The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived. Rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron's mansion. The homely feel here doesn't mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the white sand beach, one of the island's best, with its iridescent lagoon.

We’ve just returned after 9 nights at the wonderful JW Marriot in Le Mourne. We were initially meant to go in Sept 2020 with one baby of 10 months. Due to covid we were only able to go this year and we now have 2 children! (8 months & 2.5 years old) We nearly cancelled our booking as we thought this type of hotel holiday vs self catering didn’t really work for us anymore. I’m so glad we didn’t! The resort doesn’t sell itself well enough as to how fantastic they are set up for children and especially babies! Children under 4 eat free for a start. We just called room service and they had the choice of grilled fish, vegetable selections, fruit platters, you name it. They’ll do baby purées if you need. They brought us a high chair, a steriliser, even a nappy bin. We booked a baby sitter through the hotel called Brinda. She was absolutely amazing!!! We booked her every day during the day for a few hours so my partner and I could go kitesurfing together and every other evening so we could have more romantic dinners. With just a few words in passing Brinda would just say “I’ve got this” and we would leave carefree. The kids loved her! Thank you Brinda you really made our holiday! Kids under 4 can still use the kids club facilities but need to be accompanied so Brinda would take them there for a few hours each day. The kids club facility is out of this world! Shallow pool in the shade, loads of toys and daily activities. All the staff are incredibly friendly and can’t do enough for you. Special thanks to Manisha who ensured our 2 year old always had colouring in stuff and made her feel special at meal times. There’s a butler service and they ensure you have everything you need for the day including booking restaurants and activities. Thank you Ravi! The daily cleaning service and turn down service which is another quick clean and tidy up is also fantastic. We had a suite opening on the beach and hardly ever had sand inside! The spa facility is top class. Thanks to Pravesh the for best massage ever! 9 nights of no cooking, no cleaning, kitesurfing every day, being treated like royalty, beautiful sunsets and lots of special family time. I can’t wait to go back! Thank you all! Read less

Everyone seems to know you, they greet you by your name at all places - be it a restaurant or a lounge or a bar or poolside. The sunset view from the beach side is breathtaking. The design of the resort is very well done with so many waterbodies. The spa is great. Real value for money and good food, good people. All the best and keep it up Read less

We arrived to the J.W. Marriott from Flic En Flac after an OK week at a local resort. Wow were we impressed upon our arrival! This resort is stunning. The original room we booked - Jr. Suite Ocean Access - was not available but they offered us two different upgrades to choose from and we chose the Ocean View Grand Suite - Room 535. This room is stunning and large. Right on the beach with two sliding glass walls that we would open each morning. As June is their Winter, the temperatures were 25c-27c, no humidity, dry with sunshine - just perfect! Upon arrival to our room, our butler - Garry Beersingh - introduced himself. Garry was available throughout our stay and coordinated dinner reservations and anything else to make our stay perfect. A big shout-out to Garry who also arranged a 6 hour late check out without us asking when he found out we had an evening flight on the day of departure. The resort has 5 different restaurants with the Floating Market being the best. All the food at the resort was good but the Vietnamese/Thai dishes at the Floating Market restaurant were excellent. Also a special thank you to Atma - the evening bartender at the main bar. A 10 year employee of the resort who made us so welcomed each evening. The employees at the J.W. Marriott Mauritius are really what made our stay so special - no matter what restaurant we dined in or who we met during our walks through the resort, the staff made it a point to recognize us by name and always acknowledged you with a hello, good morning or good evening. If they encountered you the day before or earlier that same day, they made it a point to inquire how your day went. Their attention to detail, training and genuine interest in you as a guest is amazing! The one thing you notice while at the resort is the level of management involvement with the staff and guests. No matter if it is the early morning or late at night, the managers are onsite and insuring everything is running smoothly - General Manager Dimitrios and Executive Assistant Manager Benoit - are to be commended for the level of staff training, service and how well this resort is run. The Mauritius people are so friendly and engaging that I am sure they will both say that it is Mauritius that makes this resort special. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary on Mauritius and we are so fortunate that we chose the J.W. Marriott as the resort to stay at. It was a trip that we will not forget! Thank you to everyone at the J.W. Marriott Mauritius! Read less
