Monterey Tides, a Joie de Vivre Hotel

Monterey, California Coast

The hotel

With a relaxed vibe and those intoxicating bay and ocean views, you’ll get the quintessential Monterey holiday at this waterfront boutique hotel. It has a privately-owned beachfront, ideal for making sandcastles and toasting s’mores by the bonfire. Keep the camera ready too — if you’re lucky you may spot seals, sea lions and breaching whales. The hotel's soulful tapas bar, with more sweeping views, serves up craft cocktails and beers on tap. And the casual waterfront restaurant is a great spot to watch the sun set over the water whilst tucking in to fresh seafood.

This hotel has zero service and nothing like the pictures . The price is very high for what you got ! The rooms are very small and fell very unsafe and not clean ! I’m sure there is a lots of people that feel the same way . I heard lots of people complain about it .. and check in is at 4 pm . I left one day earlier I couldn’t stay any longer.

Had a most memorable stay. The location & the view is amazing. Very friendly & polite staff. Affordable prices. The rooms were very comfortable & very clean-wish the bathrooms could be a little bigger.Looking forward to making another trip again!

I wont go there again, but I think my poor experience may be unique. And others will love the quiet location and a 4 miles stretch of beach right outside your door. The water views from the shore facing rooms are also sensational. Negatives are the costs: Parking is over $30 a day and there is also a $30 daily resort fee. I also had a series of one off snafus: burst pipe under the sink, alarm clock that went off at 6 AM, a heating unit that intermittently blowing cold air and an incorrect, super-expensive dinner order delivered by room service. Beyond a burst pipe, I didn’t hassle the staff because I value my privacy and don’t like people marching in and out of my room. They all seem very kind and a tentative however, and the burst pipe guy came really quickly and had the problem corrected within 15 minutes. And the room was so nice that I prefer to think I just had some bad juju on this visit. I am assuming that others have already mentioned the weird lack of privacy. The railings are also broad and block views of the waves when you are on the bed. The trajectory from elevator to room can also seem endless and quite cold on a windy day. Read less

If I could leave negative stars I would. When we first arrived I was told flat rates of the room per night, I was never told about any additional charges when I specifically asked. The first night there were people partying above us all night with nothing done about it, then I woke up to my entire room smelling like weed that was so strong, still nothing. The second night there were people partying extremely loud at the pool after it was supposed to be closed. Then when we checked out and got our receipt. We were charged almost $300 extra other than the room costs for occupancy tax and resort fees for amenities I did NOT receive. If I would have known about the extra charges from the beginning I would have not been so upset and took my self elsewhere or would have declined the resort fees. Would not recommend staying here unless you plan to spend at a minimum of $600 just to stay in the room just to sleep. Read less
