The hotel

Combining modern architecture with the feel of a mountain lodge, the Tivoli is a firm favourite with skiers. Warm in atmosphere with great service from attentive staff, it also enjoys unobstructed views of the Vail’s Golden Peak ski area. Guest rooms are spacious and impeccably-appointed with the finest linens and large soaking tubs – much appreciated after a busy day on the mountain! There are also two hot tubs to stake your place in, both with mountain views, the perfect way to relax and unwind. Breakfast is a delight at the Tivoli, complete with an omelette station and house specialities such as French toast and buttermilk biscuits. Come sundown, there’s the Brown Hound Lounge with overstuffed chairs, leather sofas and towering views of the mountain. A wonderful place for a spot of après-ski, try a signature Indini cocktail, inspired by former mascot Indy, the chocolate Labrador for whom the name is lounged – yep, you guessed it, it has a chocolate theme!

It feels like you are basically in the heart of the village, just a short walk to all the shops/restaurants which we took advantage of nightly. Also just a short walk to the gondola which was great for me, and an equal distance walk to gopher hill which was great for my wife who is a novice skier. The very best part of this hotel though, besides the staff, is the fact that the rooms are encased in concrete, and the hotel doesn’t allow any ski equipment in the rooms (they have an onsite ski valet). This means there is no noise in the morning to wake you up. No people walking around in boots, lugging equipment in the hallway. The rooms are very silent, which I thought was great so I could sleep in. We will definitely be back, and really wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in Vail. Read less

Although we have ski'd in North America before we have never tried the USA. We looked at various places and after settling on Vail we liked the look of Tivoli Lodge. We were not disappointed. It is in a great position - only a few minutes walk from Gondola 1 and the town centre. It is very comfortable and all the staff welcoming and friendly - particularly Greg and Joe at the bar and Marshall the ski valet is a top fella! We were initially curious about the hot-tub and its location - it seemed odd to have to walk through the bar in your robe to get to it, but it soon became the norm and no-one bats an eyelid. The photos on this site show 2 hot tubs, however this has obviously been updated to a single larger "tub" - more like a small pool and sunk rather than raised. It is a great place to unwind and loosen the muscles after a day on the slopes and swap "war" stories of your day. Tivoli also supply complimentary coffee / chocolate and cookies (which are delicious) in the afternoon for a tasty post-ski welcome back. Our room was the smaller double option without a fireplace but a mountain view and was more than adequate for the 2 of us with a very comfortable bed. The shower was over the bath (I would have preferred a walk-in but now I'm being picky) and had plenty of power. Nothing worse than wandering around under a dribble trying to get clean! The room was made up every day and like everywhere else in the hotel kept spotlessly clean. Vail itself (whilst expensive) is a great place to be. Plenty of bars and restaurants from basic fayre to fine dining available. Everyone we encountered, both staff and other visitors were very friendly. In fact the only people we encountered that were less than friendly were another couple of Brits. There are a lot of boutique-y shops to wander around and most of the roads and pavements (sidewalks) are heated so free of snow and ice - nice touch. The ski-ing (which lets face it is why you go) is tremendous. Loads of runs to choose from and not just for the more expert among us. Loads of lovely wide and often groomed pistes. If you are not used to ski-ing in the bowls at the back of the mountain it can be a bit disconcerting as there are less defined "runs" by definition. A poorly sign posted Blue run can be missed and leave a less expert ski-er struggling down a Black run, or worse, in the trees! Trust me on this one ;-) Keep your eyes peeled and if in doubt ask or opt for the safer route. The lifts and gondolas are well marshalled and everyone queues politely and alternates as directed and the lines move swiftly. A very pleasent change to the usual experince in Europe where it appears to be a free-for-all and a proper bunfight competing with French elbows and poles! In summary I would say if you are going ski-ing in Vail, then the Tivoli should feature high on your list of places to stay. Thanks to the owners and all the staff who made for a very pleasent stay. The location is hard to beat: a short walk to the gondola, the Golden Peak express chair, and the village. Rooms were comfortable, quiet, and well-furnished with comfortable beds (if I were required to identify a flaw, I'd say there are too many wall switches!). The hotel is perfectly situated in Vail village. The hotel has a warm and cozy feel to it and the staff is absolutely amazing. The rooms are fantastic and very quiet. The gentlemen at the front desk told me the rooms are actually encased in several inches of concrete which makes them extremely quiet. I loved it.

We had a great stay here in Feb 2018. The customer service from everyone was impeccable. So close to both the Vail Village and Golden Peak ski lifts. What a pleasure. Shout out to the ski valet, who was top notch.
