UNICO 20 87

Riviera Maya, Mexico

The hotel

There’s a certain sense of exclusivity at UNICO 20°N 87°W, a high-end adult-only haven on the white sands of the Riviera Maya. It might be because of the Anfitrión ‘butlers’ taking care of everything from unpacking to preparing spa tubs. Or it might be because it’s reserved just for grownups, giving you a sense of calm whether you’re sinking into a lounger by the fashionably geometric pool, losing yourself in spa and salon treatments, or finding yourself with holistic yoga or meditation. Redefining the meaning of all-inclusive, UNICO 20°N 87°W offers the unexpected with an extensive inclusions programme. Handpicked local adventures and excursions offer an up-close and personal experience of the local landscape, take a stroll and a swing at one of the local Golf Clubs, or begin a journey of wellbeing with one of the signature spa treatments.

We Traveled to Unico 2087 for our first trip to the Riviera Maya after talking it over with our Travel Agent. I found the hotel to be amazingly clean and the attention from the staff was fantastic, I would love to point out that Abram who works the pool was amazing, Alex our personal host also did everything from changing dinner reservations to setting up our Signature trip to the ruins in Tulum, also I wanted to give a huge shout out to one waiter who went above and beyond to make sure our drinks were cold and full and was always checking in on us, but i forget his name and i will surely review again to make sure he is recognized for his service. We will surely return soon!!! Read less

We could party or relax quietly by the pool or on the beach. There’s a lot going on but you didn’t feel like you had to participate. The service was unparalleled and the food was truly yummy. Can’t wait to go back.

We traveled to Riveria Maya last week for a six-night trip at Unico. The staff at Unico was very pleasant and helpful. The property was beautiful, thoughtfully designed and clean. The food was fantastic and there was a ton of variety. We really enjoyed the breakfast treats and empanadas at 20 87 in the morning. Our favorite dinner was at Cueva Siete. When at Cueva Siete, make sure to get the Mayan coffee, super fun experience (and great coffee). The pools are awesome and the staff keeps the snacks and drinks coming. We went to the beach for a quick walk but didn't spend much time there. This area is being hit hard by the seaweed but they are doing a good job of keeping things clear. Unico helped us with two tours (Curated Tulum and Luxury Sailing out of Puerto Adventuras) which were organized and staffed well. Lastly, their spa is amazing. The hydrotherapy should not be missed. We would highly recommend folks go if they're looking to unplug and relax. Read less

My friends and I just returned from Unico and had an amazing time! Here's what you need to know: What's Great - Food: The other reviewers are right- the food is absolutely delicious. The quality of the dishes is upscale but not overly fancy, making it perfect for my crowd's slightly bougie tastes. Make sure to check out the taco stand near the pool (mmm...flank steak tacos) and both the Mexican and Italian restaurants. Breakfast is also superb with a mix of American and Mexican dishes. The drinks are tasty and not watered down; I personally recommend the passion fruit margarita. - Crowd: My friends and I scoured the Internet trying to find an all inclusive that wasn't just honeymooners or groups of middle aged couples. This place fit the bill perfectly. The crowd was incredibly diverse from all perspectives- age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and why they were there (i.e. girls' trips, family trips, weddings, etc.) The crowd truly melted together and everyone seemed like they belonged. The scene was also lively, with plenty of fun to be had at the pools and in lounges but without feeling like spring break. This is definitely a place for people who are into their "glow up." - Service: Every staff member we met did an excellent job and the little touches included at the resort really stood out. From having us pick our room scent to making sure my steak was cooked perfectly before leaving the table, great service was weaved throughout the experience. Big shout outs to Charly (La Unica pool) and Daniel (wine guy) for their great hospitality! - Rooms: The rooms are beautiful and very spacious. My friends had a first floor room with a swim up pool, which I loved and will definitely get the next time I go. My other friend and I had a room on the 3rd floor, which was also gorgeous. The decor is modern and updated, everything is extremely clean and the beds are super comfy. - Pool Party Saxophone Guy: During the pool party on our second day, there was a saxophonist who played along with the DJ. While this could have very easily gone in the wrong direction, he was amazing! Keep it up, saxophone guy! - Resort Smell: The inside of the resort smelled amazing. I'm not sure which scent they pumped in there but it was fabulous. - Free hats: They give you free straw hats in your room and you can have these customized to say whatever you want. Super cute extra detail that I loved! What Could Be Better - DJ in Palmera Lounge: The DJ in the Palmera Lounge wasn't great. While he was happy to take requests, his lead ins between songs were too long and he played the entire song every time. It felt more like listening to iPod than a DJ. He also played 5 or 6 line dances (almost in a row), which was odd. With a better DJ, the lounge could be an amazing time. (This comment does not apply to the DJ during the pool party who was great.) - Bingo: We were actually excited to see Bingo on the activities list because we love campy, old lady games. However, the guy running Bingo was obviously not excited to be doing it and ran through the numbers really quickly. It seemed rushed and just wasn't very fun. If the number calling was slowed down and there was a new host, this could be a good time. - Beach: The other reviewers mention this as well, but the beach here isn't that great. This didn't matter to me at all (since I'd much rather be at a pool than on the beach) but it's worth mentioning. If you're someone who needs to spend the day in the sand, this may not be the right resort for you. - Power Outlets: Oddly enough, there weren't that many power outlets in our room. There were outlets in the bathroom for the hair dryer and an outlet on the nightstand but no others that we could find. This made plugging everything in and using the steamer a bit of musical cords. I was surprised this was the case since everything else was so well designed. What to Add - Karaoke: I'm a big karaoke fan and would have loved to have it at the resort on one of the nights we were there. While dancing is great, it would be a good way to break up seeing the DJ every night. - Board games: Bar Balam has a pool table and tables for chess/checkers, which we really loved. However, it would have been great to have other board games- Monopoly, Taboo, Scrabble, etc.- that we could use in the lounge as well. The resort had one Jenga game but it was usually in use when we were there. Board games would have been fantastic during the few rainy times or the odd hours between dinner and dancing it up in Palmera Lounge. What I Can't Comment On We didn't have time for excursions while we were there and I didn't end up using the spa. However, the spa facilities looked gorgeous and the gym was very nice and well equipped. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun, upscale all inclusive. I'll be back! Read less
