Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Phoenix, Arizona

The hotel

If ever a hotel was deliciously OTT, this is it. Its 39 acres host enough pools to swim in a different one every day of the week (and still have one spare); 2 championship golf courses; and dining experiences including a Sunday Brunch that will satisfy your hunger for a week, and High Teas with dainty cakes and finger sandwiches. The setting’s pretty lavish too – near Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Biltmore Fashion Park Mall. A Frank Lloyd Wright design masterpiece, with a 1930s pool rumoured to have been Marilyn Monroe’s favourite, Arizona Biltmore’s past is so fascinating they even host history tours. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past: modern musts here include complimentary WiFi, a fitness centre, a 92-foot waterslide, and five dining venues serving contemporary takes of classic dishes.

We spent a long weekend at the Biltmore for our anniversary. The hotel welcomed us with a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room for our anniversary. After nearly a week of rafting and hiking in Arizona, we need someplace to just relax and chill out for a couple of days before we headed home. Due to the offseason rates, the Biltmore was recommended to us and fit our needs perfectly. There were so many interesting aspects of our stay, it's probably easiest to just break my review into the positives...and the things that were slightly less that perfect: The positives: - The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful. It is an architectural gem that has stood the test of time. - The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Every single person we interacted with was a pleasure to deal with and made our comfort and happiness their priority. This includes the very impressive virtual concierge. I had an ongoing text message conversation going on throughout our entire stay, and they were incredibly responsive each time I had a question or concern. - Our room, which was located in the Cottages section, was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom area was huge, but it would have been helpful if the toilet room had it's own door. With 4 people in our room, the whole space became monopolized and wasted if someone was using the toilet. - The Paradise Pool lives up to it's name. It's a wonderful space and we spent an entire day there enjoying all it had to offer. We also loved the "dive-in" movie - awesome idea! My few small negatives: - We had planned to attend an exercise class at one of the pools in the morning and had asked some questions about it at the front desk the evening before. When we arrived at the class, we were very disappointed to be told that he class had been cancelled. While I acknowledge that we didn't sign up ahead of time, it was a little frustrating to be told this after getting up "early" while vacationing. - There are many good food choices throughout the resort, but the hours are fairly limited and the prices are very high. The upside is that you can get room service delivered anywhere on the property, which we did take advantage of. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend it...and look forward to visiting again! Read less

Arizona Biltmore, a Waldorf Astoria Astoria Resort lives up to its name and certainly delivers great customer service in many ways. I was fortunate to visit for the first time Phoenix, AZ and stay for four nights during my birthday weekend in this property. Upon arriving to Paradise Valley, you can see the amazing homes that surround this property. Once you arrive, the check in process is quite fast and service is worth it. Our room was in the Cotilla pavilion, where a lounge is located in the first floor. It offers continental breakfast and snacks throughout the day. During the evening, simple appetizers, wine, beer, and dessert options are available. It is certainly worth it, if you want to get a drink and have access to water as well. Finally, this pavillion has its own private pool and it is certainly one of the most quiet pools from the eight pools that are on property. I would say that besides the beauty of the property, its employees make a difference across the board. Susan and Chris in the Cotilla lounge were always pleasant and helpful through our stay. Brianna in the Lobby lounge for afternoon tea was more than professional and amazing in our high tea experience. Becky at Frank and Albert's was a sweetheart and provided excellent customer service. Finally, John at Wright's treated us well and provided a great service during brunch. One person that really put a lot of effort to make sure our stay was unforgettable is Ruby from the housekeeping team. She was always making sure our room was clean and we had everything that we needed on a daily basis. I definitely appreciate her professional demeanor and give her recognition for her efforts, including the rest of the individuals that I mentioned in this review. I highly recommend the different restaurants on property that I mentioned, including the main pool bar, where you can enjoy a drink while swimming. I hope to return in a much colder season, since it was over 118 degrees during the summer season or more specifically in August, but we survived. Read less
