The hotel

Fun and futuristic, Yotel has found its spiritual home in Boston’s Seaport neighbourhood – its tech-driven ‘Innovation District’ is the perfect setting for this tech-savvy hotel, with Boston’s famous sights just moments away thanks to the subway stop in its basement. Inspired by the digital age and styled with a tongue-in-cheek nod to first class travel, guest rooms are called ‘cabins’, you get free superfast WiFi throughout, and you even check in at airport-style self-service desks (although Yotel’s ‘Mission Control crew’ are always ready to help). Even the social spaces are first class themed – from the lobby’s Club Lounge with its casual dining and complimentary tea and coffee, to the rooftop’s Sky Lounge, with its views over Boston’s skyline and harbour, refreshing ‘Cabin Cooler’ cocktails, innovative light bites, and playlists designed by its ‘Sound Architect’.

Very small room and not worth the money . We also didn't like the polystyrene cups for drinks and no fridge.

In the lobby complimentary coffee is supposed to be available from 5:30 to 6:30, which is too early for many people. The ice machine on the 9th floor was empty 50% of the time, but ice was always available on the 8th floor. You need your card key to work the elevator, which is inconvenient if your hands are full. There is no microwave or refrigerator in the room. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the convention center. There is Trader Joe's and Trillium bar next to it, and a Shake Shack across the street. It is literally right next to the Silver line Bus/train that takes you right to the airport. It is in walking distance of the harbor, Chinatown, the North Market, and the Boston Public Market. Read less

A really nice hotel with super-clean and bright rooms, which although small, were well kitted out and very comfortable.

I made two reservations at YOTEL Boston. The second was an emergency booking at very short notice. But all was well on both occasions as to service, room, food and general ambiance.

The location of this Yotel is great - just a quick walk to/from South Station and other T stations, and lots to do around the Seaport area on a nice day. Upon check in I was sent to a room that hadn't been cleaned yet - the bed wasn't made, and sheets and towels were balled up on the floor, presumably from the previous guest. I returned to the front desk and the very friendly agents were able to switch me to a new, clean room, no problem. The rooms are very small, which is not a problem for a solo traveler but I can imagine it getting very crowded very quickly with a couple sharing the space. The "bathroom" is also in the room itself, which is a bit odd. There's even a sticker on the window reminding you to close the shades before you take a shower! There were some strange layout choices also, for example the towel rack is in the toilet stall and there isn't a spot to hang a towel closer to the shower...just a bit strange. There is an iron and ironing board, but barely any space to really use it. There is no fridge or coffee maker in the room; you basically get the bed, toilet, shower, sink, TV, a few hangers, and a drawer or two by the bed. The rooms are air conditioned but the AC unit is incredibly loud. I stayed only one night so I can't speak to this possibly happening every day, but on the morning of April 24th I was woken up around 8:30am by power drills, as the 10th floor had somehow become an active construction zone. It sounded like furniture was being reinstalled in the room next to and above mine, and it went on for about 45 minutes -- and in the breaks between drilling I could hear conversations and TV noise from the room on the other side of mine; the walls really are that thin. I was packing up to head out early anyway, but I can't imagine I was the only one bothered by the sounds of power tools before 9am. Read less
