Just returned from a 7 night holiday. This was our second time in Barbados but first at this hotel. There are some flabbergasting negative reviews on this place and we did come with a little apprehension but also an open mind as we do every time we travel. I can honestly say we had a fabulous time and could not find fault. In fact I sat one day and re read some of the nasty reviews, I had a little titter about what some people found ‘awful or terrible’ about the hotel. I mean how awful must it be to actually have to ‘get up and get your own drinks’? Or have to walk up some stairs everyday to your room? Or have to get your feet wet to get to the beach…. I mean come on??? We didn’t see any miserable staff because we always greeted them and made them feel like they were doing us a great service and enquired about their day. Perhaps people who did encounter miserable staff were the people who are always moaning and have too high expectations. So if you want to be waited on and treated like royalty you should go next door and pay Sandy Lane prices for Sandy Lane Service! This is a lovely hotel, relaxed, friendly staff, excellent location. Food was always fresh and cooked to perfection and the cocktails were divine! The rooms are comfortable and cleaned everyday, we were lucky enough to have a beachfront loft room that enabled us to hear the ocean and see the beautiful sunsets from our window. Caroline and her staff made us feel very welcome and to be approached by Caroline more than once to ask if everything was ok was very personal to us and she was genuinely appreciative of the praise for her work because if I had to read some of the things people moan about I’d be pretty disheartened. I would encourage anyone to stay at this hotel and before you write your review or criticise something try adapting to your new environment because after all don’t you go on holiday for a ‘change’ something a little different from home? Feel lucky and fortunate that you are able to afford to travel to such destinations and look for positives in everything. What’s written on here can really put people off but I bet you go home and tell your family and friends what a wonderful time you’ve had! It’s great value for money and worth booking if in any doubt you won’t be disappointed. Read less

Where do I start? Arrived Sunday 14 April at around 8pm after a long day travelling. We were greeted by a very miserable. curt young lady who clearly did not want to be there and she was the same every time we went to reception - not a good start. We were allocaed room 462 and our friends had 463, both room were on the fourth floor it was ok getting to third flor and the we had to go up a very slim spiral staircase that only had handrails at a couple of points and had no natural light and the bottom light was not working and the top light was very dim. The room was an ok size but had no outside space or balcony. There was only one ceiling light and no power points near a mirror so very difficult to see to do your hair. Our friends also had dead cockroaches in their room which were not cleaned up for 2 days. After 5 nights we had had enough of trying to tackle the spiral staircase so asked to move which was a better room with a balcony but with a very small bathroom and again no decent light of power points near a mirror. We also did not have our room cleaned as they came to do it between 4pm-5pm when we were back in the room after being at the pool all day. My husband asked for a early morning clean but all they did was make the bed. It was a very basic all inclusive as thee was no bar service around the pool and you had to get your own drinks which were served in a variation of plastic classes sometimes you had a cocktail or beer in a very small tumbler which was ridiculous. On our last day we were not being picked up until 2m but had to be out of our room by middday we asked for an extension which they refused. crazy. bearing in mind that they did not clean the room until 4pm so yet again my husband complained and we could have it until1pm. At night the grounds were very poorly lit and the whole hotel area was very tired and needed a good clean up. The entertainmnet was dire and too loud as you could not hear yourselves talk over dinner because of the noise. A couple of god oints. the food and the majority of the staff were lovely. We had a great holiday with our friends but we were very disappointed with the hotel which was not cheap and I would never return nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Read less

I would urge anyone to ignore the negative reviews of this Hotel, they are simply not true. .or are the view of a very picky individual ,who would find fault with the best Hotel in the World!!! It is true that it is not Five Star.. but you don't need this in Barbados... The Rooms are clean, showers great, Air Conditioning works, huge beds with lovely bed linen, we upgraded to a Superior Ground Floor room with Garden View and Terrace. .which was fine.. The Staff are Friendly, and if something is not right it gets sorted... Food was always excellent and a varied choice of Menu. .Breakfasts were very good with Freshly made omelettes with contents of your choice, and an Egg Station or the lighter option ..a freshly made Granola, with Yoghurt and Fresh Fruit. We were in a large group of Twelve people, and it worked very well, we tended to use sunbeds ,just above the edge of the Beach Wall, if you are a Beach dweller you can walk to the Beach at Sandy Lane, next door. .superb, and totally Turquoise waters . You can carefully negotiate down the steps to the Beach and Snorkel, as there is a large shoal of colourful fish that patrol a set of rocks 50m off the Hotel shore. .not to be missed. We stayed Ten nights ,so to break up our time of the Evening Dining Experience we booked Lone Star and QP next to 'The Cliff' which was a great atmosphere and included a Live singer that engaged the Diners ( these ideally need to be booked well in advance of your Holiday) Another Trip i would advise is a Day out on a Catamaran ,we used Good Times 2, which were excellent, a great Crew and includes two dive sites to see Fish and the Turtles (masks and snorkels provided)and a super Lunch, and you get to meet different people. The Return at the end of a five hour trip was totally under Sail, so absolutely superb. The Beach Bar is also a place to enjoy. .and Rum Punches where Standard measures don't seem to apply. .Great Fun ..again Staff always Happy and want to ensure you enjoy your stay...Branded Spirits are used ie Gordons Gin ,Tanqueri and Grey Goose etc.. We will definitely be returning and cant wait till our next Trip. Read less
