UNICO 20 87

Riviera Maya, Mexico

The hotel

There’s a certain sense of exclusivity at UNICO 20°N 87°W, a high-end adult-only haven on the white sands of the Riviera Maya. It might be because of the Anfitrión ‘butlers’ taking care of everything from unpacking to preparing spa tubs. Or it might be because it’s reserved just for grownups, giving you a sense of calm whether you’re sinking into a lounger by the fashionably geometric pool, losing yourself in spa and salon treatments, or finding yourself with holistic yoga or meditation. Redefining the meaning of All Inclusive, UNICO 20°N 87°W offers the unexpected with an extensive inclusions programme. Handpicked local adventures and excursions offer an up-close and personal experience of the local landscape, take a stroll and a swing at one of the local Golf Clubs, or begin a journey of wellbeing with one of the signature spa treatments.

Unico is a unique, boutique, modern, smaller feel resort on a beautiful sandy beach. We loved our trip. We travelled Dec 2-9. Here is my review: Pros: - modern, beautiful, elegant, high end resort. Restaurants are gorgeous. Rooms are beautiful. - Your room comes with lovely robes, slippers and 2 hats. (good to know before you go!) - We upgraded to ocean front (building 2) top floor. It is mindblowing awesome there. - Beach: you have the warm Carribean blue, calm ocean right there. We chose to sit on the beach everyday so i can't comment too much on the pool, although most ppl were at the pool and seemed to enjoy it. There was NO seaweed and it was perfect white sand. - Your local host talks to you through whatsapp everyday and helps you arrange anything you might need. This was a very value added service in my opinion. - Spa: I was skeptical at first of the spa but was overly impressed by the quality of my treatment (facial) I highly recommend. Their hydrotherapy is comparable to many other top end spas across the world. Cons: - not a con, but be aware that your dinner resos are held tight to schedule. Book them all before you go. There are 4 restaurants to choose from. Book these on the app. - All restaurants were good however our least favourite was the Mexican - Cueva Siete. It was maybe too modern fare. I would have preferred traditional Mexican. - The rooms are not soundproof... we heard much of what our neighbors were up to. Bring earplugs. - Uncontrollable by the resort, but there was 4 weddings while we were there, a large (200 person convention) and this created a very noisy, often times rowdy environment of a bit more of a party scene than we had anticipated. When the large convention left, all returned to normal. - we opted out of the expensive excusions but wanted to see Tulum. We took a cab to town and explored. This was more our style vs a tour. Recognition: - Poncho at the beach. This man works hard and serves drinks to everyone on the beach. He is both friendly and efficient. He deserves a hearty recognition. - Pedro at MiCarisa. Pedro is a top notch server making excellent recommendations and is extra attentive - Ankel at Mura house. One of the best servers we experienced. He would anticipate what we might need and was so friendly, warm and helpful - Melissa at Unico restaurant. Melissa was a wonderful server. - Fernando our local host. Fernando checked in each day, he was authentic and helpful, knowledgeable and helped with every aspect of our trip. We hope the staff above get the recognition they deserve! Lastly we did tip at most interactions, however we noticed a few other guests at dinner not providing a tip, even at a beautiful dinner. We believe that if you have a great experience, you should provide gratuity. It is important and it means a lot. Read less

But what stands out the most is the service and friendliness of the staff. Particular mention to our local hostess, Kristel, who looked after us again like we were royalty! Nothing was too much trouble. It was great to see Karina again who served us coffees with a smile every morning in Cafe Inez. And amazing pool service (especially Rodrigo) who made sure we didn’t dehydrate at any point! I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We can’t wait to come back next year 😎 Read less

A couple of drawbacks from the other resorts where we’ve stayed however. The room walls were far from soundproof and we had a neighbor with a booming voice who spoke on his cell phone often in speaker phone mode. We never met him in person but felt like we’d known him forever by our last day. Restaurants were all very good. The jetted tub is great but would be better inside the room and not out on the porch deck. Spa was great for our couples massage. Overall a good experience Read less

The food at the Asian is incredible as we always choose to dine at a regular table as we prefer that menu (lobster rice is amazing!) The manager there is an amazing person, Arturo and he always makes our experience special. Also, some of the chefs are extremely friendly as well especially Chef Antonio we love him! The pool bar at the main pool is amazing and Johnny truly makes all his drinks with special care. Additionally, Alonzo and Pablo helping with towels, cabanas, ect help make your stay even more enjoyable. Thanks for the incredible stay; as this might have been our best one yet! Well done Unico!
