Disney's Pop Century Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

A fantastic family favourite, there is plenty to delight every member of the clan at this lively resort. The memorabilia, crazes and catchphrases that defined the 20th Century are everywhere you look - from jukeboxes, bowling pins and 8-track tapes to laptops, mobile phones and VCRs. The giant Rubik's Cube® is something to look out for, as well as huge models of Disney characters from the different eras. Baloo and Mowgli from The Jungle Book (in the 1960s section) are our favourites. Each building is a larger than life 'time capsule' of POP culture, featuring slogans encouraging you to 'boogie on down' or 'have a nice day' - not exactly hard to do! In the food hall, the kids can enjoy their favourite food, whilst mum and dad will appreciate a cocktail at the pool bar. When you're not exploring the theme parks using the complimentary Disney Transport, head to the 60s-themed Hippy Dippy feature pool and let the kids splash for hours in the pop-jet water fountain. To ensure you don't waste a minute of your holiday, bags can be dropped off at reception even before your accommodation is ready. They will be delivered to your room later, leaving you and the kids with nothing to do but start having fun straight away!

This was our first time staying here and really liked it (oct 18-22). We had to move from the first room because we ask for a king bed. Really comfortable bed and linens. Loved the barn door separating the bathroom from the main room. Great layout with a table and chairs. There is a refrigerator and a coffee bar above it. Loved how old the soap and shampoo is on the wall and no longer an individual bottles. We did not have anyone on either side of us so we did not hear any room noise. We always travel with a noise maker and it really helps with any outside noise. You may want to get a room away from the pool area. They use pressure washers kind of early. Staff was very friendly. Loved being able to check in with our phones and not having to go to the front desk. Everything was very clean in the rooms. The hotel grounds were well kept. We had NO ISSUES our entire stay, at the hotel. We went to DHS and rode the skyliner. We got in line at 8:15 and there was a very long line. It took us 1:20 minutes to get there. We were in the DHS park at 9:45 and didn’t get into the Star Wars RIR queue for the 10am or 2pm. I was told by a Disney cast member it has to do with your cell phone carrier and the internet speed and then just luck. So do not think you will get to ride Rise To Resistance if you don’t have the correct carrier (ATT) and it’s still not a guarantee. AT&T is a sponsor of Disney. The hours were 10-7 in DHS. The lines were ridiculous we waited over 1 1/2 for almost every ride. We did not get to ride Mickey’s runaway railroad because it kept breaking down. We rode the bus to Animal Kingdom and had no problems coming or going. We actually got a Lyft to the Contemporary Resort to eat at Chef Mickey. Then we took the monorail to the MK. It was horrible. The lines and wait times were terrible. We decided this was our last trip to Disney. They have a lot of improvements to make before I spend the amount of money I did during a pandemic with no perks. We stayed at Disneys Pop Century Resort 1-14 to 10-24. This was our first time staying at this resort. We have stayed at many other Disney properties but his one had a good Annual Passholders discount and so I chose this one. We arrived and went to the front to unload our bags and pick up a rented scooter. The folks at baggage claim up front were very helpful although very busy. Our bags were taken and would be delivered to the room later. We got the scooter and headed to our room. The room was clean and nice. One sink in the bathroom. A curtain separates the bathroom area from the rest of the room. There was a hair dryer and ironing board with iron. There was a safe and a refrigerator. The frig is in a cabinet that doubles as a coffee bar area. The coffee maker is a small coffee maker that can make 1 or 2 cups at a time with small packets of coffee bag/filter combos. There is a desk to eat or work at that has two chairs. There was ample storage in the room for us as it was just two people. The chest of drawers has 6 drawers of large size. The storage in the bathroom is less but worked for us. We had a pool view room. At night up to about 10pm it is very loud out at the pool at this time as many folks used the pool after park hours with the reduced hours. This was not a problem for us but may be for some so something to think about. The walls are thin. We heard lots of noise coming from other guests next door and above us. There is a pool bar. The food court menu was good and we enjoyed the food we got there. I had pot roast with mashed potatoes one night and it was extremely good. The pizza was not so great here. Just a couple of things we tried and noted in our minds. You have buses and the Skyliner here for transportation options. The Skyliner is very convenient and worked well for us going to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Truly the way to go for those parks. But, be aware there is a long line that starts early in the morning. Transportation start operation 45 minutes prior to park opening. If you do not plan to get there early you will have a good wait to get on the Skyliner and then you have another lengthy wait at the hub for the Skyliner at the hub which is located at the Caribbean Beach resort area. So, plan accordingly. If you want to try to get into Hollywood Studios for Rise of the Resistance boarding group selection you would need to get to the Skyliner very early or better than that plan to drive to the park early that day. We had a good stay here overall and would return if the rate was good. The only problem we had the entire time was with housekeeping. There is a limited staff now due to the virus and they do not clean the rooms daily. I believed it was to be done every other day. One day we returned to the room after days of no service to find that the room was not cleaned but more importantly not replenished with towels and coffee. My wife called the front and requested these items. They were promptly delivered to the room. In about 15 minutes another person came to the door and knocked (we had settled in for the night by this time). I told her that we no longer needed the items as they had already been delivered. She left. About 20 minutes went by and we had yet another knock at the door. It was a housekeeping manager. She wanted to know why we had declined the service that we had requested earlier. I explained to her that someone had already brought the items that we had requested and so the second person was sent away. She then informed me that she or someone would have to enter the room for an inspection of the room which is standard practice for Disney in the wake of the shootings that had occurred in Las Vegas a good while ago. I get it but....they had all day to do this prior to 8 or 8:30pm and the only apparent thing that had occurred here was that we had asked for service. What, they forgot to service the room and now they need to come in the room? My wife and I got dressed again and went to the bar up front while this person apparently sent someone to our room to inspect it. This was a real pain and should not have happened. I want to be safe but the miscommunication here left us a bit irritated. This was not a deal breaker or something that would set us off of staying here again as this sort of thing happens I am sure. Just a small snafu but worth mentioning as this sort of thing should get worked out. They are operating on short staff and times are tough all around. I understand to some degree but this could have been avoided by the staff. Read less

