Image of the Tripadvisor rating Super noisy and poor room design

The hotel was designed to be chic, not functional. No place to hang long dresses in the closet. VERY noisy (from street and pool area), with very poor sleep, despite being on 13th floor. Way overpriced. Dangerously slick and deep bathtub despite being an “accessible” room. Gym was good.

The Thompson Austin is a really great stay. I had a three night stay here for a conference that was at a different hotel. This was my first stay here and I have stayed at the JW, the new Marriott, the W, and the Driskill in the past. This was by far the best experience. The rooms are very nice. All the interiors throughout the hotel are extremely impressive. The amenity floor has a beautiful pool that is well maintained with extremely comfortable lounge chairs by the pool. Compared to the JW where the pool deck is tired and the chairs are uncomfortable. The gym here is also huge and has 5 Pelotons. There are only two minor issues that restrict me from giving this a 5 star review. First, there is no shower door. I hate this. As a result you are cold and everything gets wet. I wish they would just put a door on. Second, the towels in the room were low quality. After building a beautiful hotel and maintaining it so well, I cannot understand why they wouldn't have high quality fluffy towels? They had everything else right in the room except these two minor annoyances. Read less

Brean Kelly is the best employee I’ve ever encountered, I seriously wondered if he was Jesus Christ reincarnate. Give this man a raise, promote him to the CEO of this hotel chain. I would vote for him for president no doubt. Talk to this man for 5 minutes and you will want to leave your newborn baby to be raised by this guy. STRAIGHT UP BEST MAN… Read more

From the second we pulled up at the curb service was 5 Star. If there was a 6 I’d happily post it. Nicolas at the front desk checked us right in, and gave us a quick preview of the hotels layout. Prior to coming we had several requests to the hotel’s Concierge ,Saige. She is top notch and communicated promptly, and met all of requests and made our dinner reservations. The Thompson is new and absolutely beautiful. We had the pleasure of eating on site at Arriba and Abajo for lunch and dinner. It’s so good. Their Chicken Torta is to die for. They make their own chips and serve them with three well made salsa’s. Diner Restaurant off of the lobby is their fine dining venue and should not be missed. I often try to eat outside of the hotels I visit , often finding hotel food mediocre at best. Not here- absolutely no need to go off site. Lately many of my go to hotels seem to have never recovered their service ethic since Covid. Lack of turndown , and even lack of basic competent daily housekeeping is rampant in many so called 5* Hotels. The Thompson gets that right too, with great housekeeping and ,turndown. Even more delightful is when you call the desk on the house phone it’s answered promptly and courteously. Don’t miss this one if staying in Austin Read less

The Thompson was a great place to stay. The hotel was beautiful, had a nice pool, and was conveniently located to my work (I was there for business) and to many food options. I could easily get to a trail that went around the river and lake for exercise. The best part of the hotel was the staff. You cannot find a nicer staff than this hotel.… Read more
