For starters, if you have not been to Barbados, be prepared to exit the plane 1960’s style. Walking down the stairs onto the tarmac and guided inside. We used a fast track service and really helped us get through in less Han 30 minutes. Our neighbors at the resort, and also on the plane. Arrived while we were already checked in waiting for a drink at the bar. This was also the first time we had the newer swim out rooms. It was amazing. We have had swim outs before at SRC. But the sun shelf here was astounding and really made the mornings, afternoons and evening that much more to have a quiet semi-private place to hop in the pool. Going into the trip, we were amazed having 20+ places for dinner over our 7 nights. All of the restaurants we did make it to, really stepped up the level of food service I can now expect from future stays. The new and freshness of places like the Greenhouse, although tough to find, was a fresh take on both breakfast and diner. We went to the American Tavern twice for breakfast, but the food and environment was so much better and any of the other sit down places for breakfast. Although, they should place something on the lamps over the tables at Portifino to prevent the birds from landing. Didn’t have an issue, but….you get it. We actually had the same lunch for three days during the trip at Neptunes. Talking with other guests that we recognized from a trip last year at Sandals Royal Caribbean, they also repeated their lunches a couples time here. I did miss the Jamaican beef/chicken patties. Our first night we thought going to the tavern was right, but ended up at Soy and had some of the best Sushi at Sandals ever. This resort was so large, and beautiful. One of the first evenings, I got lost trying to navigate between the two resorts. Having restaurants on the other side of the guest drop-off portico was a new one for us which threw me in circles. We were able to go up and enjoy the Skybar a couple times. We never stayed at the sky poll, because we did not find much shade options. The views were fantastic and the breeze always kept you cool. The bowling alley bar was cool. Didn’t play, still don’t like borrowed shoes. But there were also some fun interactive table games in the bar. There are several “public” pools between the two resorts to enjoy. The rooms with private pools tended to be toward the further area from the beach. The beach was about 4-5 rows deep of chairs. If you wanted to sit in the from row, and do not have a butler, you will need to have a seat at around 6:50 and don’t leave until about 7:30. We really didn’t care, and always found a place with the right amount of sun/shade. The wind and shade will make you forget the sun you are getting so, make sure o apply your sunscreen regularly and often. This trip we received recognition for our Diamond status. It was great to get to have that quick opportunity to say a thank you to the GM Lucky. But running into Charles the Hotel manager as often as we did was truly impressive. Pitching in to help a bartender fix the CO2 tank, to covering for a hostess at breakfast. We were lucky enough to sit with him for a lunch and he truly is on top of the need of the resort and knows how to handle any crazy situation. I was happy that he keeps a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday afternoons with some of his fellow managers. If we didn’t have two trips already booked, we would have rebooked the same rooms and everything again. Read less

Just returned from a fabulous visit to Sandals. Loved the resort, the facilities, the food , the people. Sandals is always a high quality experience. So many people work so hard to make it special. Will call out 3 of the team who went above and beyond Ariella, Chadrich and Husani. Hope to see them again soon!

We went to Sandals Royal Barbados (SRB) January 2024. This was our 3rd visit to SRB, having also been to Sandals Barbados (SB) twice. We arrived at the Sandals desk outside the airport at 3:20 and the minibus arrived at 3:40. On this occasion they gave out bottles of cold water, I don’t remember this happening the previous year. We arrived at the SRB Concierge at 4:00 with 4 other couples. Having checked-in online, the formalities were quick and we were soon in our room. Our room type was JP which can be in either the Hibiscus or the Poinciana building. We had requested to be on the upper floor, so we were disappointed that we were taken to room 9134 on the ground floor of the Poinciana building. This room is nearest the Reception/Lobby, also the steps up to the upper floor are built onto side wall of our room so we were concerned by the possibility of noise from both. In reality we had occasional noise from buses during the day but nothing serious. We never heard a sound from other rooms or the steps. Despite our initial disappointment, once settled we were very happy with the room which, despite being one of the lower ranked rooms, was a good size (about 21 x 13 feet plus 13 x 13 bathroom with very large shower and twin basins). There was a large cupboard for hanging cloths and a vast amount of drawer space. There were twin US style power sockets with twin USB charger outlets each side of the bed and a single UK socket one side. