Disney's BoardWalk Inn

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

This magical waterfront property will take you back to 1930s America with its mix of buildings steeped in old-fashioned charm. It’s smack, bang in the middle of the lively BoardWalk with picturesque views of the harbour and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to explore. Kids will adore the swimming pool complex with its 61-metre water slide and white-sand beach, while adults can enjoy a leisurely swim in the quiet pool. It’s particularly fun to stay at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn as the whole area comes alive at night when duelling pianos get to work to the delight of the crowds, and everyone gets into the holiday mood. It’s dead easy to get to Epcot on the water taxi or by foot, and the restaurants of Disney’s Yacht Club and Disney’s Beach Club Resorts are close by for dining variety.

Our usual hotel for Disney vacations is the Swan, but we decided to stay at the Boardwalk on a recent trip. I was quite pleasantly surprised by how nice this hotel is. The room was large, everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel itself is literally a short walk from tons of places to eat and things to do. We will be back.

The big difference with the Boardwalk Villas is a full kitchen and washer and dryer. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The hotel is very large and we were the very last room and it is quite a walk from the front lobby all the way to the last room. The best part in my opinion is that we could walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios so we could skip the bus hassle. There are several good restaurants on property and you are connected by walkways to Swan and Dolphin as well as Beach and Yacht club . It is typical Disney, Great! Read less

Overall Rating: 85/100 (8.5/10) Class of Room Booked: Club Standard Class of Room Stayed: Club, Garden View, 2 Queen, Epcot View Price per night (with taxes): $700 (Approx-part of package) The Quick Hits: Would I stay here again? Yes! If I can afford it! Value rating based on price paid: Fair - as you can see it's not cheap. Note - this was an Innkeeper's Club room, which may color opinions and expectations accordingly and should not be used as a basis for standard resort rooms except in common areas. The Details: Hotel Design Location and Layout: Location (9/10 – Exceeded Expectations) – The hotel advertises as walking distance to Epcot International Gateway - they don't mention how short that is. I made it from the park exit to our room in about 10 mins, including waiting for elevator. In addition, bus transit to Magic and Animal Kingdoms was far faster than expected (about 15 minutes on bus) and Skyliner access at Epcot to HS and other resorts AND boat transport to HS and Epcot makes the resort exceptionally convenient to all parks. Epcot fireworks are partially visible from higher floors. Hotel Lobby/Common Areas(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – As with any deluxe resort, the main lobby is spacious, well themed and well maintained. Hotel Amenities(8/10 – Met expectations) – The resort has 2 shops, 1 small and 1 large gift/food shop. There are multiple dining options across all levels (not all currently open but most scheduled to open soon). The hotel also has a boardwalk with a few carnival games (adds a lot to atmosphere and energy although the games are nothing special) as well as a piano bar, magic themed bar and dance club. There is a decent sized gym and a small arcade. 3 pools, one main pool with slide, etc, one small very quiet pool and one other quiet pool. COVID Special Section (7.5/10 - Met Expectations) - All staff properly masked in close contact areas. Surfaces cleaned frequently. Hand sanitizer stations available and full. Room: Design and Layout (8.0/10 – Met expectations) – The rooms are a bit dated, but that's completely ok as it fits with the resort theme. The room was larger than expected, with plenty of storage (dresser and large closet). Bathroom was large with a double vanity and walk in shower. Ceiling fan helps with air movement. Balcony small but usable for the time you will want it (Fireworks!) Comfort(7.5/10 – Met expectations) – Bed was a little firm. The sofa bed looked about as appealing as a rock for sleeping but was fine for a sofa. Condition(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – Room had some wear and tear (nicks, dings, etc) but was generally in good shape. Everything worked. Amenities(8.0/10 – Met Expectations) – Some of the bathroom amenities normally in club rooms not present, but all the basics were there. Normal disney fridge and coffeemaker. Staff: Front Desk/Service(9/10 – Exceeded Expectations) – Somehow, Disney resort staff always manages to beat my high expectations without being obtrusive. Any services requested are always handled with a smile and attention to detail that few other venues can match. Housekeeping (NA) - I did not score this because I am aware that Disney Housekeeping is operating short and new staffed. Housekeeping was very inconsistent. We were there 4 nights, and officially housekeeping should be every other day. But our first day the beds were made and fresh linens, but the trash, etc was not touched. Day 2, new towels and trash emptied as well as beds made, but an empty laundry bag left behind. Day 3, no beds made or towels picked up but trash taken out - etc. Normal turndown is currently suspended. Also, Disney does one thing I can not stand, which is replace partially used shampoo, soap, etc with new. Leave a spare and let us finish the open one!!! Club Staff (11/10 - Blew Expectations away) - Yes, that is an 11 - Based on pre-trip research I had high expectations of the staff, and they still managed to impress me, one of the top two lounge staff's in all my travel experience. I'd name names but that would be unfair to the rest. Without fail, they were uniformly helpful, had encyclopedic memory of current and past guests, and, this is key, without being obtrusive or overbearing. This is a hard skill to master for one person, let alone a team. Food Service: Paid Dining: Restaurant/Cafe (8/10 - Met Expectations) – Only used the quick service offerings (Bakery, Boardwalk Kiosk) - All items were tasty, fresh and reasonably priced (for Disney values of reasonable). Decent variety of products. Room Service(NA) - Did not use. Complimentary Dining: Breakfast/Reception (NA) - See Club Lounge Other Areas: Frequent Traveler Program: None Club/Lounge (11/10) - Yes. Another 11. The lounge offers 4 segments per day, breakfast, light lunch, hors d'ouvres, dessert. A decent selection of wine and liquor is available as well as non-alcoholic drinks (incl fresh squeezed juices in AM). Action stations may be offered for breakfast and dinner. While there we had fresh made waffles for one breakfast and made on site basalmic pork and shrimp scampi for one evening (the biggest downside is that you are often in the parks and not able to take advantage). Food quality and variety was far above most lounges. Special Perks(bonus point) - Other: Internet Speed Test Results (from Room via Oookla): Tested several times, all over the place based on other usage. Family Friendly: Yes! It's Disney after all. Pet Friendly: Service dogs only. Notes/Summary: I never thought any Disney resort would supplant the Wilderness Lodge in my affections, but we really loved the Boardwalk, even Club aside. The location is super convenient to 2 parks and quick access to two more. The boardwalk atmosphere and skyliner overhead add an energy that other deluxe resorts often lack. A wide variety of room types and locations allows for meeting most travel groups needs (there are also large DVC rooms available). When you add in the amazing lounge staff, the resort's slogan of 'Welcome Home' really seems genuine. About my system - All scores are based on expectations, where 7.5 = met expectations, 10 is highly exceeded, and 1, well, something went horribly wrong. Expectations take into account a number of factors, such as price paid, brand, and location. They will vary greatly from the Waldorf Astoria to a Super 8. All scores are averaged and translated to a score out of 10. 1 Trip Advisor dot applies for each 2 points, so 4 dots is the most likely scenario. SPECIAL NOTE - Obviously the hotel industry has been going thru and continues to experience a very challenging environment due to COVID. Staffing is an obvious concern and my expectations reflect that, however I have also increased expectations on common area cleaning, etc. Read less

