Disney's Contemporary Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

The closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom Park is the height of retro, '70s cool. The monorail enters the lobby through a 'curtain' of air to drop off and pick up. The stylish, gourmet 15th-floor California Grill restaurant offers incredible bird's-eye views over the Magic Kingdom Park. Meet your favourite characters in Chef Mickey's Restaurant, while tired parents can revive themselves in the cocktail lounge. There's a big swimming pool, tennis courts and even water-skiing on the lake.

Get a room with a view of the castle /park/fireworks its worth that little extra. Its not highly themed rooms. Just very comfortable and location ... location... location. Get off the monorail that goes thru your hotel at the end of the night. Pricy but worth every penny. We enjoyed it very much.

I visited the contemporary last Christmas and while I love the resort and the staff were lovely, the parking fee was outrageous. I visited the contemporary last Christmas and while I love the resort and the staff were lovely, the parking fee was outrageous. The ways that Disney has begun to nickel and dime everyone for things that used to be included in the already expensive price for a stay is disappointing to say the least. I’d expect better value from a Disney resort and it was not given. Think very carefully about the additional prices of paying a premium to be on property as well as the additional cash grabs for parking when searching for hotels to stay at on your next trip. This hotel is not worth its pricing premiums. The rooms are ok but nothing impressive and many areas of the hotel are in need of renovations. Food throughout the hotel is extremely expensive, yet of very low quality (middle school cafeteria-quality for the most part). The only saving grace was the staff--they were truly wonderful.

This was my third stay at the Contemporary. I have stayed in the Garden Wing, the Tower club level, and a standard room in the tower. This time was a standard, Bay Lake view stay in the tower. I highly recommend staying in the tower if possible as you’re closer to all the amenities the resort has to offer. When you’re in the Garden Wing, you’ll have to walk to the tower for everything (it’s not far away, but it’s just less convenient). This is a deluxe Disney resort on the monorail, in fact the monorail runs through the middle. The transportation for this resort includes the monorail, buses and boats. You can also walk to the Magic Kingdom. There are multiple restaurants and gift shops. The first floor has a coffee stand and table service restaurant. The fourth floor is where most of the action is. The fourth floor has access to the monorail, an arcade, two gift shops, a bar, a quick service restaurant and a table service character restaurant. There is also a restaurant on the top floor, but you can only get up there if you have a reservation. There is a pool and splash area between the tower and garden wing. It doesn’t have any special theming. There is also a quick service restaurant and bar at the pool area. There is a small beach as well. This resort doesn’t have as heavy theming as some other Disney resorts, but the location is wonderful and it’s one of my favorite Disney resorts. I’ve included some photos of our Bay Lake view and the 4th floor view. Read less

The price has increased, but the room has remained the same. The Resort needs a major upgrade. During our stay ( Dec 16- 21, 2019) our bath water was never hot enough and on one particular night we didn't have hot water at all. I call and complained about this and was told they were having problems throughout the Resort. The hot water wasn't available until about 2 or 3 am. I am 78 years old and my daughter is 49. This used to be a happy place to stay, but this was a total disappointment. If I go back to the Magic Kingdom, I will stay at a Moderate Resort. Read less
