Mount Cinnamon

Grenada, Caribbean

The hotel

This little hamlet of hideaways creeps up the lush hillside from Grand Anse Beach, one of Grenada’s most sought-after shores. Subtle and sophisticated, its 31 villas and suites are capped with terracotta roofs and dressed in soothing beach chic décor – but each has a pop of ‘seaside sunshine’ in homage to your Caribbean setting (if your sea view isn’t enough). The chic pool follows suit, with wooden furniture in vibrant colours, while the beach brings calm with its rattan love seats, beachside spa treatments and yoga, complimentary non-motorised water sports, and Beach Cabana restaurant, serving barbecue lunches steps from the turquoise waters. Many villas have their own kitchen, but most head to Savvy’s for dinner anyway, where produce from Mount Cinnamon Resort & Beach Club’s garden and nearby plantations confirm its status as a leading eco-lodge.

My husband and I just got back from an amazing stay at Mount Cinnamon. I would highly recommend this boutique hotel AND I would love to return to it. The entire staff is awesome, and the beach is gorgeous! Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Spacious room. Two bathrooms, a very large bedroom, sitting area, kitchen, perfect balcony with benches and a table for coffee, eating and relaxing. The balcony was awesome, and we used it a lot. Our view was gorgeous. In room : the toiletries are really nice, and there is a hairdryer, a safe, and bathrobes in the room. They even have a beach bag you can use for the beach and mosquito repellent. (They think of everything.) Our room even had a washer and dryer, which comes in handy when you are trying to travel light. I brought detergent pods with me, and laundry was easy. A/C is great, our room was nice and cool. No issues with WiFi. They give you a cell phone to use during your stay, which helps make getting around the island a little easier. The staff is amazing: they helped us settle in and gave us a tour of our room upon arrival, and a quick orientation of the property. They were eager to help us book tours, make supper reservations, book taxis, and gave us many tips that came in handy during our stay. The beach: It’s a gorgeous walk down the hill to the beach! At the beach, they have plenty of beach towels, so no need to carry a lot down to the beach. They have chairs with umbrellas available (at no extra cost) and if there is not one set up when you get to the beach, all you have to do is ask... they will quickly set up chairs for you wherever you want them. The beach bar is right there for drinks and food. The beach is beautiful and calm. You can walk to other nearby beach bars and restaurants as well. The Pool: It is near the rooms and very nice. There is a bar right beside it. Fitness Center: small fitness room with the basics. Great for a quick workout. Location: Great location. Again, you can walk to other beach bars, the beach is beautiful, and you can walk on the road to a nearby supermarket. Tip: Bring a sleep mask if you’re sensitive to sunlight. The rooms are filled with beautiful natural light. Con: The one and ONLY con I have is the flies are horrible at breakfast. There is not much to do about that when we were there, since it was the rainy season, so it's not a criticism, but just an observation. That’s seriously the only con I have of the entire property! Breakfast is very basic but all other meals and homemade ice cream are on point ! The beach is almost like a private beach so day time swimming is perfect and relaxing. We had some dinners on the beach and that added to the Caribbean experience. Love the s’mores that we roasted one night with Grenadian chocolate. Yum The bedrooms were also very comfortable and felt very clean. Overall a great stay and highly recommend ! Read less

