Boston Park Plaza

Boston, USA

The hotel

As synonymous with Boston as the eponymous tea party and cream pie, Boston Park Plaza has been a landmark on the city’s hotel circuit since it opened 90 years ago. Reinterpreted for the 21st century traveller with a $100 million mega-makeover, it now adds contemporary décor and mod-cons to its timeless elegance. And you’re in good company, with all bar two US Presidents staying here since it opened. It’s easy to see why, with a top-drawer location near Boston Common. Of course, they wouldn’t all have experienced today’s attractions, which include a mammoth 20,000 SF Health Club, the nightly cocktail hour (well 5 hours) in the Library, and the New England inspired dining of its Off the Common restaurant, with Boston’s signature lobster rolls a menu favourite.

Let’s start with the bed. The crunchy paper-like sheet and pillows are extremely uncomfortable. I wasn’t able to sleep well at all. Right when we opened the door we almost fell right into the bed, yes it is that close to the door. Ladies, the bathroom was made for a child and if you need to take a selfie you’ll have a toilet right in the background because the only full length mirror is on the bathroom door. Only one person can fit in the bathroom at one time, it’s TEENY TINY! We got home from dinner and realized we had no fridge (we had $100 left over steak). This is the best part, we called the front desk only for them to knock and run and leave a fridge outside the door. Point is... there should’ve been a fridge in our room. I’m baffled as to why they had this room available when the fridge was missing. After the knock and run I thought this can’t be real. I’ve NEVER had service or a room this terrible in my life. Next time we’ll definitely stay at the Marriott. I wouldn’t recommend my enemy stay here. Only positive is the location is great, with that said, the Marriott is right around the corner. Read less

I organized my surprise engagement at the Boston Park Plaza, as it is where my now fiancée and I first met, and it could not have been as perfect as it was without the unquestioning help of the staff. We also stayed in the hotel for the following two nights and everyone, from front desk to cleaning staff (shoutout to Persia) was perfectly hospitable and kind. Chris Shimkus, Director of Catering and Events, was incredibly accommodating with setting up the venue to look exactly as it did the day my fiancée and I met 7 years prior and had no problem providing me with the props to build a corridor of pictures in the middle of the hall. It was clear the success of the event was a priority for him and helped me go through all the needed prep (starting 6 months before). A real champ and embodiment of the idea of "guests come first"! At the front- desk, Yesly Villafranca and Paige Dougherty were always open to listen and to appease any of my nervous asks and made sure our room was perfectly set up for the occasion. Paige really went above and beyond, agreeing to be part of the ruse to surprise my fiancée and hit it out of the park. She really made the whole thing realistic and special, aside from the caring treatment she demonstrated throughout the entire weekend. The whole team seemed invested in the success of the surprise and we both appreciate them so much. While it was already a special place for us, the Boston Park Plaza is now also somewhat part of our family, and we will certainly return to it with glee. Read less

Rooms were clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Great location, close to the commons, public garden and Copley which are all nicely lit for the holidays. Newbury street and great restaurants right around the corner. Shout out to Jacky and Jessica for their warmth and supreme customer service on both checkin and check out. They made us feel so welcome and attentive to our needs. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend! Read less

I am deeply disappointed! I would love to check out on the second day if it would be under my control. But it was a business trip. My company has chosen and paid for the hotel. I don’t care about the room. I don’t care about the bed or television. I don’t care about the bathroom. But I really care about the guest relationship and human resource! They have no hospitality at all. The staff at the front desk was like dead inside. I have never seen a smile from the staff even once. Not from front desk, not from bar tenders, not from waiters. No one in this hotel is helpful at all. They are looking at you like you are a garbage. I felt very bad myself. I am a customer. Actually they call customers as a “guest” in tourism industry. I am buying a service from the hotel. Even if you don’t like the customer, even if you hate that nation or person, you should give your best. You should be a professional. This is a 5 stars hotel! But why the staff behave such a badly? What’s wrong? Are they depressed because of the corona? I don’t know. They have really bad attitude and have angry faces. I was scared to ask even a question to the front desk. No good morning, no good evening. I don’t know maybe they don’t like their salary! Waiters just throw food on your table in the breakfast. They are not even looking at your face. Also front desk. You ask a question and they still look on computers, keep typing on keyboards! This is just an example. I am absolutely going to report this situation to my company. And I hope they change the hotel for the next time. I hope! Read less

Our stay at the park plaza in Boston was excellent. Due to the COVID restrictions our choices were limited to where we could travel so we decided to get away for a few days in our home state. We’re glad we gave the park plaza a try. The accommodations were excellent and the service was impeccable beginning withYesly . She made us feel important and not just another reservation. Whenever we had a question about area attractions being open or closed due to COVID or the possible riots due to the election we asked yesly and she gave us great advice. She was extremely professional and yet at the same time we felt as though we were talking to a friend. By the time we ended our 3 day get away we had decided to return in December for another get away. We weren’t sure if we were going to stay at the park plaza or try a different hotel to compare but while driving home we decided that we would surely stay at the park plaza because of Yesly. She was the determing factor. Read less