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge with beer, white wine and soft drinks and a cupboard with spirits and red wine. The room was in good condition with no significant sign of wear. The Air Con worked well. The hotels’ grounds were kept beautifully by an army of gardeners. SRB and SB are treated as one resort, all facilities are available to everyone regardless of whether your room is in SB or SRB. There are 4 pools in SRB and 2 in SB. There are also the swim-up pools which most, in theory, can be used by guests not occupying swim-up rooms but I don’t believe this happens. We only sat by the South Seas pool. The main Infinity pool is the noisy one with loud music and activities for much of every day. The others are much more tranquil. Sunbeds are the biggest issue. Virtually every sunbed on the beach and around the pools is taken by about 8am. Butlers are allowed to reserve beds from 6am and guests from 7am. If you want a particular location you need to be up before the butlers and occupy the beds until 7am because management have started to enforce the 7am rule. If you’re not particular about the location then 7am or soon after is ok. We are always up early so it was no hardship to get to the pool before the butlers and stay there until 7 before going to breakfast. For anyone who likes a lay-in it could be a big problem without a butler. For the first 5 days of our stay there was a “convention” of, reportedly, 400 Milwaukee Tool Company employees/partners celebrating the company’s centenary. There were mumblings about them taking over the beach and, indeed, there were several special events for them but it often appeared to be beneficial to other guests as they were not occupying the normal facilities and it was easier to find sunbeds etc during their stay. The sunbed situation became noticeably worse when they departed and were replaced by regular guests. On the day we arrived we were able to book most of the restaurants that required reservations at the Club Concierge. For each day of our stay we asked what was available at 6:30 or 7:00 (the time we prefer to eat) and the concierge was able to offer at least one restaurant almost every day. You need to be flexible and not want a specific restaurant on a specific day. On the two days (out of 10) we couldn’t get a reservation we eat at Portofinos and Schooners. We ate dinner at Portofinos, Schooners, Greenhouse, La Parisienne, Butch’s Steak and Seafood, Butch’s Chophouse and Chi. We had good meals in all of them except Chi where the Pork Balls were so hard as to be inedible and the meat in the Lo Mein was very tough, other guests we spoke to had good experiences of Chi (as we did the previous years) so we must have been unlucky this time (though it should not be a question of luck). The steak in Portofinos was also not as good as it used to be. In most restaurants from sitting down to finishing a 3 course meal took between 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes which we thought was reasonable (occasionally on the slow side). The Evening Attire specified for some restaurants appears to have been unofficially relaxed, men are being admitted in tailored shorts. I think this is a good move but should be made official. We did see a man refused entry in denim shorts. But a man was also allowed in wearing a (scruffy) T-shirt which I think was wrong. There is no dress code for women and have, on occasion, seen women in the restaurants of other Sandals resorts in ultra short denim shorts which again I think is wrong for Evening Attire. The vast majority of ALL the staff (and there are lots of them) were polite and very helpful. If I had to single out a single employee for a shout-out it would have to be Ann-Marie in Heart and Sol who always made our daily lunch time visits extra enjoyable. We only experienced 2 exceptions to this universal standard of good service and politeness (out of possibly 100’s) – one day at Spices at breakfast the lady wanted to show us to the upper level of tables and when we asked to go to a front table, there was a very pronounced roll of the eyes, and in Sweet n Salty one day there was a young lady who gave the impression she did not want to be there. Guests have reported poor bar service but we found the opposite (at least at the South Seas pool), I was usually served in well under half a minute of arriving, the Sky bar in the evening was slower only because there were so many guests and only 2 bar tenders. It’s a small bar so putting more staff on may be counter productive. The seaweed situation is not good. We did not go into the sea so don’t know how much was floating around but the shoreline was showing several days’ worth with apparently no attempt to clear it. One day a machine appeared and attempted to gather the seaweed from the shoreline but failed. The following day some men were raking it into piles but we didn’t stay to see what happened to it. Since our visit last year Spices, Portofinos and the Main stage and may be other places have had their seating renewed, this was definitely required in Portofinos. Since Covid there is no longer a notepad, pen, slippers or information folder in the bedrooms, nor the Sandals necklace given out at the Returning Guests dinner (not a great loss). The Spa no longer offers a 30minute Couples Massage. Sandals Select members who used to get this free now get a $150 credit instead which will not get you much in the Spa. Tours – We can recommend Ted’s Tours (Google Teds Tours Barbados). We spoke to a couple who went on it this year. It’s changed a little since we went on it a few years ago but sounds just as good. I think it’s US$90 pp. TO SUM UP - TWO MAJOR POINTS – the sunbed situation and the restaurant booking (I think we struck lucky for the restaurants on our holiday). Would we go to SRB again –YES and NO. Yes because it’s a good hotel, it has its failings but overall the service, food and facilities are