I legitimately am having a hard time coming up with the accuracy in my praise for this resort. We were greeted by Mark the general manager and made to feel like we were entering his home instead of a boutique resort. Our room was beyond our expectations with beautiful furnishings and the time taken to pay attention to the small things such as having our son’s sleep sofa set up and made. Shawna went out of her way to care for us and answer all questions so patiently and kindly- all week (I’m an inquisitive 4th grade teacher in the states). She was never flustered and always gave the very best advice! Carlene, I cannot praise enough either. Such an elegant polished professional! It was such a pleasure talking with her and learning from her at the managers cocktail reception which is a MUST! Also the Friday night bbq bonfire is also a must! Charlene (the spa manager) and Faith gave us an amazing end of week couples massage and were so kind, sweet, and attentive. Their hands were miracle workers. I can’t thank the entire staff at Mt. cinnamon enough for making our week’s stay exceptional and beautiful. We had fantastic food at the resort.....dinner our first night was fabulous and the few days we had lunch at the beach bar we were thoroughly pleased as well! Fresh local and exceptional! We had a fantastic and beautiful meal at Laluna! Do NOT miss the sunset here! Sails in St. George’s was good but we were only 1 of three tables filled. Kind of too quiet for us but food was still good. Umbrellas is better for lunch than dinner or we all simply ordered “wrong”. The Calabash resort was pricy but gorgeous! We just went for drink so cannot comment on food. The Aquarium on Magazine Beach was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon and have lunches! Mt. Cinnamons location on the beach is perfect! You’re at the far end of Grand Anse so you’re private and quiet yet only a short walk to liveliness and beach bars! My hat goes off to Mark and his staff....they made our stay on a fantastic and beautiful island even more memorable because of their hospitality and kindness! Kudos to you all..... Mount Cinnamon is everything you could ask for and more - a setting of great beauty thanks in part to the hard work of Lincoln and his grounds team who keep the gardens looking spectacular with bursts of colour and lush vegetation where the tiny birds who hop on your breakfast table, geckos, lizards and singing crickets seem as happy as the guests. The views are spectacular from Villa 10 at the top (a climb in the heat but the golf cart is always on hand for those who need it, or like us were sometimes just lazy). The villa is comfy, spacious, air-conditioned and well equipped - the one bedroom was fine for us sleeping downstairs and our 13 year old on the sofa bed upstairs, helped by having 2 bathrooms. Wadell's friendly nightly delivery of fragrantly spiced cookies was much appreciated. Breakfast was more than worth getting up for - the banana, cinnamon or coconut bread were delicious as was the juicy, ripe assortment of canteloupe, mango, papaya and watermelon, cold meats, muffins, little bites of quiche, cinnamon yoghurt and cooked breakfasts. Fresh tamarind juice and bayleaf tea were welcome novelties and the setting and views are lovely. The beach is beautiful - an expanse of white sand overlooking clear green water with plentiful comfy recliners, day beds, shelter and the delightful Cabana with its tasty lunches (loved the fish tacos and watermelon and feta salad), not to mention the cocktails (the chocolate lover's one was outrageous!), Steffon's delicious smoothies and the welcome cups of water offered whilst sunbathing. The water sports team of Seddric, Ken and Shakim were ever helpful and friendly - I loved my hobie sails with Ken, being able to use kayaks and snorkels - there is so much fascinating underwater life visible from only a few feet from the beach. On Fridays the beach is lit with a bonfire for toasting marshmallows and backlighting the drummers, dancers or steel pan musicians all of which accompany a tasty BBQ of freshly caught fish such as mahi mahi, tuna or King fish and meats and a delicious assortment of vegetables. But what makes Mount Cinnamon truly special are its warm, friendly, fun and ever-attentive team led by the excellent Manager Mark. Assistant Manager Carlene and the bubbly customer services manager Shauna alongside Tahira and Judy at reception went out of their way to suggest and organise places to visit, book the wonderful Chris to drive us everywhere (see more below), and respond to all queries - a footstool appeared by my bed when I joked about it being so high up; a delivery of fresh aloe vera did wonders for sun burn and mosquito bites. Petri-Ann's humour and morning cheer, Shakira's bravery at warding off an unwelcome large moth, Steffon, Ashlyn, Cassandra, Taurell and Kathy-Ann's adept and efficient service at meals, Sharlene's excellent massage, Dillon and Christian's concern we enjoyed their cooking were all delivered with exactly the right balance of both professional and familial warmth, humour and care. They and the many others whose names we didn't catch/remember are a truly amazing team who make Mount Cinnamon the taste of paradise it really is, from the moment we arrived to be greeted with cold flannels and a rum punch to our heartfelt departure. We highly recommend a trip round the island with Chris who takes great pride in knowing every inch, view, tree and site worth seeing: spices, rainforest and monkeys, Belmont chocolate plantation, River Antoine rum distillery and waterfalls. Another day included Laura's spice and herb garden and the lovely beach and restaurant of La Sagesse. Do make it up and over the hill to BBC beach and the tasty tacos at La Plywood and a trip to the market at St George's is definitely worth it. We also loved a morning on Wally's glass bottomed boat complete with snorkelling the sculpture park, snacks and his famous rum punch and enjoyed delicious food at Umbrellas, Sails, BBs, Patricks, Carib Sushi and Aquarium with its lovely views and turtles. Grenada is definitely a hidden gem well worth a proper visit and there is nowhere better to enjoy it from, than the fabulous Mount Cinnamon. Read less