I don't even want to come back to Disney after this experience. The night crew at the Pop Century resort is so rude and unhelpful. The night we arrived, nobody was at the luggage assistance desk to give us a luggage cart so I went to the front desk to request one. The lady, who appeared to be in management, was extremely snotty. When I asked of we could get a luggage cart, she said I'm a very nasty tone, "it's outside at the desk that says luggage assistance." The cast member next to her thankfully stepped up and let us know he would call for someone to come outside but I did not appreciate her snide "don't-bother-me" attitude. Then she wanted to chase after me because I accidentally walked out of the ropes the wrong way (while nobody else was around--it was after midnight). The last night at the resort, I forgot to grab a spoon and fork to eat my meal with and it was a little after the shop closed for the night once I realized it. I walked all the way back to the front desk to ask if we could have utensils. I was told to call housekeeping. I asked what my options were if housekeeping didn't have any and the cast member told me he didn't understand. I said "Who do I call if housekeeping can't help me? How do I get a spoon to eat my soup?" He said call housekeeping. First of all, it's their job to call housekeeping for me if I walked to the guest services desk asking for help l. Second, it can't be that hard to find plastic utensils in a resort. We ended up eating with our fingers because housekeeping claimed there was no way to get a fork or spoon at 10:30 PM. They're so unhelpful. This stay was far from magical. I could have spent my birthday at the Holiday Inn Express and had a better time. Read less

My husband and I were very pleased with how clean and well staffed this property was. Now having said that, the dinning left a lot to be desired. What there was available was good, prepared fresh, and there wasn't huge wait.... the issues was, I believe, is that they are operating with a reduced menu offering. With the Parks opening late and closing early, we were eating at our resort more than we normaly would, so a greater variery would have been appreciated - GREATLY. Would we stay at POP again? Perhaps, if once again one of our favortie Deluce properties was not available. Read less
