Hotel is advertised incorrectly - it is not a 5 star hotel nor is it close: rooms are outdated , hotel is a bit seedy. Help was nice at the bar area and the pool. Def not over the top. Not a honeymoon spot.

We are regular visitors to the Banyan Tree and love the location, the peace and seclusion it offers. Great to just chill out and relax. The staff are first class, always attentive and helpful. It’s good to see the refurbishment programme progressing well. We stayed in a beachfront villa that had been refreshed but still retained the Seychellois character. The beach and sea front are fantastic, although the strong currents and undertow make it unsuitable for water sports. Food is good and there is a small selection of dining options. Saffron is an outstanding Thai restaurant and we recommend cocktails on the veranda, La Varangue, and watch the spectacular sunsets. We recommend hiring a car for a few days to explore the island. First time in Seychelles and didn't disappoint. We flew out from Gatwick after staying at our favourite Hotel at the airport, Sofitel. The plane journey with Emirates took just under 7 hours ( afternoon evening flight) and then flew from Dubai to Seychelles which took around 4hrs. The journey was a little bumpy at times and the landing is quite exciting at Seychelles airport !!! We looked at many resorts for this trip and chose Mahe island & Banyan Tree for our wedding and honeymoon stay. I must say you can never compare to people what its like ( as we are usually flying to the Maldives) and they are so different. Large mountains and granite rock as soon as you step off the plane ( small terminal) go thorough security and then you are out waiting for your taxi. The journey to the resort This was wonderful and very pretty and takes approx 30 mins. They also drive on the left handside too. We had a taxi driver who was local and we had great company throughtout the journey. We had landed around 06:30 and arrived at the resort around 07:30. The Resort You feel like you are in the set of Jurassic Park, its amazing the drive up to Banyan Tree is wonderful and so colourful too. Windy roads and granite rock boldours line the route which looks incredible. The Reception We had been greeted by the night staff who were about to change shifts so it seemed everything then was a little rushed but we did get a cold towle and a drink. The Pool beach villa was not ready ( didnt really expect it to be really though at this time of day) so we took a strol along the beach !!! The Beach Incredible, August is rough and romantic with large waves hitting the shoreline which makes for dramatic photshoots. The sand is incredible soft to walk on with no corals or rocks to worry about ( apart from the large Granite rocks that line each end of a stunning beach) and loved every moment walking from one end to the other. Time of the year August can be breezy, wet and high seas, but do not let put you off. Really not safe to swim but fun to walk along but be really careful with children, the waves are not predictable and large ones can cover the whole sand if not watching. The Weather We had showers for the 7 nights we were there with long periods of sunshine too. It was windy at times but settled nicely during the day. Sunsets You could just about catch a sunset in the right hand corner of the resort but changes during the year for better views. The staff Amazing team and have to thank all the management Fabrice Collot, David Andrews, Thomas George for all the hard work to ensure our wedding was a success. For also being the witnesses to our wedding too. Zihane Zaid, was lovely and Stephanie (our wedding co-ordinator was too) Randy ( I think that was his name) was great at looking after me during the wedding supplying the G&T to help with the nerves. Lovely guy and such an assit to the team. He worked at La Varangue. The Restuarants What can you say, all were A la Carte Menu ( some nights restuarants on some nights did buffet ) Saffron - Thai Cuisine What a setting and amazing food with stunning views. Catch it when all the flames are lit and the lake is illluminated in the evening. Dress code for this is Smart casual from 18:30 - 22:30hrs Lamer - Arabic & Creole cuisine This is in the main hotel and has a lovelly views of the pool and beyond when dining on the terrace to watch the night settle in. Opening from 18:30 - 22:30 with same dress code. Au Jardin D'Epices Staff were amazing here but at all the other restuarants too but very much looked after here. Opening for breakfast at 07:00 - 11:00 Lunch 12:00 - 14:30 Dinner18:30 - 22:30 The food was amazing and the red snapper...Omg ! just taste and see why we had this most nights. We enjoyed this place for breakfast too. Very pretty setting and has the Peter Sellers wine cellar which we had for our wedding dinner. Compliments to the Executive chef ;O) who has the food