Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Phoenix, Arizona

The hotel

If ever a hotel was deliciously OTT, this is it. Its 39 acres host enough pools to swim in a different one every day of the week (and still have one spare); 2 championship golf courses; and dining experiences including a Sunday Brunch that will satisfy your hunger for a week, and High Teas with dainty cakes and finger sandwiches. The setting’s pretty lavish too – near Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Biltmore Fashion Park Mall. A Frank Lloyd Wright design masterpiece, with a 1930s pool rumoured to have been Marilyn Monroe’s favourite, Arizona Biltmore’s past is so fascinating they even host history tours. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past: modern musts here include complimentary WiFi, a fitness centre, a 92-foot waterslide, and five dining venues serving contemporary takes of classic dishes.

The ocotillo lounge food and service was subpar. Did not even meet the standard fare at a regular Marriott or even a double tree. Facility is undergoing renovations. Did not provide any of the perks of being an HH member even on a Sunday stay. Stuck us in a room on the ground floor with a patio separated from the road by shrubbery.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at the Arizona Biltmore. The resort and the staff are top notch. Outstanding service and attention to detail. The history and architecture of the resort alone are enough to bring you back. There are not enough superlatives to describe our time at the Biltmore. My wife and I are sure to return.

Aside from kind hotel staff, what a bummer of a trip! We spent so much money to stay for five nights at a hotel that didn’t let us know there was construction at the time of booking. Also, the rooms you see online are NOT what you get! You don’t get a beautifully updated room. We started in a golf villa that was completely outdated, and smelled like mildew. We asked to change, and actually had to PAY $150 a night for an upgrade to a suite in the Ocatilla section of the hotel that wasn’t even really a suite, it was just a bigger room with a sofa bed. Such a disappointing experience. I’m sure once the updates are complete, and the jackhammering isn’t an issue and the spa isn’t being run out of the only hotel rooms that do seem to be updated, this will once again be a property people review highly. In the meantime, DONT stay here! Read less

Bedding lacks, dining menus very limited. I expected more from a luxury hotel. Whatever the put under their sheets, seems like plastic for bed wetters, makes the bed extremely uncomfortable. Management should run their hand over the bottom sheet and they will quickly see why I'm addressing it. The 5 menu choices lacks variety, means dining out… Read more
