Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Phoenix, Arizona

The hotel

If ever a hotel was deliciously OTT, this is it. Its 39 acres host enough pools to swim in a different one every day of the week (and still have one spare); 2 championship golf courses; and dining experiences including a Sunday Brunch that will satisfy your hunger for a week, and High Teas with dainty cakes and finger sandwiches. The setting’s pretty lavish too – near Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Biltmore Fashion Park Mall. A Frank Lloyd Wright design masterpiece, with a 1930s pool rumoured to have been Marilyn Monroe’s favourite, Arizona Biltmore’s past is so fascinating they even host history tours. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past: modern musts here include complimentary WiFi, a fitness centre, a 92-foot waterslide, and five dining venues serving contemporary takes of classic dishes.

This year the price has gone up yet the grounds complete with lush lawns, flowers, and fruit trees are gone and surrounded by a chain link fence. As a result the cottages which used to be so perfect have no land to enjoy while you are staying there. The staff called what there doing to the hotel an enhancement. Really! We had booked one of the cottages and after a terrible lunch there....fish tacos which used to be excellent filled with past its prime fish. After the lunch and viewing our charmless cottage we told them we were more than disappointed and were refunded our money and we booked another hotel. We will never return. The hotel has been ruined. Quite sad. It appears in place of the lovely grounds they are building more hotel rooms. Sigh 😔 Read less

No where did they tell me to expect the grounds to be under construction. I mean the grounds and not the rooms ! Gone is the beautiful vista behind the hotel. Instead what you see is a chain link fence. The view from my window this morning is the attached picture. Construction equipment, dirt and two portable toilets. All for $500 a night. I’m sure it will be nice when they finish but they owe it to their customers to be upfront with the condition of the property. Based on what I’ve seen, I would wait until 2021 or 2022 to book a stay. This is some kind of major project all over the property. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Gorgeous architecture in the historic wing

I'm an architecture buff, so seeing this historic hotel was a lifelong dream. The lobby and dining rooms are gorgeous. I recommend staying the historic rooms which have all the delightful touches of the 1930s. Property was nice, although primarily focused on golf (which I don't play) and pools. Food in the restaurants was good.

Pools etc are undergoing construction but they are still charging resort fees. No free breakfast for diamond just a credit towards a breakfast. No lounge access for diamond. It's ok rooms. Parking 18 or so after taxes per day is far. Save yourself the hassle and stay at a regular hotel till they finish the construction.
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Room 1146 guest beware

Jan 15, 2020 Katbur01 Yreka, CA

Room 1146 is a very loud room there are three walk ways that surround it and there is a steel man hole cover that bangs every time someone goes by. This hotel uses bikes for their staff and they roll over it about every 5 minutes. Do not stay in this room it’s miserable.
