Mount Cinnamon

Virgin rating

The hotel

This little hamlet of hideaways creeps up the lush hillside from Grand Anse Beach, one of Grenada’s most sought-after shores. Subtle and sophisticated, its 37 luxurious villas and suites are capped with terracotta roofs and dressed in soothing beach chic décor – but each has a pop of ‘seaside sunshine’ in homage to your Caribbean setting (if your stunning sea view isn’t enough). The chic pool follows suit, with wooden furniture in vibrant colours, while the beach brings calm with its rattan love seats, beachside spa treatments and yoga, complimentary non-motorised water sports, and Beach Cabana restaurant, serving grilled lunches steps from the turquoise waters. Many villas have their own kitchen, but most head to Savvy’s for dinner anyway, where produce from Mount Cinnamon Hotel & Beach Club’s garden and nearby plantations confirm its status as a leading eco-lodge.

We have chosen Mount Cinnamon for a specific reason – we didn´t want to stay in these 4-5 Star big resort “bunkers” and so we decided to stay in this beautiful boutique-hotel. - We were welcomed with two cool rum punch drinks, our baggage was taken care of and we were driven up the hill by the hotel shuttle - Two small waters in the fridge (which unfortunately were not filled up in the next days – instead you could buy a 1,5 L bottle of water at the restaurant for USD 6 (!)… for what you get at least 4 bottles in the supermarket nearby) - We got accompanied to our “luxury hacienda suite” (which is one level higher than the Cinnamon Suite), which is more a small flat with living room, bedroom and two bathrooms. However, it has a pool view and it looks different on the webpages out there. Based on our expectations and the money we paid for this, we did not agree with this room and Laura (the manager) and team helped us, to switch to a (lower level) Cinnamon Suite, which was way better with a greater view over the bay. This is not a fault of the hotel but we need to complain with our tour operator about praising “luxury” vs. “above standard”. In the end, we enjoyed our stay at the Cinnamon Suite until our day of departure. - What was not good were the cleanliness of the 2nd room which we were checked-in. I understood, that we requested a short-term change but there should be a quick check beforehand, if everything is ok. For us, there were bloody blotches from mosquitos and other minor blotches at the blanket and sheet. Also a water blotch at the back rest of the bed is not what you expect from a 4-star hotel… However, we approached the manager and the mentioned things got fixed. - In general it should be considered, to renovate the bathrooms (especially the showers) as these feel old compared to the rest of the room. - Organization of operations – that´s a topic for itself o The reception crew is attentively, trying to serve the needs (power adapters) and also remembering the guest names – this is a small but powerful attitude which makes guests feel comfortable and welcomed. o The reception crew also proactively offered us cutted aloe-vera slices to heal our sun burn (on the next day) – we really liked that! o Beach towels… This was a bit bumpy but we ran 2x times into empty shelfs at the beach side… and needed to ask twice, until the reception were called. At the first time I even walked up to bring my room towels (after waiting 20 mins) but then meet the staff member who brought the fresh ones… o Room replacements/ restocking also very bumpy (new towels if the old ones got taken, new soap, new toilet articles) – we needed to inform the reception 3x times, which was a bit annoying, but it got fixed then rather quickly. o On a positive note, the staff are lovely and the position on Grand Anse is perfect. We saved long and hard for this holiday and although we enjoyed it, we wished we had booked elsewhere (or at the very least when it was actually properly open). o Staff of the beach cabana walked from time to time through the beach, asking if we would need any drinks / food, which we appreciated. - In general, this hotel is a really great place with one of the top spots at Grand Anse. Not sure, if the restaurant price level is adequate (e.g. USD 45 for Spaghetti with shrimps is way too expensive in our eyes) nor if the overall price level is adequate (we think it would be perfectly fit with 50% of the requested price, compared to the other really luxury resorts as Sandals or Spice). - There is a new manager (Laura), which we think and hope, will bring new organizational order and other improvements to this beautiful hotel - Although we really liked the area, the style of the hotel and the beach, we do not agree with the price vs. value (and that could be also a thing for the entire Caribbean Sea): o Price per night comparable high o Variety and quality of breakfast buffet very standard (although the egg meals were really delicious!) Another guest review which we fully can agree with is from Cayugadave: (despite the renovation work): https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g17308732-d969710-r936998955-Mount_Cinnamon_Resort_Beach_Club-The_Lime_St_George_s_Saint_George_Parish_Grena.html Read less

The room was generally well cleaned each day and there was turn down service as well. The property is well kept and nicely planted. The walk to the beach through the lawn garden was lovely. Keep in mind that the name of the resort is Mount Cinnamon. The walk from the beach to the villa is all uphill and it is a steep climb with many stairs. Grand Anse Beach is beautiful. There were ample loungers and umbrellas or you can sit under the trees. The water was beautiful. At times there were mild issues with seaweed, like many Caribbean beaches, but the staff cleaned it up thoroughly. Drink service is available on the beach and there is a bar/restaurant. Included breakfast is served at Savvy’s and is tasty and varied. From fresh baked breads to omelets made to order with ample fruit, yogurt and local dishes Savvy’s does a very good job. The staff at Mount Cinnamon are lovely and helpful, very gracious! Read less

Beautiful views - from our Cinnamon Suite with huge windows to the sea and headland; and from the breakfast terrace across the gardens to the sea. Pool attractive with waterfall, and great at night lit with the flames .Often had the pool to ourselves and good depth to swim in. Lovely quiet beach and plenty of sunloungers. Good atmosphere at beach BBQ with live music and torches to light walk down. Enjoyed live music by pool too. Managers very friendly. Room very spacious and comfy. Would have liked a choice of chocolate pastry every morning rather than occasionally, a choice of juice at breakfast rather than just the daily special, cafe latte to be available at the beach and pool bars, and more choice on the lunchtime menu at the beach bar. My stay at Mount Cinnamon was just amazing! The staff were super friendly, our 2-bedroom villa was spacious, clean and had all necessary amenities. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet! I would definitely recommend and stay here again!
