Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa

The hotel

Living up to its ‘authentically Bali’ mantra, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa feels like a reincarnated Balinese palace. Every element’s lavish, with its three exquisite tree-fringed pools, sumptuous spa, gym, and seven bars and restaurants all adding to the fantastical feel. But nothing’s quite as regal as its grounds, where tropical greenery spills over balconies, tumbles through gardens, and comes to rest on the pure white sands of its beach. The effect’s a serene setting for garden tours, coconut leaf weaving, and traditional dance classes – and for Gecko Club’s child-focused island experiences. Inside its nine hectares, a dramatic temple-like structure splits to reveal an elaborate lily pond festooned with water features; Balinese guest rooms (including Butler-served Club rooms) divulge garden, pool, or beach scenes; and the incredible bamboo web of its double-decked brasserie opens up to hypnotic Indian Ocean views.

I write this review having resided at a few of the hotels in Nusa Dua over many years and unsure how I missed this one. Overall I would say that any of the hotels along the beach offer excellent facilities and would provide a comfortable stay. That being said, the Nusa Dua beach hotel offers something a bit different. While sitting on the beach at Nusa Dua, one could imagine themselves to be on one of many tropical beaches in the world. Entering the Nusa Dua beach resort, the original hotel on the island, offers a Balinese ambience not experienced at the other hotels in the area. While offering the amenities of other hotels such as large pools, dining, rest areas poolside, the beach, grounds and lobby, the hotel offers far more for both families and adults. We booked a suite, but for the first time ever while travelling, I requested a downgrade to a lagoon room. Having just arrived from the North we required a more open view rather than the luxury of more space. The lagoon rooms were lovely with a step out swimming pool area. The water was warm as was the case with all the pools. The rooms have a very traditional Balinese feel with original carvings. On the practical side they are well designed, clean spacious bathroom also with character and most importantly functional. One incident with the cleaning but on reporting was fixed immediately. We also had the fortune to enjoy the palace club. Here we were treated to an extremely comfortable area with lounge and business areas inside and an open air dining overlooking the gardens. Here a la carte breakfast ( which was probably the same menu as available in the buffet) was available, afternoon tea and cocktails. We were kept entertained by the visiting duck parade, the monitor ( nicknamed Iggy) and a plethora of birds, all of which made it a very enjoyable experience. Also included was a visit to the spa for a massage. I didn’t see the fitness centre. The lap pool at the spa was my favourite of the 4 pools. There was also a spa and sauna, although they were tempting, like the fitness centre erred on the side of caution with Covid concerns. On that same thread, all staff wore masks. Joined the Nusa Dua club online, only just started, may even be the first member :). Offers room upgrades, discounts and other advantages. Now to what made this place such an enjoyable stay was the staff. The team at the palace club were, without exception, polite, helpful, professional and a pleasure to speak with. On first entering the club for check in to the final booking of airport transfers, every request and process was met with a genuine ‘can do’ attitude, even if it were not the usual custom of the hotel. These people are the life blood of the hotel and they alone are enough of a reason to stay here. The impetus for such a positive review is owed to the kindness offered by the staff at the palace club. As for Nusa Dua , There is not much to do here but relax, swim, walk, ride a bike, yoga. Lots of surfboards available but didn’t see any waves, although there was evidence of at least one very large one. Great activities for kids with kids clubs, pools etc. but for adults really a place to rest. Dining is offered at the hotel in a lovely beachside restaurant and seats on the beach itself. For variety there are many choices at each of the hotels as you walk along the beach. A bit of advice though, you would probably want to avoid November 2022 with the G20. Evidence of preparations are already obvious and I can’t imagine Nusa Dua will be the same during that period. Hotel is very close to the conference. Read less

Staff is fantastic ito customer services! Nona Novita the Club Lounge Manager was very charming and accomodating our request. Her team in Palace Club also very helpful. We likes to spend whole day in Palace Club rather than go out from the property. Very impressive and we will coming back! Read less

A lovely hotel in a gated part of Nusa Dua. Swimming pool was perfect (quite deep, and a nice pool bar). The beach we weren’t that impressed with - the beach loungers we’re too close together and it felt a bit mass market. The other hotels along the stretch did much better with their stretch of beach. The restaurants were lovely and all staff hospitable and caring. It was still clearly opening up post covid (quite quiet, not all of the activities, Raja’s not open). Breakfast was lovely (pastries brilliant, but hot food was halal even in the Hindu island). With some small tweaks could be 5 stars, and we still really enjoyed our stay. The area was really hard to get to other parts of the island - cannot walk to anywhere other than the gated part, taxis are expensive and the island is massive! Read less

Relaxing and overall enjoyable stay. Staff are very pleasant and accommodating. Yes, I do understand very well how the pandemic effected Bali and the hospitality industry. I would strongly suggest an improvement on overall maintenance of the Resort. This would help greatly in attracting a diverse mix of guests.
