Boston Park Plaza

Boston, USA

The hotel

As synonymous with Boston as the eponymous tea party and cream pie, Boston Park Plaza has been a landmark on the city’s hotel circuit since it opened 90 years ago. Reinterpreted for the 21st century traveller with a $100 million mega-makeover, it now adds contemporary décor and mod-cons to its timeless elegance. And you’re in good company, with all bar two US Presidents staying here since it opened. It’s easy to see why, with a top-drawer location near Boston Common. Of course, they wouldn’t all have experienced today’s attractions, which include a mammoth 20,000 SF Health Club, the nightly cocktail hour (well 5 hours) in the Library, and the New England inspired dining of its Off the Common restaurant, with Boston’s signature lobster rolls a menu favourite.

Our company chose Park Place Plaza for a work trip. The rooms had everything we needed, the staff was helpful with food and drink recommendations, especially Ayana! And the lobby provided the perfect ambiance for work and conversation.

My fiancé and I recently stayed at The Boston Park Plaza for one night to celebrate our 5 year anniversary as well as capture our engagement photos at the hotel and next door at the restaurant Strega Italiano Back Bay. We are native Bostonians and thought it would be perfect to capture our memories in such a beautiful space! I just wanted to send a HUGE THANK YOU to the Park Plaza staff from Saturday. There was a gentleman by the name of Bishal that was helpful and showed me around the space where we could take photos. We had an amazing dinner @ Strega and wonderful stay at the hotel! Read less

The Boston Park Plaza is a beautiful hotel. Very well decorated, very clean. The staff is very nice and friendly, especially the woman who checked us in. My only complaint was the first night. The people in the room next to us had a party. The music felt like it was in my room and we could hear every word they were shouting over the music. I didn’t think a man could swear that much, but the woman beat him in the curse count. It was at 1:30am. Obviously not the hotels fault that people can be that inconsiderate, maybe I can blame the thickness of the walls, but I don’t think a bunker could have drowned out their noise. My issue was that I called the front desk, no answer, concierge, no answer, called the hotel emergency (felt guilty about that) and was told to call a different number, no answer there. I called the main line from my cell and that was answered, now it was close to 2am. I’ll give them credit, someone came up in a few minutes and the music stopped. They were quiet for about 5-10 minutes but then the drunk yelling began again. Conveniently we had all fallen asleep shortly after. Back to the good, the beds are really comfortable. They have complimentary water bottles at the desk. The location is perfect, right next to the park and a T station. The same woman checked us out and was again super nice, wish I caught her name so the hotel could recognize her. We would definitely stay again. Read less

The Boston Park Plaza is a beautiful hotel with a great, central location. The rooms are modern and clean. We booked a suite which offered additional space. Thank you Alex and Jessica for making our stay extra nice! We will be back soon!

The hotel itself has many positive attributes, including a terrific location, as well as an unmistakable grand-hotel character. The renovations that the property has undertaken have also clearly paid off, not only in the lobby/common areas but also in the rooms themselves. The lobby in particular is quite impressive. The room was exceptionally clean, and while on the smaller side, was very comfortable. You may have seen other reviews mention that the bathrooms are small, and they are indeed small, but this is an older hotel and you know that going in. The hotel did fall short, however, when it came to service. First, when initially booking the room, I spoke at length with the reservationist as to the city view we were requesting. However, the room we were assigned at check-in was on the wrong side of the building. I know that such requests cannot be guaranteed, but the hotel was at only 50% capacity according to staff. In any event, it really wasn't a big deal, and therefore we decided not to request a room change. The real shortfall in service was that two days prior to our arrival, I reached out to the hotel via the email address posted on its website, specifically, BPPGuestRelations@bostonparkplaza.com, to find out whether any special measures are taken for guests celebrating birthdays. In return, I heard absolutely nothing back from them. If I'm staying at a chain motel, I would never send such an email, because it is not that kind of property. Here, however, I would expect at least some sort of response from a hotel of this standing. After all, service is what separates the good from the great, and honestly things here were disappointing.