We arrived at the hotel on a Tuesday afternoon and we were immediately greeted and checked in. What a wonderful welcome as we were tired, hot, and hungry. We all wanted to get to the room and change and freshen up. We were given our room number and as we climbed into the elevator we were smiling because we knew our long awaited vacation was about to begin. We got off on our floor and were pleased at how close our room was. As my friend opened the door I could see the bathroom over her head. My heart sank. What I saw from the doorway was a very dated shower curtain for a stall shower. Ok I told myself it can’t be bad this is Disney!!! We walked in and all 5 of us ladies groaned at once. We came for a ladies trip and a magical experience. As I looked around I was pleased to see a balcony and a beautiful view of the pool. Upon further review the bathroom was so disappointing. When we have stayed at a moderate resort we have had sinks outside the bathroom for extra room and to give others a chance to shower while some of us did our hair. That is what it showed in the photo. Entering the bathroom I decided to take a warm shower and prepare for the Boo Bash. The water did not stay in the shower. It ran down the curtain and to the opposite side of a flimsy strip of rubber. The floor got wet and a wet bathroom floor is a hazard. The sliding door was stained on the inside and the baseboard was chipped. The curtain looked old and there were no hooks to hang clothes, towels, or swimsuits. This, I realized, was a bathroom designed for a wheelchair. A room on the fifth floor equipped for a wheelchair. After my shower it was time to unpack. One problem though this room had a wardrobe and not a closet. The hanging side was filled with a iron and ironing board. We all lived out of our suitcases. The room stated it slept 5 which it did, however that is all it did. Now location of hotel was great. You can walk to HS and Epcot. The bus was easy to get to and the pool was so big it almost felt like you had it to yourself. The restaurants on the Boardwalk were excellent and the view spectacular. The room though lacked so much I would be lying if I said it didn’t put a damper on things. The constant wet floor was a reminder. If you book a studio make sure it is not a handicap accessible one if you want the little extra touches that make things easier for a group of 5. Please fix the wet floor issue, change the curtain, and add some hooks. You can do lower ones for a wheelchair bound person and maybe some higher ones as well. If anyone is wondering why we didn’t ask for a different room we did. When my friend mentioned the room was unlike the photo the response was, that room has been like that for 25 years, since the hotel opened. It was not said pleasantly. When we enquired about another room we were told none were available. Read less

Over the last 30 years we have stayed in almost all of the Orlando Disney resorts with the exception of Grand Floridian. The accomodations are excellent, the boardwalk is great and it's an easy walk or boat ride to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Highly recommend