good, the sunbed situation is the greatest negative but it didn’t bother us as we are early risers. For us, because we have been before, we know what we are going to get. No we are unlikely to go again because the prices have risen too much and there are better value alternatives on Barbados and other Caribbean islands. Things that could be improved – A very minor point - in Café de Paris and Sweet n Salty the hot drinks are served in paper cups which are too hot to hold for more than a few seconds. Sometimes they put the cup in a second cup and sometimes they give you a napkin to wrap around the cup. Neither works very well especially if you want to carry the cup a fair distance. Either provide proper insulating sleeves or purpose made carriers with holes in that carry either 2 or 4 cups (usually made of recycled cardboard). The airport transfer needs to be faster. When you’ve just got off a long flight you don’t want to be standing around in the heat for 20 minutes waiting for your transfer. Read less

We are here on day 7 of 8 and wanted to provide an overview of our stay. This is our 5th all-inclusive vacation together over the last year and half and our first visit to Sandals RB. We chose this location for our wedding, and it was the best decision! We had a small, intimate wedding on the private island with 6 of our family and friends. We chose to hire a photographer off the resort and we can say that was the absolute greatest decision! If you we wish to reach out, I’m happy to help in any way. If you need a wedding photographer or want to get some great photos while you are in the Bahamas, I highly recommend reaching out to Christina Ysaguirre Photography! She is incredible and you will not be disappointed! Overall, we give the resort 4.5 stars and here’s how we see it. Room: 5 stars Great location (EB beachfront club level room 315), comfortable bed and pillows, plenty of space, very clean and quiet and great views! Room service: 5 stars Food was good, quick and hot. We liked the BLT’s, cheeseburger and jerk chicken salad were a few things we tried. Food: 4 stars Food was good, probably the best out of the resorts we have tried (Hardrock, Iberostar, and RIU) but selection is limited. The best meals we had were lunch on the island at Aralia House and dinners at Butch’s and Tesoro were really good. Cons would be that reservations are limited and dinners usually take 2 hours to get through the entire meal. Service in the restaurants was slow, assuming due to minimal staff. Drinks: 3.5 stars Finding a good drink here was a challenge. Most of the week we ended up drinking water and Tito’s with Mio added (that we brought from home). Service at the bars were extremely slow. Weekends definitely had more staff and drinks/food by the pool was much more readily available. Private Island Access: Understand you are on an island and it is highly affected by the weather. When we first arrived, the island boat was back and forth throughout the day, however about mid week the wind created challenges to dock at the resort pier and caused the island to be closed most days so if the boat is running, I recommend going over early in your stay to make sure you are able to visit! It’s an incredible location and the food, service and bar was amazing! When it’s open, we give it 5 stars! Entertainment: 0 stars as it was extremely limited and uninteresting which was unfortunate and not sure if this is across Sandals or this particular location. Sweets-n-Tings - 5 stars! We had our coffee/lattes every morning here and Tommacina was absolutely amazing…very friendly and always had a smile on her face! 😊 Gym: 4.5 stars. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because it is relatively a small space and can be crowded in the mornings. It’s a beautiful gym, all the equipment you may need and very clean. It overlooks the whole resort and has great views of the picturesque location. Location of RB: 5 stars This is probably the most beautiful spot in the Caribbean that we have been to this far. We’ve been to Mexico, Jamaica, and Aruba. The water is unbelievably beautiful! The sand is very soft and there are plenty of beach or chairs by the pool. Wedding: 5 stars Our wedding took place on the private island! I am an A personality, very organized, and like to know ALL the details. I’ll be the first to say, I had some anxiety trying to plan a wedding in another country but if this is something you want to do, know that this is one of Sandals areas of expertise and they did a phenomenal job at recreating everything we asked for. Rochelle was our on property wedding coordinator- very organized and on top of everything! From the flowers, to the wedding setup, the food, etc! It was absolutely a 5 star experience and it was the wedding of our dreams! Again, cannot say enough about our photographer, Christina! She definitely did amazing at blending in and capturing all the amazing moments in our day! RedLane Spa: 5 stars Lynette did a phenomenal job on my hair and makeup! So happy with everything. She literally looked at a couple photos and recreated it in a way that was best suited for my style and skintone. I would definitely recommend the hair and makeup trial. It made my wedding day get ready time very relaxing. We also had massages and cannot say enough about Adrianna and Kerry Ann! Such wonderful deep tissue massages and well worth the money! Excursions: 5 stars We did the Reggae Catamaran Snorkeling Cruise! The people, the coral reef, the food and music were all wonderful! Overall, the resort is well kept, clean, and we will be back.
