My partner and I were very excited about our 12 night holiday at The Banyan Tree. We chose the hotel because of its location on the best beach in Mahe, the rooms looked luxe and private, and while the price was expensive, not as crazy as The Four Seasons/Raffles etc. Overall we had a great time. Highlights were: - Our Intendance Bay villa was beautifully situated and very private, with a lovely pool and jacuzzi. We spent most of our time just relaxing on the terrace, which has comfy loungers, sofa and table/chairs. - Food was mostly of a very good standard. I was a bit concerned due to other reviews on TA but there was plenty of variety, with a different theme each night, and the quality (especially in Saffron) was overall high. Wine was quite expensive, as expected, but it was possible to get a reasonable bottle for about 60 euros. - Spa was amazing, we enjoyed a couples massage in a spectacular setting - the ladies were very professional. Also took advantage of the free yoga classes. - Needless to say, the beach is incredible. We visited a few beaches on Mahe and Intendance was our favourite. Often too rough to swim, but stunning nevertheless. - Service was overall ok. The staff try hard to please and are very friendly but we had a few issues. Little gifts were left every evening which is a nice touch, and we always had plenty of free water and fresh towels in the room. - A lovely giant tortoise sanctuary - well worth a visit. Negative points: - We feel that this is currently a 4 star hotel. I’m sure that when the hotel opened 17 years ago it was the best on Mahe, and it could be amazing again, but at the moment it is run down in many places and is in urgent need of modernisation and refurbishment. We heard that the hotel has been bought by an Arab company, who plan to completely refurbish, so it would be interesting to return in a couple of years. - Service quality is not 5 star. Staff are friendly but mostly lack the polish and professionalism of a true 5 star hotel. We had several issues with slow room service, housekeeping not turning up, confusion with mini bar charges, one waiter being rude. - We had a couple of cockroaches in the room, and some ants/flies. This is to be expected in a tropical climate, but if the room was better insulated this could have been avoided. There were gaps in the front door and window, which had to be fixed when lots of rain water leaked through. I hope others find this review helpful. Please contact me if you’d like more information. We would definitely return to the Seychelles, but it seems as though you have to spend A LOT of cash to get a true 5 star resort experience! Overall we paid approx 10,000 euro for our stay (not including flights), including half board, which we think is a bit too much for the hotel in its current condition. Read less

It's a perfect and wonderful resort except that the room is far from the beach and the waves are so high that we couldn't enjoy the beach. During my stay, I enjoyed the comfortable and kind service. But wherever you go, it's a little inconvenient to call Burgie.

We have just returned from a wonderful 10-day stay at the Banyan Tree. The Exceptional: Staff - The welcome and buggy staff. Benny on reception was lovely and all the staff we encountered went out of their way to enhance our stay! The beach - undoubtedly the best on the island. Note - ocean is not suitable for swimming at this time of the year. People were doing but waves and currents not good and the flag present. The Spa - special praise to Vila, the deputy manager (M) and for the Royal Banyan signature treatment. Worth every penny! The views and pool in the villa (406) - I had specifically asked for the highest villa with the best view and banyan tree delivered. Fell in love from the moment we arrived! Saffron - delicious food and wonderful ambience. The daily surprises and treats - First-class. The manager cocktails were the best I have ever been to. How issues were dealt with e.g a power cut, we were unaffected by, resulted in free wine! Win! The good: Breakfast - wide choice and kept us happy for 10 days. Everything you could want is available. Only not exceptional as little things like filling up orange juice and clearing plates is slower than comparable resorts in my opinion The nature reserve. Definitely worth going to see the tortoises! Very knowledgable and friendly staff. The pool - pictures don’t do it justice. Excellent facility with plenty of space and excellent staff. Varangue Bar/ Steak House Commitment to sustainability including bamboo straws! Room service - although all the cling film is excessive! The average: Room - perfectly clean and spacious with nice touches but if you’ve stayed in 5 stars across the world, particularly in America/Europe you will feel like it could do with some TLC. It’s difficult to comment as open to the elements and weather but I do agree with earlier posters that it is in need of a refurbishment to be at its best! Prices - it is pricey. No more than comparable hotels but definitely save your pennies. You will see ants, termites, cockroaches, lizards. It’s a tropical environment but some people would not like their presence! Needs work: Chez Lamar - okay meal but always empty and would not visit again. Intuition - cleaning was good (although sheets could have done with changing) but little things like not replacing sanitary bags when they were being used, then re-filling 3 days later was just odd! Like toilet paper, they need replacing when used! Overall a wonderful stay that has been one of my favourite holidays even with the small areas of improvement. Attentive staff, beautiful location and the villa pool was one of my favourite things ever! We hope to return in the future. Read less

Banyan Tree Seychelles has the most impressive location and also has other facilities to equal the best available. The beachside properties have everything and the group we stayed there with, were overwhelmed with the staff and restaurants. The favourite was Saffron. A wonderful 4 days.
