The hotel

Those torn between ‘contemporary chic’ and ‘utterly authentic’ needn’t choose – after a radical revamp, Tropical Attitude promises both. All bold geometric design and luxe natural touches, this adults-only retreat gives grownups that boutique hotel feel and a genuine Mauritian experience. It starts with its location – facing a turquoise lagoon, just a free shuttle ride from the beautiful beaches at Ile aux Cerfs, it’s near the traditional fishing village of Trou d’Eau Douce. And it continues with its attitude – with real Mauritius found everywhere from its spa treatments to its experiences, including cookery lessons, a weekly ‘Made in Mauritius’ market, and home-cooked dinners at local families’ homes. Dining at Tropical Attitude is equally authentic, whether you’re at its intimate Kot Nou restaurant (which seats just 20 guests), tucking into Mauritian street food from TABA-j, or taking one of its picnic baskets over to Ile aux Cerfs. Book into one of the newer villas to enjoy a private pool all to yourselves, perfect for a special occasion.

Lovely hotel on the east coast of Mauritius, about an hour from the airport. This is an ‘Eco’ friendly hotel which i very much approved of. We stayed all-inclusive which is probably a must as there is nothing in the vicinity where you could go for dinner. The staff are friendly and welcoming particularly Christoph in the dining room, always smiling and friendly and Karen who knew everyone by name. Not sure i fully agree with the scanning of QR codes everywhere to access the menus, as i found them confusing due to them having prices on - we were left unsure if they were included in the AI package. I don’t see the problem in having a room directory as it wasn’t until our last day that we found the T-bar. Our room overlooked the sea which was very nice to look out on. The room was somewhat tired but it was cleaned every day and we had our towels made in to animals each day. There was a fridge in the room, but no bottle opener to open the drinks from the tuck shop. There were also lots of sockets for charging appliances. The pillows and bed were comfy. Nice inclusion of boat trips to the coral reef and nearby island for a change of scenery. Breakfast was buffet style and very enjoyable and lunch was cooked to order from the menu good burgers and pizza. Dinner was buffet style and slightly repetitive but we were happy over all. We did have a problem with the al a carte restaurant but this was taken seriously by both the head chef and executive chef. The hotel has 2 gorgeous dogs, although only one has been adopted by the hotel. I did see the rusty coloured one is cared for by a charity and i felt this could have been promoted by the hotel to make visitors aware of the good work being done. I also thought a collection box for the charity could be put out as both dogs were calm and friendly and i particularly enjoy a hotel dog (or cat) as i have to leave my own at home. Not sure i would return to this particular hotel as i do like to have a wander round and there for the other side may have been better. We did a northern tour with Get Your Gide and also got the bus from the end of the road to Flaque. Read less
