The hotel

They dare to be different on Sangeli island, on Malé Atoll’s north-west perimeter — where creative minds have concocted a dazzling design hotel that’s a far cry from the simplistic rustic retreats of ‘old Maldives’. Where is it

On the north-western edge of the Malé Atoll, this resort is set over two small islands linked by a curve of water villas, with the spa and two restaurants on the smaller island, and most other amenities on the larger island. Complimentary speedboat transfer to and from Malé International Airport: 50 minutes, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On arrival day, guests will be met by representatives at the airport and escorted to the speedboat jetty. A boat host will be on hand to ensure a smooth journey.

137 villas and suites, all with air-conditioning, safe, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, complimentary WiFi access, complimentary mini-bar replenished daily, iron and ironing board, mini bar, flat-screen LCD TV, bathrobe, and slippers.

Beach Villas are 81m² standalone villas facing the lagoons, and have a semi open-air bathroom, direct beach access, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Serenity Plan: All-Inclusive of: buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Courtyard, plus one visit included at either JustWok or Just Grill, for lunch or dinner, for a one to three-night stay (two visits included, for a four to seven-night stay; three visits included, for an eight to 11-night stay; four visits included for a 12-night stay and above. Pre-booking required, as per availability. Children under 16 years can dine at specialty restaurants during dinner only). Freshly prepared local afternoon snacks at the Hedhikka Hut. A selection of drinks including regular international brands spirits, wines, and beers, cocktails, mocktails, soft drinks, mineral water, tea and coffee from The Courtyard, JustWok, Just Grill, The Sangs Bar, One Banyan Bar and The Rock. In-room mini-bar (beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks, replenished once per day). Water sports including stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, pedalo rental and snorkelling equipment. Beach Villas with Pool feature a 13m² private plunge pool, and direct beach access ,with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Water Villas are set over the ocean with direct lagoon access, ocean view bathtub and rain shower, private sundeck with loungers, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Water Villas with pool are the same as water villas, with the addition of an outdoor bed and private pool, featuring 1 king-size bed, sleeping 2 adults.

Honeymoon Select Ocean Villas are intimate over water villas with a private pool, sunset views, and an outdoor shower, sleeping maximum 2 adults. These villas include direct check-in at your villa, welcome bottle of champagne with canapés and fruit platter, dine-around in all three restaurants throughout the stay, one couples massage per stay (for stays of 4 nights or more), special evening turn-down service, dedicated butler service, and in-villa breakfast once during stay.

Two Bedroom Beach Pool Suites feature two open-air bathrooms, spacious living area, direct beach access, veranda with comfy daybed, and a private pool. One master bedroom has 1 king-size bed, with the secondary bedroom featuring twin beds, sleeping maximum 4 adults.

It was first trip to Maldives which was planned just 1 week before the trip. We were quite apprehensive about the stay but to our suprise it was the wonderful stay at select sangeli. We felt that 4 nights are too short for such beautiful island resort. Starting from pick up at airport to departure, everything was fabulous and well planned. The rooms were cozy, beach were clean and the main pool is happening place. We are also thankful to upgrade of our water villa. The food at every restaurant was yummy. The spa and the excursion were very meticulously planned and executed. We have three suggestions to improve the facility. 1. The boat should be upgraded to AC since my wife and kid have motion sickness as well as the smell of diesel also bothers. The same may be true for many travellers. It may be upgraded the AC boat ride. 2. Buggie service can be improved. After our dinner at the Wok restaurant, we had to wait 50 minutes. 3. The beach villas may have one additional phone outside the room or some additional phone booth can be placed at some intervals. The room keys didn't work. To change the keys and request staff through, had to walk when everyone was sleepy. Read less

We stayed for 8 nights at the Oblu Sengali. The resort is lovely, amazing views, great beaches and staff are fantastic. Bonus is the complimentary add ons such as the massages and boat trips, really nice touch. Arrival process at the airport smooth and welcoming. Short walk across the road to the boat. Transfer 50 mins....boat could do with an upgrade, there was a strong smell of petrol which was very un pleasant. Welcome from staff good, arrived around midday. Rooms not ready till 2pm. Freshened up with a shower in the "check in/check out area" near the kids club and headed for lunch at the buffet. Buffet generally good but could be better, probably the one area that lets the resort down, selection sometimes limited with regards to veg in the evening. As always exceptional staff in the restaurant, friendly, smiling and helpful. Indian curry night was excellent. Reefs around the resort are great, lots off fish with the odd shark and turtle. Service was amazing! Everything as expected in the pictures. The bungalows were spacious and magic. Food was very good as well. The experience is very relaxing but also they offer live music in the bar at nights and that was amazing. Definitely recommend. Look for Sara! She was the best! Very beautiful person.

very unforgettable experience and warm-hearted staff, I wanna mention Laura, she offered detailed introduction to us and treated us very patiently. Only one thing I am not happy is our honeymoon dinner, service is OK, but food is really poor. In the end, we even didn't get our dessert and had no choice but to take from buffet.

My husband and I stayed at Oblu Select Sangeli in April 2024 for our honeymoon. It was absolutely perfect! We were greeted at the airport and transferred onto the boat quickly where we enjoyed a calm 55 minute transfer to the hotel. We arrived at Sangeli with a warm welcome. Our host Sara explained everything to us, checked through the bookings that had been made for us on their app and helped us rearrange a couple of them. Our room wasn’t quite ready so Sara showed us to Sangs bar and explained lunch would be available soon. She came back to meet us when our room was ready and took us to our room (room 406: a water villa, no pool). The room was stunning! Throughout our 10 day holiday we were blown away by the staff. They are what really makes Sangeli great and are a credit to the hotel. They really couldn’t do enough for you. Our room attendant Thohir ensured our room was spotless every day and created some lovely bed decorations to celebrate both or honeymoon and my birthday. The team at Sangs bar were attentive and always checking if we needed any more drinks when we around the bar, pool and beach area. Big shout out to Ahmed in particular at the Sangs Bar for the great service! The food in the buffet restaurants and the al a carte restaurants (Just Wok and Just Grill) was top notch. We also had a pool lunch on the adult only island one day which made a nice change. The buffet always had plenty of selection - freshly prepared salads, live cooking stations for curries & grilled meat & fish, a pasta station and international dishes. I’d highly recommend the dosas at breakfast! The ladies at the spa are incredible. We had 3 massages each during our stay (2 included per person plus an extra one we paid for). Definitely visit the spa! We did the sunset fishing trip which was included. We didn’t catch any fish (nor did any of the other guests) but the amazing sunset on the way back to the island more than made up for this. That sunset is one of our favourite memories of our holiday. The beach was pristine. The white sands and turquoise waters that we dreamed of. I’d recommend taking some beach shoes with you as there can be some rather sharp pieces of broken coral on the water line. If I had one tiny complaint it would be the lack of air conditioning in the bathroom but I’m being picky at this point! We’d always said a holiday in the Maldives was a ‘once in a lifetime holiday’ but we had such an amazing holiday we’re determined to go back! If like me, you’ve read hundreds of TripAdvisor reviews searching for the perfect Maldives island, look no further and book Oblu Select Sangeli! Read less
