The hotel

All-suite and all-inclusive, the Ravenala Attitude is styled in contemporary, colonial and tropical hues. With an open-plan, no boundaries design, the restaurants and bars flow seamlessly towards the pool, gardens and beach beyond. But it’s not all about appearances — it goes deeper. Its ‘Culinary Voyage’ takes you from Asia to Italy in nine restaurants, six of which you can sample as part of your All-Inclusive package. You can tuck into 'Granmamas' Mauritian fare at Kot Nou, street-food takeaways on the beach at Taba-J, and enjoy the romance of the floating Riviera restaurant. The kids' clubs provide various fun activities, whilst the Sport Village and Boat House offer endless diversions, from kayaking along Rivière Citron to riverbank yoga. And the hotel's ‘Otentik’ concept gives you a true insight into Mauritius, in cookery classes, local music, a self-guided tours app, and a weekly ‘Otentik Bazar’, with all profits from the ‘made in Mauritius’ goodies going to the craftspeople. You can even dine on ‘Otentik Dinners’ with locals in their homes. This charming resort is great for families, with large rooms and a range of activities, whilst couples will love staying in the Executive Seafront Adult Suites in the adults-only section.

We chose Ravenala based on the reviews we had read that mostly raved about most aspects of the resort. And after spending 7 days here, we were not disappointed. Our room in the adults-only section was large and had a sea view, a big balcony, and a private stretch of beach with reserved beanbags. The resort is very well maintained, with two large sparkling pools, a safe main beach, and access to water sports included. A huge plus for us was the "all inclusive" option which, in addition to the main buffet restaurant includes access to about 8 restaurants offering different a la carte menu's, which were mostly excellent. One innovation we appreciated was the "Pantry" where you go to stock your mini-bar, a large selection of complimentary items were available there. Nightly entertainment added to the holiday atmosphere. We found the staff to be very helpful and attentive. One downside we noticed was some aspects of the catering in the main buffet restaurant, with cold plates, side dishes often lukewarm, bland and lacking in flavor. Breakfast could definitely have been better, it was difficult to obtain a tasty bacon and egg breakfast. If we were to compare this breakfast with virtually any hotel in South Africa, it would come up lacking ! But this was really a minor criticism, overall a highly recommended stay for Mauritius !! We have just returned home after a week at the Ravenala Attitude hotel to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, following a lovely week in the South of the island first. We thought we couldn’t be lucky enough to get another amazing hotel with a stunning view from a very well appointed room but we were not disappointed. We had a brilliant taxi transfer between hotels from Fasil & were met by Steve the porter who took charge of our luggage & kindly delivered it to our room very quickly. Then the delightful Selvana greeted us, took us to a lovely comfy area in reception where there was a lovely view of the resort & a cooling breeze. She then provided us with cool towels & a lemongrass infusion drink which was so delicious I had 2!! Selvana then checked us in very efficiently & gave us a thorough tour of the hotel on the way to our room. Amazing service because there are so many bars & restaurants here, it was great to have that knowledge straightaway rather than spend quite a bit of time trying to work out where everything was located. When we finally arrived at our room, there was another wow moment, it was located in the adults only part of the hotel (we were in room 3215) again, the bed was facing the stunning view, situated right on the beach, looking at nothing but the sea, the boats & the other side of the bay, magical. There was a lovely comfy rocking chair which I regularly took out onto the patio at the end of the day to watch the sunset. The other lovely bonus was finding out that we had designated beanbag sunbeds (so comfy) & an umbrella on the beach for our exclusive use, so convenient. Selvana then left us to settle in but then arranged for a celebration cake with candle to be delivered to our table that evening at dinner, thank-you so much for your kindness. The first night was a little restless because we found the mattress & pillows a little too hard. The next day, we bumped into a member of staff who asked how we were settling in, I mentioned the pillows &, within 10 minutes he had returned with 2 much softer pillows which were so comfortable. Thank you Bheemul. I then left a note for the housekeeping team, requesting an extra mattress topper if possible & came back to our room to find they had added a really extra padded topper to our bed, needless to say we slept so well for the rest of our stay. Our housekeepers were Pooja & Meeta & also Sabneez took care of our room too. They work so hard & cleaned our room to a very high standard every day. Thank you for taking such good care of us. Food was a little changeable, we were disappointed with the Mozaik buffet restaurant on occasions, as often the food was cold & most breakfast times the fruit & yoghurt had run out & not replenished but it’s a busy hotel & so hard to please everyone & it was only a minor niggle. The speciality restaurants were a treat though, we ate in the Italian, Asian, Mauritian & the Bistrot, & had a superb meal in all 4 places. Special thanks to all staff but especially Dimitry in Madame Mings. Also not forgetting the Lime restaurant, this was an extra cost in the evening but was included for lunch on AI so we visited it regularly as it was conveniently placed right on the beach near our sunbeds. We had the most amazing sushi & tempura there ever. Extra special thanks to our waiter Avinash & Chef Muzamir & Chef Avish. I also went to the POV spa for a wonderful massage, thank-you to receptionist Venise & my masseuse Irisha. Our final thanks go to a very special young man who really did make our holiday extra special with his never ending, cheerful smile & politeness, not to mention walking up & down the beach all day, between the sunbeds & the bar, bringing us our drinks. Not far into the holiday, he already knew our order & would often just bring us a drink without even needing to ask. Kishan, you are one very special person & an absolute asset to the hotel. Thank you for looking after us so well, we are very grateful. Also thanks to Rai who covered for him on Kishan’s day off. Thank you Ravenala for helping us to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in style. Read less