under control and all the tastes that want you tasting more. Beautiful prepared food and amazing taste to the pallet . The Pool & Blue Bar We used the pool quite a few times and is a stunning setting surrounded by the indian ocean and palm trees...along with the Blue Bar and the famous '69' rum - it will blow your mind at 65% proof. You can also get snacks here during the day and plenty of water brought to you during the hot sun. The Rum Shack Another Bar but on the beach but still in the gorunds of the hotel. It is very chilled laid back and watch the waves role in with a coconut rum drink. The Stay - Villa 201 We booked for 7 nights which included a wedding package and on the 22nd August we were to be married in the resort. We arrived and stayed in villa 201 and is very private and has a great stretch of the beach which only two other villas share really. This is because with the rocks and the waves nobody could really walk down to this area which made it beautful and private and could take amazing shots here. The whole villa was lovley with a large outdoor pool and plenting of seating places for drinking cocktails which if needed, you could pop next door to the pool area ..minutes walk away and get. The Spa & Gym We never used the SPA but did get up early and used the gym and it has enough to keep you fit in and not far form the main buildings really. Unless you have the villas at the very top then buggy is handy. The wedding The day was filled with nerves and antisipation. I witneesed the set up while my wife to be was getting ready with the make up and hair stylist - Anisa Rose and her team did an excellant job to keep the hair in place because it was breezy on the balcony where we got married. We chose these people and also the photographer De waal because of the reviews and because they were also local to the venue. i have not added any pictures from the photographer but only my shots at the moment as we still need to look through them. For a wedding setting it was beautiful with all the bay in the back drop and the amazing balcony setting. Flowers were done locally and unfortuantely do not remember the name of the local lady. Stephanie ( our host ) organised all of this and made sure the flower set up went ahead too. The witnesses to our marriage were actually The GM and also The Director of food & Beverages. Fabrice & David, thank you so much but also now are premantely on our Seychelles wedding certificate. The cake was cooked to perfection but tasted very little of it unfortunately. Shame we never had more time to eat it. Would we do it all over again, in a flash ...YES. The resort is wonderful and everyone makes you feel welcome. The food is delicous and have read in some reviews that were negative, do not understand why? The resort is better than I read on reviews as being very dated and needing an uplift. It has its charm as an old Colonial property and has such wonderful features about it. The staircases are amazing, the history to read about it is incredible too. I would actually say, price wise, its on par with other resorts for food and drink. The resort is all about relax, unwind and do nothing. Grab a book and a glass of Gin and toast to the indian ocean and its colours of Azure Blue. Walk along the beach and see the odd coconut wash up in the shore line Stroll bare food in sands that is softer than your duvet cover Relax and see the resorts Jurassic park rock formation Take a short trip to see and learn about the local tortoies from the experts that look after them in the sanctuary rescue centre. By the way, did she say yes?? Of course :O) Would we return - Definetly Did we enjoy the service - 100% Would you recommend this resort to everyone else - Already doing that now Once again to all the team at Banyan Tree Mahe Seychelles Resort, Tnak you from our hearts. Also for the bed decorations and the weddding pictures that the management took and also put on a speed stick for us that was something special. Lots of love Paul And Giedre Addison If anyone wants to know anything them please PM us about the whole trip. Follow us on Instagram couple_on_vacation for more pictures. There are soo many pictures I wanted to upload but could only do 50 on here lol. Did you see us during all of our trip...we wore those matchyu T -shirts with Wedding & Honeymoon written on them, let us know. Read less

The hotel was amazing and our villa had a great view of the coast and beach. The chef did a great job in making vegetarian meals for us almost every night! The staff are all friendly and make you feel welcome. Added bonus is that you can see giant tortoise at the hotel.

The hotel was extremely well attended and the staff looked after us very well. The accommodation was in very good order and we were well looked after both in terms of use of the buggies and trips up and down to the room from the reception.
