UNICO 20 87

Riviera Maya, Mexico

The hotel

There’s a certain sense of exclusivity at UNICO 20°N 87°W, a high-end adult-only haven on the white sands of the Riviera Maya. It might be because of the Anfitrión ‘butlers’ taking care of everything from unpacking to preparing spa tubs. Or it might be because it’s reserved just for grownups, giving you a sense of calm whether you’re sinking into a lounger by the fashionably geometric pool, losing yourself in spa and salon treatments, or finding yourself with holistic yoga or meditation. Redefining the meaning of all-inclusive, UNICO 20°N 87°W offers the unexpected with an extensive inclusions programme. Handpicked local adventures and excursions offer an up-close and personal experience of the local landscape, take a stroll and a swing at one of the local Golf Clubs, or begin a journey of wellbeing with one of the signature spa treatments.

Everything has been excellent. Adult only (no crying babies or drunk college kids) resort. Very neat and clean with excellent service and good food. Wasn’t crazy about Mura House, but all other restaurants have been very good. Even the breakfast and lunch buffets at 20 87 have been good. Spa services have been wonderful.

My husband and I arrived on a Saturday morning. Check in is not until 3pm but our host Pascaul met us in the lobby, showed us around and got us settled in at the pool with lunch. We had a couples massage and then made our way to our beautiful room. Our room had the sunrise in the morning and shade in the afternoon. You couldn't see the beach but you could see the blue water. We had incredible people taking care of us all week long. Two of our favorites were our waiter at the mexican restaurant Walid and our evening bartender Alberto at the 20 87 restaurant. They both had a big part in why we had such a great time. And when someone said its my pleasure you felt like it was! Our local host surprised us with a rose and rose pedals on our bed for our anniversary. When you walked into a public restroom the toilet paper was always folded nicely like you were the first one to use it. The housekeepers, yes thats plural one on the morning one in the evening always made our room fresh and smelling wonderful. Speaking of smell, the unico has a signature scent when you walk in that makes you stop and take a breath. Its delightful. I could go on and on. The only bummer was the seaweed and rough water which they have no control over. They did have a man combing the beach on a tractor all day to try to keep up with it. Would I go again, absolutely! But not just for the resort for the people. The people are what made our trip memorable and wonderful in so many ways. One bit of advice dont forget some cash. It is all inclusive but a few bucks to let someone know you appreciate them goes along way. Read less

Just back from Unico and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful and extremely well maintained. The food and beverage service is amazing. Hard to believe this hotel is an all inclusive. I am in the travel industry and was truly impressed with the quality of the food & beverage (top shelf). The service was amazing! Saul the bartender at the quiet pool made some amazing fruit punch. An Aurelio at the quiet pool made a mean margarita and Poncho the waiter was always there asking if you needed water and or another cocktail. The wait staff at N. 20.87grill for breakfast, lunch, & dinner were amazing Cony, Victor, Wilbert, Alexander, Riccardo, Susy are just some. A big shout out to Eduardo and the guys at the quiet pool. They were amazing. They were happy to move umbrellas, lounge chairs, etc... They always had a smile on and were most accommodating. Can't say enough about the Service at the Restaurants and Pools. The staff makes this resort an amazing place. Everyone is so friendly. Read less

Just came back from 5 nights vacation. This is our 2nd stay at Unico. We stayed right after Unico was open last time, it was brand new but there's no night entertainment etc. This time, Unico is running in full. There's live music at evening, live DJ by the pool and service was excellent as before. Beach: There was seaweed on first day with high winds. Nobody was swimming on first day. When we checked on our last day Seaweed was removed and ocean was pleasant. Seaweed is an issue everywhere in Riviera Maya so please do not discourage going to Riviera Maya. Riviera Maya, especially Unico is so beautiful surrounded by Mayan jungle and truly beautiful property. Pool: I'm glad Unico turned down the volume of music by the pool. Last time we were there music was too loud and were not able to relax. Most of Mexican resorts tends to play loud club/pop music and we were very disappointed about this. Food: One disappointment: Last time we had whole grilled fish by the pool for lunch, but it wasn't available anymore. We really missed it. All restaurants have excellent food and amazing service. Service: Top notch. We've been to Paradisus La Perla, Secrets Maroma, Xcaret, Hard Rock Riviera Maya but Unico's service is so perfect. There's an apps to request house keeping, dining reservations, room service and it is up to perfection when you request the service. Each room is assigned with guest service person with txt. We request basically everything via txt without even stop at concierge desk. It was accurate and amazing service. Spa: We had 2 massage sessions, my husband got hair cut, shaving and wax. They are all very reasonable price and available. One down side is: Hydrotherapy is not co-ed like Secrets Maroma. It would be nice if sauna, steam sauna area to be co-ed with swim suits so we can spend more time together. We were planning of driving to Cancun etc but we like the resort so much, we needed up on staying in resorts most of the time. We are planning to going back in November again. Can't wait to go back. We had truly relaxing vacation! Read less

My husband and I vacationed at Unico for 7 days this April. The food and service were excellent through the stay, our favourite restaurants were Mura House and the 20 87 Grill for dinner. The tacos and nachos poolside were also good, but I preferred the buffet - especially the mini macaroons for dessert! The drinks were really good - top shelf liquors were available, along with a good selection of beers both domestic and some international brands. Tequila selection was also awesome! Drinks were mixed well, no complaints. The resort decor was gorgeous! Everything from the lobby, restaurants, and rooms were all so chic, stylish, modern while still keeping a unique Mexican flare. Mini bar and snack selection in the room was great! A step above other resorts I’ve visited. The pools were amazing, my favourite was the quiet pool, but the main pool was fun with music and activities. The grounds were well kept and beautifully maintained. The spa was also on point, the hydrotherapy circuit and massage were perfect and super relaxing. Beatriz was an excellent massage therapist, I highly recommend her. For me, the only “con” of this resort was the beach. As I am a beach person, I found it very underwhelming. If you are a pool person, the water is still nice to look. The beach is definitely not the selling point of the resort. I would also recommend some variation in the music played at the main pool, the dance/techno can be a bit much all day long. Overall an amazing week spent at Unico with fantastic service in all aspects! Read less
