The hotel

With its high-end design, jaw-droppingly gorgeous spa, 24-hour gym, and dazzling dining spots, this sophisticated adults only hotel wouldn’t look out of place in one of the world’s cool cities (think Miami or LA) – of course, you won’t be disappointed to find yourself along Doctor’s Cave Beach instead. The incredible location on the palm-fringed sands mean you get stunning views from the rooftop Sky Deck – with its glass-enclosed pool, comfy cabanas, and Jamaican-tapas menu. If you’d rather be nearer the sands, S Hotel Montego Bay also comes with an equally enticing beachside pool with daybeds, a pool bar, and a trendy vibe with a DJ playing the latest sounds during the day. S Hotel has direct access to Doctor Cave beach and offers guests complimentary sun loungers and waiter service so you lie back with your toes in the sand, relax and enjoy time here too.

The place is overrated/overpriced, and the hotel itself is not as clean as you probably like it to be. The entertainment there is extremely boring and this is not the hotel you want to visit if you want to have a really great time. It’s also surrounded by a very poor strip in the surrounding area isn’t the greatest either. I’d recommend staying somewhere else and rate this hotel with Food entertainment and cleanliness a four out of 10. Best thing they had was the 24/7 cafe. That’s about it! Read less

We had a lovely stay at the S hotel, it is a boutique type hotel, adults only and a low key, chilled environment type place. In the main the staff are helpful and friendly, the guys round the pool and beach particularly helpful. We had wanted a room with a balcony, but none were available during our stay. So we had a mini king room...which is mini, the room and the bathroom with little storage space. There is also no window in the room, you did get an additional room which is pretty pointless with a sofa, fridge and TV with a window to the corridor, we used this room to store cases, so the room was disappointing but not the end of the world. Restaurants were fairly easy to book , I particularly liked Jam rock, food and staff great( had a lovely steak). Buffet was also fine and the grill was ok for lunch if you got there when the food was just cooked, enjoyed the burger and onion rings. Pool area was nice and chilled, no rush to get a bed. Pool guys will put out towels. Coffee shop was great, again friendly staff, coffee and ice cream good. Beach was ok, section reserved for hotel but felt a bit crammed in, beds not that comfy. Snorkeling by the jetty was ok with a few fish to see. You can get a catamaran trip to go snorkeling which ironically takes you to 100m from outside your own hotel beach!! It would be really good if the hotel had a little boat to take people out. Entertainment was low key, not much attendance to day events. Evening had a small singing group or steel band, everything finishes by 10pm. Overall we had a nice stay, but there areas that could be better. Read less

SHJ arranged transport from Sangster Airport and it was relatively smooth. Check in was very good. We were provided a cocktail, water and refreshing chilled wet washcloth. Beach is private but is shared with a swim club that made it not feel very private (kids swim lessons and triathlon training from the other part of the beach). The beach is small and walkable but somewhat confining. Food at the pool bar was the same each day - largely rice and peas, fries, onion rings, an overcooked squash offering along with jerk chicken and sausage. The meat was dry and necessitated a jerk or bbq dipping sauce. Breakfast was a buffet with subpar baked goods and okay warm items. The omelet station was the chosen way to go for breakfast after day one. Coffee was wonderful. The 24/7 cafe was very convenient and it offered items throughout the day that were nice to have. Dinners require reservations and I highly recommend you make them before your arrival. We dined at Jam Rock and the steak though the size of a dinner plate, was over cooked and far too thin. We enjoyed Roots Rock the Jamaican restaurant a great deal. The food was humble as its intent but was elevated in both its preparation and the service was strong. We enjoyed the Jamaican restaurant and opted to change from the international restaurant to the Jamaican one. Though we do not drink alcohol we enjoy going to a bar to enjoy a Heineken Zero. We were unable to do so at the downstairs bar as it was unmanned and smelled strongly of vomit. Regarding the room we felt the room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. Good sheets and double shower were appreciated. We had to call numerous times for towels and were provided turndown service on one night. The service was uneven - some very good others as though you were a bother. The pool bartender is the least personable bartender we have ever encountered. We attended one group event, a beach walk which involved light jogging, lunges, squats, etc. We enjoyed the instructor and the insight on the property gained. Our fellow guests were not what you might expect at a resort meriting top billing in its geography. For instance, the smell of weed was present on the beach, pool bar, lobby and everywhere we went sans our room. Evening entertainment was marred by some bar fly's who were taking pictures of their rear ends, to what end I am uncertain. This is a comfortable place for a couple days but I would advise against anything longer than three days as the property, food and guests will grow tiresome. In the future I would stay here again if a bargain could be had on rate and with the understanding food and clientele are not that of a luxury resort. Read less

Great food, great ambience, relaxing and welcoming. This resort is Catered to grown folks, no parties here, Everything shuts down at 10pm! What we were looking for, except some nights would have been nice to have the option of staying up later with a drink and some music.
