for a day. And when you're not watching the animals in awe, you can take a dip in one of the pools, feast on some good food, or hit the parks in a matter of minutes! The adventure never ends here.

It's a fun hotel but it's pretty run down. Rooms must be 20+ years old, the bathrooms are particularly dingy. The kids loved it, the adults not so much. The rooms and pool area could really do with a refurb. The lighting is all very dark, especially in the 1980's bathrooms.

Our hotel room was spacious and comfortable - easily enough space for 3 adults [our young adult daughter was with us] with two double beds. And to see giraffes and other animals from the room was amazing and a little unexpected as we had booked a standard room. Also - the laundry facilities here were great - we needed them to prepare for the second half of our Florida trip. Read less

By far the nicest hotel at Disney World. We booked a standard view room but enjoyed a partial/obstructed view of the animals. The room was very clean and comfortable, and housekeeping was extremely quick and thorough. The pool, grounds, and amenities are some of the best of any Disney hotel. Bus service, as is typical for all Disney hotels, ranged from poor to good. A lot of people won’t recommend this hotel because it is the furthest from the other 3 parks, but it’s only about few more minutes than the other central hotels. Read less

We ended up booking our Disney trip later than usual and the only premium hotel left with availability was the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had looked at it before but always decided against it, but now we got a chance to try it. The good: Check in very smooth - used straight to room in app. We came a little early and our bags were held at the bell service for us. The restaurants were actually really good! I don't associate Disney with great dining, but JIko for Dinner was lovely. Even the wine pairings were great, and service was excellent. We also ate at Sanaa and it was really good. The pool area was nice, not super large but it had a fun slide for the kids and a bar/snack area right next to it. We didn't participate in the activities offered, but it looked like a lot of offerings, and also smore's every night, and some nights there was a movie night set up as well. The buses worked well and were never too crowded in spite of it being spring break. The buses don't pick up at other hotels like some other Disney buses do. The entrance is super nice, very cosy and well themed. There is a viewing station there where you can talk to staff about the animals and I learned a lot. It feels more relaxed / quiet than the other Disney hotels we have stayed at The kids enjoyed the Disney version of Siri. Our daughter would say " Hey Disney, tell me a good night story" every night. The not so good: The rooms are dated. The pillows were very lumpy. We had a Savannah view which was really nice but the animals didn't come by our area that often. Our friends lost hot water on their side of the hotel and kept getting different answers on what was going on. The water was back the following morning The maid service was ok, didn't feel super clean after they had been in the room The outside of the hotel looks a bit like a motel to me in the back. The Bottom Line: Probably not worth what we paid, but we had a great time and would consider going back again. 4 star mainly due to how dated the room was and the bed quality, for 5 stars I would expect a nice bed.
