Boston Park Plaza

Boston, USA

The hotel

As synonymous with Boston as the eponymous tea party and cream pie, Boston Park Plaza has been a landmark on the city’s hotel circuit since it opened 90 years ago. Reinterpreted for the 21st century traveller with a $100 million mega-makeover, it now adds contemporary décor and mod-cons to its timeless elegance. And you’re in good company, with all bar two US Presidents staying here since it opened. It’s easy to see why, with a top-drawer location near Boston Common. Of course, they wouldn’t all have experienced today’s attractions, which include a mammoth 20,000 SF Health Club, the nightly cocktail hour (well 5 hours) in the Library, and the New England inspired dining of its Off the Common restaurant, with Boston’s signature lobster rolls a menu favourite.

I went on a group trip to Boston to watch the Phillies play the Red Sox. This was the hotel included in the package so I didn't expect much. It was beautiful! The staff was wonderful, the lobby sparkled, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Of the 100 people on the trip, I only heard great comments about the Park Plaza.

As part of our family road trip we have stayed at the Boston Plaza twice. Our 1st experience was from 19th July to 22nd July 2019 and was a generally a good experience. Check in was fast and efficient and our room 9021 had been recently refurbished, it was clean, cleaning staff were good and the room was comfortable, the only slight downside was the 1 hour it took for security to unlock the safe which the previous individual had left locked. The numerous lifts were excellent but the hotel bar was slightly expensive. After an enjoyable 1st visit we booked the Plaza again before we were due to fly back to the UK for 2 nights 2nd August to 4th August 2019. What a difference for the 2nd experience, we arrived at about 8.30pm after a 11 hour drive from Washington DC via picturesque Pennsylvania to avoid city traffic. At check in I enquired about extending check out to 6.00pm to better suit our 10.00pm flight. This was met with a request for 200 dollars plus state tax and room tax which by booking at the hotel was actually more expensive than using Trivago. Not wanting to spoil our 16 day road trip I agreed and we proceeded to our room 10048. On arriving at the Superior Queen room we found litter on the floor, the bathroom was tiny, you could actually touch the wall between door and toilet, the paint was peeling from the ceiling above the bath and the lever for the bath / shower came off in your hand. As we were only going to be in the room for a minimal period of time I decided at this stage not to complain at reception. The next day were were out by 8.30 in order to get the Ferry to Salem which turned out to be an over hyped destination full of cheap gift shops, I wished I had gone on the whale watching tour instead. Returning to room at about 6.30pm I decided to catch up on some sleep only to be woken about 20 minutes later by dogs barking. Upon opening the door I found a multitude of rooms on our corridor had dog signs on the door with numerous dogs barking for all their worth. Why would a hotel place a family in this location? At check out I obviously complained and was offered a mediocre 80 dollars refund which in comparison to the near 700 dollars I had spend for 2 days and 6 hours was insulting. Read less

Stayed at the Boston Park Plaza hotel for a 3 day trip to Boston. The location was great for what we were looking for, 10 min drive to Fenway and walking to the Boston common where the beginning of the freedom trail is. The receptionists, cleaning service, and doormen, especially Mamadou, were all fantastic in the way they treated us and couldn't be more friendly/accomodating. The room itself was sufficient, few things were out of sort like the towel rack was loose on the wall. Another thing which unpleasantly caught us off guard was the ammenities fee ($20) which was charged to our account for each night we stayed along with taxes and fees. Overall it was a pleasant experience with staff accommodations and location being the highlights. Read less
