The hotel

As synonymous with Boston as the eponymous tea party and cream pie, Boston Park Plaza has been a landmark on the city’s hotel circuit since it opened 90 years ago. Reinterpreted for the 21st century traveller with a $100 million mega-makeover, it now adds contemporary décor and mod-cons to its timeless elegance. And you’re in good company, with all bar two US Presidents staying here since it opened. It’s easy to see why, with a top-drawer location near Boston Common. Of course, they wouldn’t all have experienced today’s attractions, which include a mammoth 20,000 SF Health Club, the nightly cocktail hour (well 5 hours) in the Library, and the New England inspired dining of its Off the Common restaurant, with Boston’s signature lobster rolls a menu favourite.

Boston hotels have gotten to be insanely expensive, so I was thrilled to find an affordable night at Boston Park Plaza. While I can’t say it was bad, I also can’t say there was anything special about my stay - the lobby was very nice but the room was lacking in comparison - without character, stiff sheets, and one of the mirrors was a little… Read more

While I can’t say it was bad, I also can’t say there was anything special about my stay - the lobby was very nice but the room was lacking in comparison - without character, stiff sheets, and one of the mirrors was a little streaky. Having stayed at other hotels in the area at similar price points, I just didn’t feel it was quite on the mark… Not terrible, but nothing special either. Read less

I checked in at the beautiful Boston Park Plaza. The lobby is wonderful! The front desk person, Alex D was great, very helpful. Beyond that, he asked what I was doing this evening. That led to his recommending three very good restaurants and their particular specialties, which he wrote out for me. He then directed me to Nando’s in Little Italy as the best Italian/Sicilian food that he has ever had and he knows good Italian food. I said that sounded good and offered to make a call for me for a reservation. I walked to the restaurant to enjoy the area. The food was as good as Alex said that it was. The owner/chef welcomed me. Anthony was superb in his service. Totally delightful. Upon my return, I saw Alex again and confirmed that his recommendation was spot on. He smiled in response and said that he was happy to hear that and gave me a hearty handshake. I love that kind of service and personal attention! Thank you Alex! Read less

Johnny Boston was awesome. Excellent driver and guide. He was informed, entertaining, and spontaneous. We were fortunate to catch his tour twice, although he obviously had his usual spiel, he also displayed a very quick wit as he invited questions from passengers. We recommend people request Johnny Boston while touring Boston.

I had one night at the Plaza before catching an early flight the next day. The staff was pleasant and the room was clean. It's an old building in Boston and I had a standard room, so I knew it to be small, but I didn't expect the bed to be right next to the door. I could hear everything in the hallway and it made getting to sleep difficult because my room was also near the elevator bank. The bathroom was also in need of some updating. There were chips in the lining of the bottom of the tub and the toilet lid hides the handle to flush the toilet. The handle to flush the toilet also got stuck in the down position multiple times. It didnt cause any issue other than the fact that I had to nudge it back up after flushing. Again - it was clean, staff was pleasant, but I wouldn't want to pay more than $200/night for what I got. Stayed here in early May with family and shared a single room with two double beds. The front desk noted that it would be an additional $100 per night to get a room with two queen size beds, although at that point in time, they were running a promotion where it would be $50 per night. We booked the hotel through RCI and stayed for 3 nights. The beds were comfortable enough, but the walls were very thin. It was hard to fall asleep at night as peoples voices (and yelling) carried. You need a key card to go up the elevators. There’s a key drop box in the lobby. The restaurant and bar at night seemed popping. The gym is the Lynx fitness club and hotel guests can use it (located in the basement). Standard toiletries/amenities provided in the rooms. Service-wise, no one picked up the phone after we tried calling multiple times, as there was an issue with our TV. At check-in, the employee was fine, if a bit impersonal. No one at concierge offered to help with our bags. There’s valet parking available or a cheaper garage with no in-and-out privileges a couple block from the hotel. Overall, the location was convenient for touristy stuff, but I would plan on bringing ear plugs in order for you to be able to rest at night. Read less
