The hotel

With this hotel offering two-room suites all round, it's tempting to stay in and relax for longer, but the complimentary hot breakfast buffet and made-to-order omelette station will help get you out and set up for the day! At the Embassy Suites by Hilton Monterey Bay Seaside, you are a couple of blocks from the beach and just two miles north of Downtown Monterey, with lots of attractions and activities along the Bay too, such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium or Steinbeck Museum. Alternatively, head out in the car for 20 minutes or so for a bit of hiking, winery action or spa treats. The hotel’s 2-hour evening reception with complimentary cocktails and snacks is a great way to kick-off your evening. The Silver Tide Bar & Grill is in the atrium too, so why not drop in afterwards for some local California cuisine?

The meals were really good- it’s not easy to provide tasty food for such a large group and accommodate all special meal needs so extra kudos to the cooks and kitchen staff we never saw. I didn’t stay at the hotel but the people who did commented that the hotel rooms were very nice. Read less

AC DOES NOT WORK. STAY AT HOTEL ABREGO INSTEAD. This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. My family of six (four kids ages 10, 8, 5 and 1) booked two nights in a suite in this hotel to visit the aquarium. If you don’t have time to keep reading, I was so mistreated that my husband and I sat in the lobby with our 4 kids to warn potential customers, while booking at a hotel with great customer service. First night, our AC never got below 75 degrees. We notified front desk at 9:00am and they said they sent an engineer up and fixed the problem. We then spent the day at the aquarium and returned at 5:00pm to the temperature at 72 degrees. Within 30 minutes of us returning, the temp went up to 74 while the AC was set to 66. We asked to move rooms and they moved us next door. The ac was set to 75 degrees and went up to 76 within the thirty minutes of us moving rooms. We then decided to leave as it was 7:00 and our toddler was ready for bed. The hotel said since we did not check out at 11am they could not refund or offer a discount. Even though they acknowledged we brought the issue to them at 9:00am. My husband and myself had a terrible customer service experience with Elihu Banuelos, the manager, as well as front desk staff Jessica. Elihu offered to move us to a third room, and I said that would be acceptable if he could guarantee that the temperature would stay below 72 degrees and the AC would work, and if not I could have my money for the second night back. He said he couldn’t guarantee that. Hotel blatantly said that AC is not a known issue, but 4 out of 9 people that I spoke to in the lobby said that their AC was not working in their room. Read less

This was a fantastic hotel for a 4 night getaway to Monterey over the holidays with our kids, ages 9 and 4. The hotel and our room were clean and seemed recently remodeled. The room had plenty of space for all 4 of us to sleep. The buffet breakfast was an amazing way to start the day, as there was so much tasty food and we usually ate enough to tide us over until dinner. The evening happy hour was also great - we enjoyed the food and free Shirley Temples and spent our daily $15 room credit on additional food there (appetizers like tacos and wings are only $7 each at happy hour). We ended up eating almost all our meals at the hotel, and because breakfast, happy hour and a $15 daily credit are included in the room rate, we only ended up paying around $10-20 extra a day to feed our family of 4, which was amazing. The location is good, with a nice beach nearby, a short drive to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and a slightly longer drive to the Asilomar tide pools and Pebble Beach. The staff was great, especially Meixue at breakfast who was incredibly nice to our kids. Finally, I really appreciated that our 4 year old had a nosebleed one night and got blood all over the pillows, sheets and mattress, which I expected we would be charged a lot for, but the hotel handled it without charging us. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, and our 4 year old has been asking when we can go back to Monterey and this hotel. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Read less

After staying here several times, here is my story. If you have a family, work hard, and pay your taxes, I implore you to read my review. Today was the day after Thanksgiving. Usually I book a room here as I have done every year right around this time and the holidays. For some reason, I accidentally booked 2 nights for my family of 4 through an agency instead of the hotel directly. I cancelled that reservation immediately (less than 30 minutes after booking it) so that I could book directly with the hotel instead. The hotel (not the agency) - this is Jackie (manager who never returned my calls), Cheryl, Jasmine, and Jennifer insisted that I be charged 1 night penalty for my mistake - $201 to be exact. I was shocked. This is the fee I am charged by the hotel (not the agency) for cancelling my booking to book the EXACT same dates directly with the hotel? Fine. I asked if I could use that 1 night penalty for the same dates and pay for another night directly with the hotel. They refused. I asked if I can reinstate my reservation (the original one) after just a couple of hours of cancelling it. They refused. And so here I am, an honest loyal customer treated like garbage. Should I be surprised? I mean, I suppose when I look at empathy in society these days, I probably shouldn't - you are not treated like a customer or even human, you're just a nuisance and noise. I'm so sad and so hurt that I was punished in this way. No sorry, no I understand. All I got was "you booked with a third party" and this is our policy, sir. You want to charge me a penalty? Fine. Let me use the night you charged. Nope. Let me book another night with you directly and keep the first night as credit. Nope. Kindness and hospitality go a long way. Losing $200 won't make me rich nor will it make me poor - but feeling wronged in this way is just terrible. If you're a hard working family person. If you pay your taxes. If you have a family and save for the holidays, the free breakfast and the location of this hotel are not worth the shame and punishment they give for a loyal customer. R.B. Read less
