Tivoli Lodge

Vail, Colorado

The hotel

Combining modern architecture with the feel of a mountain lodge, the Tivoli is a firm favourite with skiers. Warm in atmosphere with great service from attentive staff, it also enjoys unobstructed views of the Vail’s Golden Peak ski area. Guest rooms are spacious and impeccably-appointed with the finest linens and large soaking tubs – much appreciated after a busy day on the mountain! There are also two hot tubs to stake your place in, both with mountain views, the perfect way to relax and unwind. Breakfast is a delight at the Tivoli, complete with an omelette station and house specialities such as French toast and buttermilk biscuits. Come sundown, there’s the Brown Hound Lounge with overstuffed chairs, leather sofas and towering views of the mountain. A wonderful place for a spot of après-ski, try a signature Indini cocktail, inspired by former mascot Indy, the chocolate Labrador for whom the name is lounged – yep, you guessed it, it has a chocolate theme!

I first visited Tivoli in 1993, and while I didn’t return till 2010, we’ve even back every year since. From the proximity to Gondola One, the quiet atmosphere, and most importantly the friendly staff, we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else.

My wife and I were looking for a slopeside location for three days of skiing at Vail before attending a conference in a nearby city. We had an outstanding experience at the Tivoli. The room was quiet, the bed was soft and comfortable, the common area was a great place to hang out by the fire and eat free afternoon cookies, coffee, tea, and cider. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with a variety of dishes that changed each day, and always omelettes made to order. The ski valet was convenient, although sometimes the room was not staffed and you had to retrieve or rack your skis/boots. The staff at the front desk was always helpful in providing directions, advice on restaurants, and useful information about Vail. Read less

The staff has always been great from the experience of checking in, breakfast, or a few drinks with Jim-The Bartender in the evening to cap of the day. Highly recommend The Tivoli Lodge as we always have had a great time. Read less

I was underwhelmed by the breakfast served and the food options in general. There was a vending machine with junk food on the main floor, no snacks or minibar in the room. No lunch or dinner service. The hotel put out coffee and packaged cookies in the afternoon which was appreciated but there weren't many refills to this service. We kept our ski gear at a gear rental shop by the lift. Apart from not being right at the hill, the ski valet room was self-service. A $45 per day charge applies to give the option to go to a local health club about a 5 minute walk away. The health club was nice, complete with steam room/sauna/hot tubs and full gym and climbing wall. But bring flip flops if you want to use the steam/room/sauna/hot tub - spa footwear was not provided and it was awkward walking around barefoot. Vail village is quite large and it was at times convenient to get around via the free bus service (there are stops to go in either direction ~30 seconds away from this hotel). Otherwise, it was pleasant to walk from one end of the village to another. I would say that this end of the village is quieter than Lionshead. Overall I feel the hotel was OK, location was very good, but that the value could have been better. Read less

My husband and I recently spent a long weekend at the Tivoli in Vail and could not have been more happy with our experience. The Lodge staff are extremely friendly and remembered us when we would come back in from dinner or a day of skiing. The owner lives on the property and can often be seen around the lobby with his Chocolate Lab, Speedy. Free dog snuggles abound :) The hotel is in a fabulous location. Walk out the door and you're a 3-minute walk to Vail Village to one side and a 3-minute walk to Golden Peak on the other. That means 3-minute access to ski school, the ski lifts, dining, shopping, etc. The hotel will valet your car overnight for a daily fee, meaning you don't have worry about parking. And if you take the shuttle out, then no need to pay for parking. Amenities. The hotel does not have a full restaurant, but they offer a fixed price breakfast buffet in the mornings, free coffee and tea until 10a, free coffee, tea and cookies in the afternoon, and there is a full bar in the evening. Given all the great restaurant choices in Vail Village, we were not at all bothered by the lack of full service restaurant. The Lodge also has a small hot tub for post-ski soaks, a small fitness center and a ski locker towards the back door with easy access to the slopes. The front desk is more than happy to supply towels, and all rooms come with robes for heading down to the hot tub. If I had to make one small complaint it would be that the pillows on the beds were a little too soft for me--but again, that's entirely personal preference, and I'm picky. I would probably bring my own pillow next time. Otherwise, would definitely stay here if we came back and would definitely recommend to friends. Read less
